Obama Looked Presidential, While McCain Was Angry »
Posted By capj71 1 year, 3 months ago in NewsWe can talk about who had the best lines or zingers all night, but a major subtheme of this debate was the question of Barack Obama’s readiness to be president. Obama held his own in foreign policy. McCain was a little subpar, but Obama won tonight by looking like a president.

That's the new CON spin. They're all trying to distance themselves from bush, & put democrats in their place. And they're hoping Americans are so stupid that they'll forget their rubber stamps for every last one of bush's requests. (And Johnny is right up there with the rest of them).

Obama validated my assessment of him that has been crystalizing since he became the nominee. He is a serious, straight talker, not prone to typical 'old school' ad hominem attacks, and very, very prepared.
What was added, in my opinion, was a refreshing embrace of ... a vision for Moral Values.
I say refreshing because ... this has been missing for so long in American Politics. In fact, the past 8 years will go down in history as the most Morally Vacant in our long, illustrious history as a nation.
Ttraditional American values' is precisely what's been painfully missing since the Reagan era.
When Republicans merged the Neo-Conservative ideology into their platform, they not only took on an immoral military expansionist ethos ...but also a Morally Vacant ideology of promoting welfare for the wealthy.
This 'Welfare for the Wealthy' also goes by 'Trickle Down' economics. The very essence of which is something America rejected after the Robber Baron days.
Even Republicans, in their candid moments, ridicule the whole notion ... as George H. W. Bush did when he ridiculed Reagan's Trickle Down ideas as 'VooDoo Economics'.
And yet, here is Johnny McCain ... STILL promoting tax cuts for the wealthy.
Let me tell you, you can only give someone money (welfare) until there is reached a point of diminishing returns.
It happens with welfare to the poor, and it happens with welfare for the rich.
But McCain is stuck in the 70's. -

Obama was NOT prepared for this debate. He missed several knock-out-hits that should have ended the contest in round three.
Reply
just one example (more to come from the duck- hold on)..
--Obama when asked about the current recession should have POUNDED McCain's approach to reducing spending.: The U.S. needs to pump money INTO the economy during a recession so as to give the main street person money to spend.......like duh?
During the EARLY prosperous years of GWB (thanks to Cinton), the REPUBLICAN controlled congress and executive ranches, the U.S. should have been paying down the debt, NOT raSING IT. But. instead they SPENT SPENT SPENT. -

When you have sided with Bush over 90% of the time, you have to say "What" when they try to portary their opponent as being like the president. So McCain is saying Obama voted with Bush more than 90% of the time. What happen to the republican brand and why are the republican running away from it.

The only reason Obama seemed more prepared was that he was jabbering out a larger vocabulary; trying to be the wiser intellect, but McCain knew exactly what he was talking about. Obama just prides himself on being a good speaker, which in my opinion, he is not...Remember, Obama only "speaks" of all his political views, when he intern does not have the slightest clue on how to make it happen, whereas, McCain, he has the knowledge and background. "This is not an on-the-job training" type of career, but presidency! Use common sense! McCain is the way to go!

After watching this debate is is clear to me that McCain has more to him than I had first thought. Obama has a lot of talk about how he would like things to be. I do not have confidence in him to do what he says. America is at war and our economy is suffering because of it. We need a realist to take care of the situation at hand. I am really scared to see people interested in electing Obama. I don't want to "change" the problem; I want a fix to the problem.

After watching the whole debate I realized that I should have been taking count. That is taking count of how many times Sen. Obama Had to Correct Sen. McCain. McCain said several misstatements or outright lies about Obama. Sen Obama called him out on lies many times. Most of those seemed to be at the point of subject change. The point at which Mr. Obama couldn't fully question Mr. McCain on these statements. en. McCain seem to be very good at timing his lies about his opponent. Unfortunately he has to stoop to lying about his opponent instead of sticking to factual points.

Obama seemed more prepared because he was more prepared. Just because he was using a bigger vocabulary doesnt mean anything he still spoke in a manner to where people who didnt understand "BIG WORDS" would understand. McCain on the other hand spoke as if he was speaking to one of his colleagues. Alot of americans dont have the education to follow along in such debates. There were points that Obama didnt argue, but overall he did a fine job. Just because he may not be "QUALIFIED" for the position doesnt mean he wont do well. Hell, we gave men like "BUSH" who had the qualifications the votes and look where that has gotten us.

I didn't watch. McCain is a republican who voted with bush more than 90% of the time. He's voted against every bill to help veterans. He's voted for every piece of deregulation that crossed his desk. He hired the man ( whose deregulation bill was the straw that broke the camel's back with our economy) as a campaign advisor. He learned nothing from the savings and loan collapse, and interfered with its investigation (see Keating 5). He chose a running mate who would be devastating should she have to assume his role & who wouldn't have the intelligence to make decisions & would be easily manipulated by outside republican forces. He would be a disaster fixing the messes of george bush on the world stage. No need to watch debates. Obama has my vote. I judge the candidates on what they've done, not what they say. Obama is far above McCain on that score.

It always amazing to me how cheaply peoples' vote can be bought. You praise Obama for being "truthful" without knowing the facts about his background and his voting record. You are the same people who bought all Clinton's lies and think he was a good President - Take the time to check facts about his record on deregulation, on health care, etc. Now you cheer for another smooth talker with no experience at leading. This is our country - you people must get serious about holding our politicians to a higher standard and stop believing campaign garbage. Check out politifact.org and others. You might want to check on why and when this mess began and on whose watch.

However I do want to point out that the reason he was 'hunched over' is because he's old and because he suffered a *lot* of damage to his body when he was tortured by the VietCong (or not tortured according to BushCo).
McCain used to be one of my favorite senators, frankly. He was the 'Maverick' he now claims to be but has since sold out to every Right-wing nutjob 'value' that I despise in this nation's divided state. He has embraced wedge issues that matter little in the grand scheme of America, embraced insane evagelicals where he used to be atheist or at least non-religious and chosen a partner who is the utter representation of every repressive, oppressive, violent, disgusting evangelical to run beside him for the VP slot.
If you're going to talk about him, talk about what he said or didn't say, did or didn't do. Comments about how he carried himself seem spiteful and pretty lame in terms of the overall picture. -

Reply
With respect to Iraq, Obama is right. We should never have started the war. With respect to Iran, Obama is correct when he says Ahmedinejad may not be the most powerful person in Iran. Iran is actually run by the religious leaders who tell Ahmedinejad what decisions to make. McCain is wrong when he says Ahmedinejad is the most powerful figure in Iran. And those are just 2 examples.-

From what I've read so far I would put McCain ahead by a little. So far he has come across as more knowledgeable especially on foreign policy. He can pull out the knowledge he learned through his own experiences when it comes to foreign policy while Obama can't. Both of them are giving good counter arguments and throwing in some hard hitting one liners. The reason I have McCain ahead as of now is because it seems hes had Obama on his heels more often than McCain has been on his.
The debate is refreshing, we actually get to talk about the issues rather than some silly ads. -

I was a little disappointed myself. I don't think there was a clear winner in this.

Obama failed to make a number of points against McCain when opportunities arose. For example, when asked what they would be willing to cut from their budgets in order to pay for the bailouts being currently proposed, McCain responded that he'd cut everything "except military and veteran benefits"...Obama should have pounced on that because McCain has voted down EVERY veteran benefit package that has crossed his path. There were at least a half-dozen missed opportunities like that.
On the other hand, I thought McCain did better than expected. He didn't appear to be as scattered on issues as he has in the the past. Although, his demeanor came across as a cranky old man as he refused to look at Obama when he spoke, and chose condescension over congeniality when addressing the issues.
All in all, I saw this debate as a tie. A few negative points for Obama because he didn't take the easy opportunities to shut down McCain on issues left wide open to him. And a few positive points for McCain for his overall grasp of the issues, coming off a week of total disintegration. He had no where to go but up, while Obama lost a little ground. Going into the debate, I think Obama had a clear lead, and now it seems to be neck and neck again.
I can't wait until the VP debate next week.....THAT should be a fun one.-

However, he will have to accept that John McCain is ruthless and that he lies not by accident, but by intent and malice of forethought! Obama must accept that fact and act accordingly. Do you not realize that Obama was only 8 years old when Ayers was involved with that radical group? Obama had NO dealings with him in that regard and is NOT a close associate of Ayers, that is a flat out lie and guilt by the flimsiest association! I also know that Obama's views are NOT that of Rev. Wright, and that he is an independent thinker. He may not have wanted to accept that the same man who introduced him and his family to Christianity could become so embittered and espouse such vitrolic rhetoric. His sense of gratitude and loyalty probably made him reluctant to believe that Rev. Wright had become so bitter and angry, but people do change over the years.

Somehow, those things are looked upon as anathema. Do you not see something wrong with that picture??

You have not looked at Obama's voting record; you are unable to cite it specifically.
He voted numerous times as IL senator. He has "shown up" to events for his constituents in IL, most remarkably after the NIU shooting. He is earning his pay; he is thoughtful. READ HIS BOOKS. Unlike the other candidates who need speechwriters, Senator Obama writes his own.
Perhaps your work as an escort keeps you too busy to read, and it is your own eyes looked into each time you look into a mirror that are empty.

That is in a nutshell, what is wrong with America.
The strange and lazy belief that one can judge a man, by the steady gaze of sincerity in his eyes;
by the firmness of his handshake,
the bearing of his shoulders,
the confident way he spins words and claps you on the back.
It is spiritual fraud; because you are not looking inwards, but at the surface;
prefering actors and liars who have no shame in their eyes.
Sorry; the only way to judge someones heart, is by their actions.
By their fruit you shall know them

The minimal responsibility we, as American citizens, have is the vote. It is what our forefathers died for. It is what the suffragettes and civil rights marchers sacrificed for. The benefits of American citizenship didn't come for free, but today we have so many people willing to throw away that sacrifice made for them like it counts for nothing. I have zero tolerance for anyone unwilling to do the MINIMUM, for any reason. It is inexcusable, and Americans who waste the sacrifices made for them by those who came before them are a complete and utter embarrassment...not only to themselves, but to their country.
Bottom line.........I say, vote or keep your mouth shut. That's where I stand.

Obama has made the statement many time that he is against war. Last night he made a statement that he would blow away Pakistan. Doesn't sound like he's against war to me. He talks out both sides of his mouth!!!!!!!!!!!!!! McCain/Palin '08
