Two great Republican candidates ...one who doesn't remember the leader of Spain who he had previously met with and who thinks Spain is part of Latin America, and a vice president candidate who thinks because she lives near the Russian border she has foreign policy experience. HELP!

This is an embarrassment to our nation. Even Karl Rove is bewildered by these two Bush supporters who are trying to pretend they are not part of the Republican party.-

McCain is a good person gone bad. As a Republican he felt Bush was unfit to be President. Karl Rove came up with the black baby was his child and we got George for eight years.

John is now being forced to tow the hard right party line, his only hope of winning a losing battle.
Watch McCain, see if he really wants to be president or is it he that he just doesn't like to lose.
John would have made a great Democrat president in his prime. He is still against drilling in the ANWAR, and he does care!! -

I posted another take on this story, I can't believe the McCain campaign tried to cover this obvious gaffe with the BS that he meant it. Rather than admit their candidate had a senior moment, they risk relations with a longtime ally??? Insane!

He is the same dumb idiot that said "Iran shares its borders with Pakistan", "Iran is supporting Sunni fighters in Iraq", "Called a non existent country as Czekoslovakia".

Actually back in February or March McCain spoke very differently about Spain and Zapatero - saying he would be happy to meet with and cooperate with Spain's president Zapatero. (To know this kind of thing you have to read the spanish language media, the BBC is too far removed).

Given that, I suspect the real reason for the difference now is that McCain has sold out to the extreme NeoCon (ZionCon, israel-first) wing of the GOP, which is what Scheuneman represents. For them, the decision of Spain to pull out of Iraq was poisonous, as is Spain's tradition of being much more even-handed about the israel-palestine conflict. These nuts around McCain are even worse than the bushies, e.g. Condi Rice sounds like a saint viz-a-viz Spain as compared to the ZionCon wingnuts. -

I'd guess he wasn't intentionally being cold towards Spain. It seems reasonably clear from the text that he really didn't know what he was talking about - he repeatedly tried to avoid the question to avoid being called on it, but finally, was forced to give some sort of answer, and his lack of knowledge of geography and world leaders came through once again.

Czechoslovakia, Putin ruling Germany, Iran supporting Sunnis, and now Spain being in South America, or maybe McCain's head was just unable to get around the change in topic and figure out where Spain is or who it's Prime Minister is.
It seems clear that he's trying his best, but his mental faculties are just not keeping up with him. I wonder if he's aware and stressing about it when he goes home at night...
It has been sad to watch my grandmother slip into dementia, and I think we may be seeing that very thing play out in a live election campaign with McCain. I kinda feel sorry for the old guy.-

If this weren't such a serious issue, it would be laughable. McCain & Palin's mental acuity and lack of political savvy truly mean BIG trouble for this country if they are elected. Fortunately, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, as the saying goes, so most folks are getting a chance to see the duo's lack of chops PRIOR to election day. If only the same had been true for more people 8 years ago.

Where O where are the Neocons to apologize for this bumbling idiot?

How embarrassing it must be for them to have to back a candidate that they were up in arms over a few months back. The Republican party has once again found the biggest idiot in America, made him the nominee, and given hope to all other mediocre idiots. If America elects this fool, I will denounce my citizenship.
Say what you will about Obama, at least he knows his geography. -

The man who would orchestrate foreign policy. Come on. When is enough going to be enough for some people? He has the sophistication of foreign affairs of an Ostrich. Doesn't know where country's are located, unsure if a country is even an ally! (Spain). Of course he would meet with Spain's PM!!!! Good lord people.

Back in May, Obama said he had been to 57 states with 1 to go. Now, he is not 70 so he's probably not senile, so he must be STUPID! Right? I don't think he is stupid, so he probably just misspoke, as McCain misspoke. If you unserious, liberal numb-nuts had any worth at all to you, you'd shut up about crap like this and focus on real issues. Lighten up Francis!

There is a huge difference between being exhausted from months of campaigning and making a gaffe you refer to like the Obama gaffe saying 58 states, and making gaffe after gaffe after gaffe after gaffe like McCain has done just this week. Some are important, like this one not recognizing Spain as an ally and remembering a PM he'd met prior and even that Spain is not part of "the hemisphere" that he was referring to.
Although some of McCain's gaffes this week could easily be contributed to exhaustion and therefore not honed in on to ridicule, such as his suggestion that the chairman of the FEC resign in disgrace over the collapse on Wall Street this week. What he meant, of course, was SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission), not the FEC (Federal Election Commission). That was just a simple "oops" moment.
Knowing the nuts and bolts of foreign policy and how things work is different...like not realizing that the SEC is not under Presidential control and therefore cannot be fired, as he had said the day before he revised his position to say the SEC chairman should resign.
**Mistakenly saying FEC instead of SEC = meaningless gaffe
**Not realizing the President cannot fire the SEC chairman = a man who doesn't know the scope of the job before him
Do you honestly not recognize the difference between a meaningless gaffe and a serious mistake raising the question of a candidate's competency?
