Two Planets Suffer Violent Collision »

Posted By Neophile 1 year, 2 months ago in Science & Technology

Two terrestrial planets orbiting a mature sun-like star some 300 light-years from Earth recently suffered a violent collision, astronomers at UCLA, Tennessee State University and the California Institute of Technology will report in a December issue of the Astrophysical Journal.

Bizzare. Not the planets crashing, but, how they existed as long as they did with two suns. WHICH one(s) were they orbitting?

Perhaps it was like in the old sci-fi book they reference, When Worlds Collide ; -

the 2nd planet came from outside the system, like a dark billiard ball bounced from an even earlier catastrophe.

      Cool Post, Neo!

Space posses it’s laws... cause and effect like anything else. Nothing lasts forever. Collisions are among it’s laws for sure. Galaxies are attracted to one another… sooner or later a galaxy will collide with a neighboring galaxy to form a new one.

Something began to change... just an idea, the magnetic field began to change in one of the binary suns... causing and affecting.

Space as beautiful as it is... is a very violent place. I often think how many life forms have been destroyed and new forms created throughout its aeon process.

It’s a wonder... just simply put - amazing.

I’m happy to say though... Hubble combined with other technology has taught us a great deal about it’s laws. And it continues to do so. On October 10, next month... a mission to repair and upgrade Hubble will take place.

Have you guys ever checked out it’s power? Hubble has given us awesome OUT SIGHT for our personal insight.

I know every time I sit out under the stars... it powers me to think in a whole different perspective. The daily conditioning suddenly disappears and I’m in a totally different place because of it’s grand existence.

To think we are among it all.

        Thanks for the post.

I don't think my insurance covers planet collision. I should call my agent.
