"While Palin did appear to get a pay cut ordinance passed upon entering, several years later her salary had actually gone up to the point where it ended up thousands of dollars higher than it was just before she took office, local press reports at the time show."-

Before someone comments that of course salaries go up over three years, I thought I would stick this in here. It appears that it's not that her salary increased over three years, but that it had never actually gone down in the first place.
Reply
"So what appears to have happened is this: As a Council member she voted against hiking the mayor's salary from $64,000 to $68,000, but it passed anyway. When she came in as mayor, she passed the ordinance which brought her salary down to $61,200. But that may not actually have taken effect, and Council-mandated raises brought her actual salary up to $68,000.
The McCain campaign was unable to explain whether her salary actually was cut. And the McCain campaign declined to comment on the fact that her salary had actually ended up higher than it was when she first took office, beyond referring us back to the original minutes of the initial meeting where the first ordinance was passed."

" . . . local press reports at the time of show".. Well, that says it all. The press? I suppose we're all suppose to believe everything we read or see in the "press". I suppose that if Palin did receive a pay increase, it was legit or maybe not. Maybe we should ask all the heads of corporations just how they got their multi-million dollars raises . . . then we should go to all the crookes in the White Hous, Congress and Senate to ask them how they got all their millions when they claim they're not being paid enough. Bribes, payoff, kickbacks and dirty money, you name it. They're all corrupt and should be ousted and replaced with honest people . . . if you can find any.

Palin is working the Republican theme "Lie, Steal, and keep lying when you are caught."
McCain is trying to "back-in" to the White House with some help from lies and deceit.
We won't let McCain win. I really don't care about Palin she can go back to the podunk she crawled out of. -

She was just speaking now...introducing McCain....I'm sorry no name calling and family attacks, but this woman is certainly not ready, not ready for the US Senate much less VP. Even Republican Senator Chuck Hagel said she cleary wasn't ready and to say otherwise is outrageous.

Septemeber 15th was when John McCain lost the election...the more we speak of the issues Obama wins, the more we speak of phony issues of patriotism and pastors, he wins...
McCain's telling us how this economic crisis happened...all he needs to do is ask his economic advisor Phil Grahmm, Now he's blamming Obama for the housing crisis...lol!
I hope he talks about how he invented the Blackberry. -

McCain is going to get his ass kicked after making these outrageous distortions...again McCain goes negative when his poll numbers fall...Obama is either responsible for a housing and banking crisis which started 30 years ago, or he hasn't been in the Senate long enough to be President which is it John, why don't you do something, you've been there for 26 years...you have done nothing. 7 of Washington's top lobbyists run your campaign...how are you gonna kick lobbyists out of the white house...you're gonna be hiring these people and appointing them to powerful positions. America isn't stupid.

McCain is just ****** that he has been getting hia ass kicked all week. He has already made so many misstatements in this speach. OBAMA go after Phil" America's is a bunch of whiners" Grahmm. -

How Gramm was responsible for this:
Reply
The 1999 Financial Services Modernization Act. [1]
In 1999, The Financial Services Modernization Act (Gramm-Leach Bliley Act), was adopted by the US Congress. In the wake of lengthy negotiations, all regulatory restraints on Wall Street's powerful banking conglomerates were revoked "with a stroke of the pen".
Under the new rules commercial banks, brokerage firms, institutional investors and insurance companies could freely invest in each others businesses as well as fully integrate their financial operations. The legislation repealed the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933, a pillar of President Roosevelt's "New Deal" which was put in place in response to the climate of corruption, financial manipulation and "insider trading" which resulted in more than 5,000 bank failures in the years following the 1929 Wall Street crash. (See Martin McLaughlin, Clinton Republicans agree to deregulation of US banking system, World Socialist Website, 1 November 1999). -

Hypocrite McCain cannot fix the economy and financial crisis. He was part of the Savings scandal of 1981 when he and Charles Keating bilked thousands of small depositors, seniors and pensioners out of their life savings.

How can this scum bag now fix a financial crisis? He is part of it for the last 8 years. -

"One thing Sarah Palin cites as proof of her reform credentials is a pay cut she says she took when she became Mayor of Wasilla in 1996.
"As mayor I took a voluntary pay cut, which didn't thrill my husband; and then as governor I cut the personal chef position from the budget, and that didn't thrill my hungry kids," Palin said "recently", repeating a frequent refrain."
So when did Palin say this, "recently" just doesn't cut it. That wasn't in her acceptance speech so when did she say it? Just more lies and distortions from the Huffington Puff. Gullible airheaded moonbats all of you.-

I followed the links from the story. Just three clicks away. You could have done that too, had you not been all worked up in a hyper-partisan tizzy.
The article's origins are from bloomberg.com, i.e. Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City. So it's not "lies and distortions from the Huffington Puff," despite your weak protestations and cliched name-calling.
You know, it's really not hard to find when and where Sarah Palin made any kind of a statement, since the McCain campaign (or should I say, "The Palin-McCain Campaign") has been so protective of her. That really undercuts their message that she's "independent" or "tough" like a pit bull. And when they actually do let her speak, it's almost entirely made up of generic platitudes (e.g. "your republican congress person in this state is really great" or "our troops are great!" or "my husband Todd is such a great guy!") and sound bite sloganeering (e.g. "drill baby!" or "country first!" etc.). When she does make the rare comment that can be checked, it's just so darned easy to pluck and dismember! -

"know nothing about this country"???????
We know that roads and bridges are falling apart, soldiers are dying to help foreigners, potentially dangerous foreigners are entering our country illegally on a daily basis, government debt and size are increasing out of control, gas prices are stressing working families (and those who are trying to find work), the dollar is a joke, high gas prices are causing unprecedented bankruptcies (even though Bush passed laws to make it more difficult to do so, to make his record less bad), cities and towns are in financial stress...
Is that enough for you so far.??..We also know you are a person who writes foolishly and is willing to defend the bad guys blindly!

"I think it's a stretch to -- in any way -- say that she's got the experience to be president of the United States," Hagel told the Omaha World-Herald. Palin and good people do not belong in the same sentence. Aside from the political side of the house, how about the fact they she wants to keep us oil dependent, destroy the animals to serve her need to hunt from an airplane, mind you not for food, how about the fact that Global Warming isn't wreaking havoc on the world. Tell that to all the people who are suffering from the increased destruction, increased allergens, increased skin cancer.

This is the kicker:
Reply
"I think they ought to be just honest about it and stop the nonsense about, 'I look out my window and I see Russia and so therefore I know something about Russia,' " he said. "That kind of thing is insulting to the American people."
That's coming from someone who regularly reaches across party lines. He's an actual "maverick."
Here's another true conservative's view point:
http://www.dmagazine.com/ME2/dirmod.asp?nm=Core+Pa...
That's from the former editor of the National Review. Hand-selected by William F. Buckley himself, no less. The best line:
"As a cause, conservatism may be dead. But as a stance, as a way of making judgments in a complex and difficult world, I believe it is very much alive in the instincts and predispositions of a liberal named Barack Obama." -

Apparently Propeller didn't like that I tried to post the same link twice. See my post above regarding a prominent conservative - a real conservative, not the "neo" variety - who believes Obama is a better representation of true conservative values than McCain.
Reply
Another one is Alan Greenspan, who stated that Obama's tax plan is better than McCain's:
http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/09/15/g...
Greenspan is a direct disciple of Ayn Rand, author and founder of the philosophy called Objectivism. Objectivists, for the uninitiated, are the polar opposite of "radical socialists." Read about them on Wikipedia. Their ideas aren't all bad, except that that the whole concept rests on the assumption that industrialists and capitalists are all uncorrupt, honorable people... -
