The birth of our civilization came from communities that directly engaged nature. These communities did not have luxuries such as markets and local stores, so they had to provide for themselves. This meant hunting. The need for sustenance is why some of the first tools in our archeological record are stone tools made to carve and manipulate wood (i.e. for woodworking). Items such as wood spears, boats, bows, and other hunting elements were essential for people to live. They played a major part in our advancement and freed time for other activities such as art. Along with our progression, woodworking has evolved where its purposes and products have change to suit the modern wood using world.
