Now Entering Obama? »
Posted By MyWayOnNow 1 year, 3 months ago in NewsMotorists entering the quaint, woodsy town of Olema near the sea in Marin County may notice a subtle change as they enter: it appears the burg's name has been changed to "Obama."
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama supporter and bed-and-breakfast owner Kelly Emery created a perfect mirror of the green sign people read as they enter the town's limits. Now people unfamiliar with the area may think they are entering the town of Obama, population: 55. [UPDATE: After complaints from locals, who said the sign was confusing, a county official persuaded Kelly Emery to remove the sign. You can learn more about the dispute in the CBS5 video below.]

Is California really a part of the USA anymore? You morons out there should just secede. Let Russia or Mexico take you over and take care of you. This Kelly Emery sounds like a real nitwit. Maybe she can be the socialist-democrat standard bearer in 2012.

While I agree with your session idea, let's just make it the area past Bakersfield. Seriously. This is stuff in the water and air up that that other people in this country just can't believe. If it is a crazy idea, we go down the list "Bezerkely, San Fran, Marin, Sonoma, Redwood City, etc."

I would rather have it like North Carolina and South Carolina.
North California and South California. That is much more palatable for me.
If you want to wonder what the effects of all that LSD in the 60's were, look no further than to Northern California, specifically in those aforementioned cities. -

Typical liberal loser..."Let me change the name of the town on my own and to hell with the legal ramifications or confusing strangers". Liberals have never met a law they wouldn't ignore if they felt it was not in accordance with leftist ideology. Screw her, screw them.

You know all of the above comments are to funny, but you know it's ok if they want to name it "OBAMA" or what ever they want, don't worrie as long as you and loved ones don't live in their town it won't hurt ya, let it be. Look at it this way for now they are all loving what he says "PROMISSES FOR CHANGE" LET A FEW MONTHS OR A COUPLE OF YEARS GO BYE AND THEY'LL SEE HE WASN'T AS GOOD AS HIS "WORDS" WERE.

Your so right he is making promises that there is no way that he can fulfill. The changes he promises require the 2/3 majority of the congress and senate to change. The president doesn't really have the power to change anything on his own.Anyone that remembers government class knows that the powers of the presidency are pass veto let stand on his desk and to offer suggestions. Even the veto is not a power, it can be overturned by a 2/3 majority vote by the senate and congress. But the wisdom of politics is that a Lie Is As Good As The Truth If Someone Will Believe It..

First, it seems there are two sides to the argument about how this phrase should be interpreted in regards to eligibility for the presidency, and the Supreme Court has never addressed it:
One side of the argument interprets the Constitution as meaning that a person either is born in the United States or is a naturalized citizen. Thus, to be a "natural born citizen," a person must be born in the United States; otherwise, they are citizens by law and are naturalized.[4] Current State Department policy reads: "Despite widespread popular belief, U.S. military installations abroad and U.S. diplomatic or consular facilities are not part of the United States within the meaning of the 14th Amendment. A child born on the premises of such a facility is not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States and does not acquire U.S. citizenship by reason of birth."[5] To others, the statute that grants citizenship to American children born overseas exempts them from the term "naturalized" and thus, as with the 1790 law, they are to be considered "natural born citizens" eligible for the Presidency.[6] Examples of persons who become citizens at birth (whether "naturalized" or "natural born") would include: birth to Americans overseas, or birth on U.S. soil, territories, or military bases overseas.[7]
But it turns out John McCain has his own issue with this requirement:
John McCain, who ran in 2000 and is running in 2008, was born at the US military base Coco Solo in the Panama Canal Zone to U.S. parents. The Panama Canal Zone was under United States sovereignty between 1903 and 1979 but was unincorporated.[9]
None of the candidates was elected, so it has never been fully addressed whether children born to Americans overseas are "natural-born citizens" and thus eligible for the Presidency. [8]
Whether Obama was born in the U.S. depends on Hawaii's political status, while McCain was born outside of the U.S. by anyone's interpretation. If McCain is qualified to be president, I guess Obama is, too. -

Obama was born in Hawaii, which became a state two years before he was born. Even if he'd been born outside the US, he'd still be a citizen. If you are born to ONE American parent, you are an American citizen, no matter where you are born.
I wish Republicans had more respect for the truth. -

One great thing about Barack Obama is that because he was a professor of constitutional law, we know that he actually KNOWS the constitution. That will be a HUGE improvement over Bush, who thinks that the constitution is "just a GD piece of paper."

Hawaii became a state in 1959. Obama was born in Hawaii August 4,1961 so that makes him a United States citizen. Before you talk about something or someone you don't know, you should check out their history and know a little about the history of this great nation. Nuff said

You can bet had any town opted to change it's name to McCain (even if only as humor), the rabid right would have argued that it was an expression of free speech, but... par usual... they have to stomp out the constitutional rights of anyone who dares oppose them.

Oh, wait - maybe I misunderstood: "had any town opted to change it's (sic) name to McCain". I don't believe that this town opted to change its name. From the article it appears that one person made this decision on their own and believes that everyone else should be forced to live with the ramifications including confusion on the part of motorists and an implied endorsement that they may disagree with. That appears to be the true definition of liberalism - it is all about me and what I want!!!!
