It has become the party of cronyism, debt and diabolical deceit, while securing its power by enthusiastically pandering to its anti-gay base.

I never understood how gays and lesbians could possibly cheer the Republican party. I presume a considerable amount of self-loathing and self-disrespect must be involved in becoming intolerant of one's own existence. The Republican party has no place for gays and lesbians who are out and proud about their lives. The Democratic party is not a panacea, but at least they are more open and accepting of all people. Besen is right; it is time for the Log Cabin folk to fold up their tents and go home.

My feeling was always the the Log Cabin "option" existed to allow politically conservative gays (yes, they DO exist) to find a someplace within the Repub party, as gay Catholics might wish to have an acknowledged place within the Church.

To me, the issue of changing the party from within was something of an "afterthought"--a necessary rationalization tailored to make the LC'ers feel better about themselves and about their party, whose stand on gayness is essentially draconian.
Should the LC-ers pack up? It will be tough on them and entirely torpedo any consciousness-raising effort, both intramurally and from outside looking in.
Having self-proclaimed gay Repubs also tells the world that "we are everywhere." -
