The Party's Over: What we are witnessing today is how empires end »

Posted By populist 1 year, 3 months ago in Political News

The Last Superpower is unable to defend its borders, protect its currency, win its wars or balance its budget. Medicare and Social Security are headed for the cliff with unfunded liabilities in the tens of trillions of dollars.

What we are witnessing today is nothing less than a Katrina-like failure of government, of our political class, and of democracy itself, casting a cloud over the viability and longevity of the system.

Notice who is managing the crisis. Not our elected leaders. Nancy Pelosi says she had nothing to do with it. Congress is paralyzed and heading home. President Bush is nowhere to be seen.

Much of the same symptoms that caused the collapse of the Roman Empire. Funny how things never really change.

Another artical that will recieve no argument from me. It puts the blame where the blame should be put and that is on all who are wiling to take more from a system than they are willing to get back (greed). The founding fathers of your country and even the citizens knew that for a society to survive everyone had to produce and be responsible, there have been economic collapses in your country in the past (1929) but that was only greed in the stock markets now it is in everything.
If we only go back 40 years or so we could see that the income between the top and bottom income earners was not really that large, I can remember going to school wih the son of a doctor and they realy were not that much further ahead than the common labourer. If the society as a whole does not move ahead together them eventually the crap will hit the fan.
Populist- I am glad that you are posting some of these articals that are taking a realistic look at what is happening and not following the line of so many stories today which are nothing more than name calling events, it seems to me that if we are not willing to look at ourselves and accept part of the blame for the situation then the chances for change will never come.

Pat makes some good points. most Americans are fairly leveraged however when I can't make a car payment because I borrowed too much they take my car away. When the uber-rich borrow too much we bail them out?
