If you do some research, Carter and Clinton started the mess that we as taxpayers have to pay for. Not Bush. War yes, you can blame Congress and Bush. But, haven't we been safe ever since 9-11. It isn't because the Terrorist have not tried, it is because they were stopped. If you do some research you will find that the Democrats in Congress and Senate were making bundles in kickbacks from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, with Obama being number 2 on the list of the big takers. In 144 days in the Senate, he ask for 143 billion dollars in earmarks. Most of which he would have recieved a kick back. I pray daily that God lead us in the right direction, but God can only do so much. With all of the voter fraud that is already being caught, we are in deep doo doo.

Think about when Clinton got in office He cut our military big time made us look very weak, to the point that 911 happened. If our military wouldn't have been cut, 911 most likely wouldn't have happened. Then sure under clinton we weren't as deep in debt BUT we were saving funds on our lack of military, So Bush gets in . 911 happens, So now we have to put up a crapful of money to rebuild our military, Bush had to fix Clinton bad choices. If Clinton wasn't such a pancy we wouldn't be going through what we are now. And for Sarah She has more balls then Clinton could ever wish for!!!!!

gerisgirls and UnDumbed, are you two freakin' insane? You are saying that Clinton started this mess by cutting the military budget was why 911 happened?!!
Reply
What the hell is wrong with your brain! Bush had ALL THE INTELLIGENCE IN THE LAND to stop 911. He just didn't think that anyone was bold enough to do that.
1.) Clinton signed a REPUBLICAN CONGRESS BILL that would help more people own homes. Here that, A REPUBLICAN CONGRESS BILL. Now, if the Wall Street Republicans wouldn't have been so GREEDY, then this financial meltdown wouldn't be happening now.
That's what happens when you put your trust in some freakin' Republican financial sharks.
2.) How, IN THE HELL, you can say that "911 was Clinton's fault" and that Bush had to "fix Clinton's mistakes" is PREPOSTEROUS!!!! Our Military had a war when Clinton was in office that he ENDED...you know, THE GULF WAR!!
What, you're saying that the soldiers were weak then?? You both are idiots.
You freakin' Republicans are INSANE when it comes to the famous "Republican Spin." Let's look at this in a simple way (if you imbeciles can even comprehend simplicity):
1.) We are currently in war in Iraq that Bush has now asked to be extended to 2011!
2.) We are currently in war in Afghanistan!
3.) John McInsane is talking about bombing Iran!
4.) Sarah Palin is talking about potentially having to go to war with Russia, a NUCLEAR FREAKIN' POWER!!
(For those of you who can't count or read, that's 4 freakin' wars!)
George Dubya has:
1.) ...allowed the most deadly attack on American soil to happen...
2.) ...Overstretched our Military in a war against someone who was no imminent threat to our security, which is why Russia LAUGHED AT US when we tried to use "stern words" when they invaded Georgia. They knew we were weakened by our overstretched military, so they weren't in the slightest worried about us...
3.) ...had the worse response in a national natural disaster, leaving individuals devastated by hurricane Katrina TO DIE ...
4.) ...run the economy into the worse economic crisis since the Great Depression...
Yet, here you two are talking about it's all Clinton's fault? ROFL. You all are hard line, lying, intellectually dishonest, right-winged nut jobs.
**BREAKING NEWS!!!**
Bush has had FOUR MAJOR, NEGATIVE, AND DISASTROUS SITUATIONS OCCUR ON HIS PRESIDENTIAL WATCH. He is no longer "arguably" anymore, but LITERALLY THE WORSE PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE FREE WORLD!!
Yet here you are, gerisgirls and UnDumbed, talking negatively about Clinton, one of the best president EVER. Even with all of this American bloodshed, gore, and Republican warmongering, you Republicans are STILL talking about "George Bush is great!". You are mental, THAT'S what you are. The proof is all in this message. SWALLOW IT WHOLE! -

Amazing how Republicans talk about tax and spend liberals but are willing to look the other way as their borrow and spend conservatives wreck the country. Reagan added far more to the national debt than Carter. Not once did he balance his budget. That is an indication that his economic ideas were not sound. He could not pay for them. Bush I never balanced a budget sending us further into debt. Clinton reversed the Republican trend and gave the country a balanced budget. He left W a trillion dollar surplus. Which that fiscal conservative promptly spent. Bush II is the consummate conservative fulfilling every conservative's wet dream. He cut taxes on the wealthy. IN A TIME OF WAR. He has never balanced a budget. As a matter of fact he has doubled the national debt amassing more debt than all other presidents combined. Your saviour John McCain has already stated that he will not balance the budget until 2013. More of the same failed conservative policies. That tax and spend liberal Obama shows how he will pay for every nickle of his economic plan. You conservatives can fool yourself into believing that Republicans take care of our finances but the record of the last 3 Republican presidents along with the proposal of the current nominee tell differently. As for the economic meltdown it is happening because of deregulation. The conservative track record is quite astounding. The S scandal of the 80's happened because of deregulation. The Enron scandal happened because of deregulation. Now our entire financial system is melting down because of deregulation. And who is one of McCain's chief economic advisors? Phil Gramm who wrote the Bill to deregulate the financial sector. Yet you trust him to fix what he broke? The 100+ lobbyists on McCain's staff will make sure that the Maverick sticks to the status quo. The brilliant bailout alternative put forth by Republicans and echoed by the straight talk express is to further deregulate the industry and give corporations more tax cuts. McCain himself held up the deregulation of the financial sector as an example of how the healthcare system could be reformed. Are you willing to gamble your health on his bad judgement and allegiance to failed conservative ideology? No thanks.

Those of you who manage to keep a straight face while blaming Clinton for our financial and international image and condition have got to have ADD. Bill Clinton's Presidency left this country at peace, with a surplus and not a dollar iin deficits, created more jobs than any time inhistory and earned the respect politically of the entire world.

Actually, 9/11 happened on Bush's watch. It might not have if he had taken the warnings more seriously. Condi tried to tell him at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, on August 9, 2001, but he would not listen. As for other terrorist attacks, consider the bombing of our embassy in Yemen in 2008. Our allies have been attacked in Germany, London, Madrid, and the Philippines. If you do some research, you would discover that numerous Republicans have been receiving kickbacks from oil and natural gas companies. Praying that God leads us anywhere is a bunch of nonsense. If you want to make change in this country, get out in the public eye and make some change on your own. Until then, quit yapping about how much the Dems have messed up without nailing the Repubs for the same actions.

The Democrats try to pay for their programs. The republicons do not even try to pay for their pet projects. Historically the economy has done better with Democrats in control, while it has tanked when republicons are running things. Like now. Look at this chart.

Obama will create 20 Promise Neighborhoods in areas that have high levels of poverty and crime and low levels of student academic achievement in cities across the nation.
The Promise Neighborhoods will be modeled after the Harlem Children's Zone, which provides a full network of services, including early childhood education, youth violence prevention efforts and after-school activities, to an entire neighborhood from birth to college.
Obama proposes to achieve almost universal service for the nation’s 17 million college students by offering a refundable annual tax credit of $4,000 toward college tuition. This program should cost about $65-100 billion a year, perhaps more if it substantially increases the number of students attending college. In return for the credit, college students will be required to perform 100 hours of community service every year for four years. By offering college students a hefty $40 an hour, Mr. Obama will ensure that nearly every college student will participate in his program, without actually making their service mandatory.
Obama is announcing plans to expand President Bush's program steering federal social service dollars to religious groups.-

Sarah Palin and the Rapture
Is this country ready for a president who is excited about and eagerly looking forward to the Rapture?
Anyone who believes in the Rapture scenario will likely interpret a catastrophic nuclear exchange as the opening scene of the Rapture. A believer in the Rapture with his or her fingers on the nuclear trigger might even be tempted to bring on the Rapture.
Presumably Sarah Palin believes in the Rapture. It is one of the doctrines of her religion, and she has nowhere disavowed it. Are Americans ready to sleep at night with a President who longs for the Rapture?
The Rapture doctrine has no support in the historic Christianity of any of the main traditions - Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, or Protestant. The doctrine of the Rapture is cobbled together from several obscure, unrelated comments drawn from the epistles of Paul the Apostle. No credible biblical scholar in two thousand years of Christian history has taken seriously the Rapture doctrine, millennialism, or anything similar to it.

I would not call any passages in the Bible "obscure". Paul was used to write 13 of the 27 books in the New Testament and was one of the greatest Christians who ever lived. Every word was written for doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction and Jesus Himself honored the written Word and quoted it. Jesus also told us to "look up" when certain things begin to happen in this world, which you can read in Luke, Chapter 21, beginning with verse 8.

Yes, Sarah Palin should definitely step down. She's an embarrassment to femininity and a source of ridicule for the Republicans, and it's only going to get worse from here. She can "use" her infant as an excuse and leave with dignity, the nation will applaud her, the Republicans can make a sound choice in their VP pick and perhaps still pull this election out of the bag, But NOT with her on the ticket. She's a liability. Perhaps she can try again in 10-15 years, when she has some political miles under her belt and manage to not make a fool of herself in national forums. I feel sorry for her, her ambition far outweighs her knowledge and her abilities. Back to Wasilla Sarah, where you can resume being a big fish in your very, very small pond.

It was also discovered that, while at Syracuse Law School, Biden had plagiarized a law review article in a class paper he wrote.
Biden said the act was inadvertent due to his not knowing the proper rules of citation, and Biden was permitted to retake the course after receiving a grade of F in the course.
Biden also released at the same time the record of his grades as an undergraduate which were C's and D's and an F in ROTC during his first three semesters.
Further, when questioned by a New Hampshire resident about his grades in law school Biden had claimed falsely to have graduated in the "top half" of his class, (when he actually graduated 76th in a class of 85 .
1988
Democratic presidential candidate Joseph R. Biden Jr., a U.S. senator from Delaware, was driven from the nomination battle after delivering, without attribution, passages from a speech by British Labor party leader Neil Kinnock.
A barrage of subsidiary revelations by the press also contributed to Biden's withdrawal: a serious plagiarism incident involving Biden during his law school years; the senator's boastful exaggerations of his academic record at a New Hampshire campaign event; and the discovery of other quotations in Biden's speeches pilfered from past Democratic politicians.

Call me prudent but Sarah was done for as soon as she said (paraphrasing this so don't point fingers for not getting it 100% word for word), if Russia moves into Georgia we'll go to war with them...though she did apologize, a world leader shouldn't have to apologize for mistakes such as those. They need to be an example the people must follow, and naivete and the apparent inexperience (or the hunger of power) whichever people decide it is, is not what we need. I do agree, in maybe 8 years she should come back after she composes herself.

Compare that to Obama, as an Illinois state legislator, stating that a preemptive strike against Iran could be necessary: “In light of the fact that we’re now in Iraq, with all the problems in terms of perceptions about America that have been created, us launching some missile strikes into Iran is not the optimal position for us to be in. On the other hand, having a radical Muslim theocracy in possession of nuclear weapons is worse. So I guess my instinct would be to err on not having those weapons in the possession of the ruling clerics of Iran."
Preemptive missile strike on Iran? Hmm...sounds so....Bushy.-

Duly noted. Yet, the public announcement of such, even in the appropriated context as you mentioned, isn't wise due to the fact that Russia is a powerful super country and ally.
Reply
On the second behalf didn't he already explain that his first intentions were negotiations? Not denying what he said, yet in light of other things he has said and together analyzing the context as a whole picture it just seems to be a step.
From what I have analyzed from the global situation is, he wants to try and conclude Iraq (because it should of never happened) and actually go to Afghanistan because that's where the real problems are anyway. (McCain said that Iraq and Afghanistan are connected, which is quite frankly incredibly loaded). The Iran crisis is a touchy subject, no matter how you look at it. But after reviewing both sides approach to it, I feel that Obama's negotiation then act approach is the only way; because if we use McCain's approach, by simply pushing everything under the rug and not acknowledging any fact whatsoever of their existence as if they're "terrorists," then it's possible a nuclear war can occur. By saying preemptive missile strikes generally dictate, "yes, this country is hostile towards us, this is inevitable and I'd rather strike first." But right now, as I can see towards anyone's platforms, that is not the first immediate reaction and people need to see that.
So to prevent further straying of topic, my feelings still remain the same until someone can come by and present the details, with evidence, and compare it with the whole picture.-

you yourself stated that Iran currently, IS a clear danger...in correspondence to "when Iran becomes a danger" and to Israel, which the previous quote states so in relation to the supportive statement.

If they have no confidence in her ability to explain herself and her views how can you expect her to lead the free world? Joe Biden will go on any show and debate anyone. Palin obviously can not handle the pressure. Where has she been? Do you really have confidence in someone that can not be trusted to campaign? I sleep at night, convinced, you must be right…I’m your robot!
But if you're wrong, I'll still, go right along…I’m your robot!
Chorus: When you go to hell, I will go as well…
everybody there, I’ll tell…I’m your robot!

And the Bush strategy of threatening them if they don't do everything we say is working brilliantly. Both North Korea and Iran have gotten stronger in the last 8 years. If your neighbor pointed a gun at you I you'd go out and buy your own gun to defend yourself. Iran just watched the US invade Iraq and depose its government based on lies. And got away with it. Then the US starts threatening them. Of course they are going to build up their defense. Threatening them has only encouraged them to speed up the process. Fools. I'm sure you will be first in line to enlist when we attack Iran won't you.

The question should be considering the age and health of John McCain is whether or not Sarah can be the President if called to duty. As VP her role will be minimal. John will send her overseas to represent the softer side of America. She will have no role in day to day operations. John asked her to join him for one reason and that was to get the womens votes. It's the only way he has a shot at the nomination.

"Obama entered Harvard Law School in late 1988. At the end of his first year, he was selected, based on his grades and a writing competition, as an editor of the Harvard Law Review.[19] ... After graduating with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) magna *** laude from Harvard in 1991, he returned to Chicago."
To be clear, the words magna *** laude mean "with great honor." They are reserved for students who achieve academic excellence.
Unless you have verifiable proof otherwise, I will take magna *** laude from a prestigious institution such as Harvard University as quite credible evidence that Sen. Obama was much more than a "mediocre student."-

As Harvard College continues to flounder in the mires of grade inflation, we applaud the Law School for setting stricter limits on the number of students who graduate with honors.
Currently, 70 percent of graduating law students achieve the minimum grade point average to receive a *** laude degree. With that ridiculous fact staring them in the face, Law School faculty members overwhelmingly voted to bestow honors upon only 40 percent of the graduating class.
***********************
Using a competitive process that takes into account first-year grades, an editing exercise, and a written commentary on a court decision, The Harvard Law Review selects between 41 and 43 editors annually from the second-year Law School class, which numbers 560.
Two editors from each of first-year class's seven sections (fourteen in all) are selected half by their first year grades and half by their scores on the writing competition. Another twenty are selected solely on their scores on the writing competition. The other seven to nine are selected by a discretionary committee, either to fulfill the review's race-based affirmative action program, to select students who just missed the cut by either of the other two processes, or by some other criteria as the committee sees fit.
Until the 1970's the editors were picked on the basis of grades, and the president of the Law Review was the student with the highest academic rank.
That system came under attack in the 1970's and was replaced by a program in which about half the editors are chosen for their grades and the other half are chosen by fellow students after a special writing competition. The new system, disputed when it began, was meant to help insure that minority students became editors of The Law Review.-

Your argument seems to be:

Harvard University gives out honors to some students who are mediocre.
Sen. Obama attended Harvard University and achieved these honors.
Therefore...
Sen. Obama must be a mediocre student.
This is fallacious reasoning. Unless you have some actual proof that he was a mediocre student, your statement that "Sen. Obama was a mediocre student" is not credible.-

I'm not sure what the truth is about obama being admitted to Harvard, so I will not repeat it.
Reply
However, there is a question about how he paid for it.
tech - the wikipedia story was scrubbed - 70% of the class received cu*m laud. Tradition has it that one of the top 3 students, SUMMA cu*m laud is editor.
Furthermore, it is unheard of for the editor to not submit an article under his/her name. -

Klarissa - I stand corrected regarding my assumption that honors at Harvard can be trusted to correlate to achievement. Thanks for the information.
Reply
However, your original contention is that Sen. Obama was a mediocre student. You haven't shown any reason to believe that yet.
"there is a question about how he paid for it."
Red herring. This has nothing to do with his academic achievement.
"also, unfortunately, you have the failed Annenberg project to contend with."
Another red herring. This relates to his professional achievement, but has nothing to do with his record as a student.
"I would like to know how many times he went to trial - and what the outcome was."
Hate to sound like a broken record, but yet another red herring.
These are all valid questions, but they do not support your contention that Sen. Obama was a mediocre student. You're a good researcher, Klarissa. I'm surprised that you would make claims that you cannot support without qualifying those claims as mere opinion.

Obama graduated with great praise, Magna C*M :Laude - so your article doesn't EVEN pertain to Senator Obama.-

try summa for top 10%
Reply
magna and regular the other 60%. Since Obama has not released his grades or his standing, we don't know if he was at the 50,60,70,or 80th percentile.
had he been in the top 20%, more than respectable, I am sure we would know about it.-

Well - apparently two links mean spam??

try Magna for top 10% - summa not - summa is a very small percentage, possibly only one person.
You keep going on about 70% from your article which in your article only references C*M Laude! You're spinning this Klarissa and you're being untruthful!
==================================================...
Taken from the WeeklyStandard (won't post a link since I think that's what got me spammed):
The only reason I bring this barely relevant history up is to show what a stud of a law student Barack Obama was. He graduated Harvard magna c*m laude. This was one honor you unquestionably had to earn. It's a very impressive feat. Back in Obama's days at Harvard, more than 50 percent of the class graduated c*m laude, a fact that made graduating "with honors" a meaningless accomplishment. But graduating magna was a different kettle of fish. Barack Obama graduated right near the top of his law school class.
==================================================...
Here's some more info from you straight from Harvard:
http://www.law.harvard.edu/ocs/employers/HLS_Gradi...
Harvard Law School recognizes the achievement of attaining and maintaining high grades through graduation honors. Students who graduate with a general average of 7.20 and above are honored with the distinction of graduating summa c*m laude. The top 10% of the class, excluding summa, are honored with the distinction of graduating magna c*m laude. Finally, the next 30% of the class, after magna are honored with the distinction of graduating c*m laude.

I'm a Democrat but I was hoping for more from Palin. She's not VP material and I'm sure the rest of the world will or already sees that which is another moment of shame for the USA. I was worried on the possible Democratic VP pick until Biden was announced. Palin came in as a "wow" of wonder but now more so as a dud.

It is scarey to think Palin could preside over the nation if something happened to McCain. Considering his age, that is a serious consideration. McCain was playing political games choosing her to attract Hillary supporters. That does not show good judgment on his part. That is not the way putting country first!!! Together the ticket spells DISASTER!

It's plain to see you have never hunted moose. People here in Wyoming, like in Alaska, use moose, elk and deer as a very healthy food source that hasn't been shot up with antibiotics and steriods. Stay in the city and your local butcher shop but don't condemn us for supplying our own food. And I believe the pic was her with a caribou.-

The program exists in large part because the state's intensive game management law puts a premium on efforts to "restore the abundance or productivity of identified big game prey populations as necessary to achieve human consumptive use goals."
Reply
The "big game prey" in question are the approximately 1 million caribou and 175,000 to 200,000 moose in the state.
Subsistence hunters are a major priority in wildlife management in Alaska, although a subsistence hunter is hard to define.
Clarke offered some statistics: About 20 percent of Alaska's population, or roughly 135,000 people, is classified as rural. About 92 percent to 100 percent of rural Alaskans use wild fish for food to some extent, and 79 percent to 92 percent use wildlife. Palin, herself a hunter, might live in too urban an area to be included in these statistics, but she has said she eats moose and other game.

Some of you are just underestimating Palin and her abilities. McCain is planning to have Palin meet with Ahmedinejad as a "pre condition" for diplomatic talks with Iran. Palin will open a dialogue with Ahmedinejad about home schooling, no sex ed, restricting women's rights to choose...the religious ruling leaders in Iran will love Palin's ideas which are so closely aligned with theirs. And this will be the beginning of our beautiful new friendship with Iran...

Mccains pick of Palin is an insult to all women. Is this his perception of sucessful American women? Is Palin suppose to represent what all Ameican women want? Just exactly what group of women was McCain trying to appeal to by picking Palin? Mccain made a fool out of Palin by asking her to run for a position unprepared. She wasn't even six months post baby delivery.

I find it extremely intersting that people are knocking John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin. What I find most disturbing is the comments that she is just a "heart beat" away from the presidency. What about the known fact of Barack Obama - he smokes - he could easily die of heartattack and what about his choice Joe Biden - he's had heart not once but twice - so if anyone should be concerned we should be concerned that it is more likely that the Speaker of the House could easily be the next President.

As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Obama made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. In August 2005, he traveled to Russia, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan. The trip focused on strategies to control the world's supply of conventional weapons, biological weapons, and weapons of mass destruction as a first defense against potential terrorist attacks.<61>
Reply
Following meetings with U.S. military in Kuwait and Iraq in January 2006, Obama visited Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian territories.
He left for his third official trip in August 2006, traveling to South Africa, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Chad. In a nationally televised speech at the University of Nairobi, he spoke forcefully on the influence of ethnic rivalries and corruption in Kenya.
Obama worked with Russ Feingold (D–WI) to eliminate gifts of travel on corporate jets by lobbyists to members of Congress and require disclosure of bundled campaign contributions under the "Honest Leadership and Open Government Act", which was signed into law in September 2007.
He joined Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in sponsoring S. 453, a bill to criminalize deceptive practices in federal elections, including fraudulent flyers and automated phone calls, as witnessed in the 2006 midterm elections.
Obama also introduced the "Iraq War De-Escalation Act", a bill to cap troop levels in Iraq, begin phased redeployment, and remove all combat brigades from Iraq before April 2008.<68>
Later in 2007, Obama sponsored with Kit Bond (R-MO) an amendment to the 2008 Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges, and calling for a review by the Government Accountability Office following reports that the procedure had been used inappropriately to reduce government costs.
joined Chuck Hagel (R-NE) in introducing legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism.A provision from the Obama-Hagel bill was passed by Congress in December 2007 as an amendment to the State-Foreign Operations appropriations bill.
Obama also sponsored a Senate amendment to the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) to provide one year of job protection for family members caring for soldiers with combat-related injuries. After passing both houses of Congress with bipartisan majorities, SCHIP was vetoed by President Bush in early October 2007, a move Obama said "shows a callousness of priorities that is offensive to the ideals we hold as Americans." -
