Obama Looked Presidential, While McCain Was Angry »

Posted By capj71 1 year, 3 months ago in News

We can talk about who had the best lines or zingers all night, but a major subtheme of this debate was the question of Barack Obama’s readiness to be president. Obama held his own in foreign policy. McCain was a little subpar, but Obama won tonight by looking like a president.

Yup. Obama was clearly prepared for this debate. I think one of the best points was when McSame compared Barry to dumbya, and Barry just laughed.

The only reason Obama seemed more prepared was that he was jabbering out a larger vocabulary; trying to be the wiser intellect, but McCain knew exactly what he was talking about. Obama just prides himself on being a good speaker, which in my opinion, he is not...Remember, Obama only "speaks" of all his political views, when he intern does not have the slightest clue on how to make it happen, whereas, McCain, he has the knowledge and background. "This is not an on-the-job training" type of career, but presidency! Use common sense! McCain is the way to go!

I didn't watch. McCain is a republican who voted with bush more than 90% of the time. He's voted against every bill to help veterans. He's voted for every piece of deregulation that crossed his desk. He hired the man ( whose deregulation bill was the straw that broke the camel's back with our economy) as a campaign advisor. He learned nothing from the savings and loan collapse, and interfered with its investigation (see Keating 5). He chose a running mate who would be devastating should she have to assume his role & who wouldn't have the intelligence to make decisions & would be easily manipulated by outside republican forces. He would be a disaster fixing the messes of george bush on the world stage. No need to watch debates. Obama has my vote. I judge the candidates on what they've done, not what they say. Obama is far above McCain on that score.

Mccains demeanor was of an old man or a pit bull, hunched over, always looking at the floor. Never looking directly at Obama and never looking presidential. His answer rambled and repeated the same lines he continues to use in his campaigne speeches. I DONT WANT mCCAIN OR PALIN IN OUR EXECUTIVE BRANCH, NO WAY, NO HOW

McCain is dangerous to the United States. We don't need another general via election, we need Good judgement! McCain would have the American education system ranked 100 instead of only 17 in the world!

rhea12483, It is too bad that you cannot understand when a speaker is making a specific point; you have to fall back on the old, common, typical complaint that the vocabulary is too big.
It was beyond you. That's your problem.
Specific problems need solutions of specificity, including descriptions of those problems that are accurate, and plans of action that are NOT just Wal-Mart level preaching.
If you slept through your English and grammar classes, and rant about someone who did not, it is an embarrassment for you, not for Obama.

McCain looked like the asshole he is. He didn't have the balls to look Obama in the eye. That is something a liar cannot do, is look you in the eye. He is not for veterans and he is a Bush clone. Hopefully, America will get it right this time and put the right person in the White House..........Barrack Obama!
Oh God! Did you see Sarah Palin's interviews with Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson? What a dingbat, can you just see that idiot taking over when McCain drops over! Lord help us! Just what we don't need.... an old fart and a airhead!

Anyone making less than $250,000.00 a year will get a tax break.McCain isout for the rich and not for the middle class. Barrack Obama will take care of the American people. Do you have 7 homes? I don't think so. McCain is a war monger and a thief. He is a doddering old man who is still trying to look like he has all his faculties. He makes so many blunders it is hard to keep count of them. Just like last night, he had to put the dogs on and tell everyone Ted Kennedy was in the hospital........WRONG ASSHOLE! Ted Kennedy was at home watching the debate. His doctors sent him home you dumbshit!

Watching the debate, I don't understand why many people are under the assumption that McCain is better at foreign policy.

With respect to Iraq, Obama is right. We should never have started the war. With respect to Iran, Obama is correct when he says Ahmedinejad may not be the most powerful person in Iran. Iran is actually run by the religious leaders who tell Ahmedinejad what decisions to make. McCain is wrong when he says Ahmedinejad is the most powerful figure in Iran. And those are just 2 examples.

I think Obama did a better job at fooling the American voters, so, yeah, he wins this round.

So we have an authentic, but dated and myopic McCain vs. an "I have a bracelet too," textbook-savvy visionary...If America were a ship, I'd be wearing my life preserver about now. (shakes head)

A good vocabulary doesn't fix the economy or win the war in Iraq. Its nice to listen to and makes anything he says sound good, but that doesn't mean its actually good.

You would THINK people would WANT a president that spoke in "big words" instead of like the blithering idiot we have now. The dumbing down of this country is just so sad to watch, it's like watching a relative with Alzheimer's slowly lose their mind.

I didn't watch the debate but I've been reading through the transcript, which I think is a better way to understand what the candidates were saying. If you watch it sometimes you get distracted by how someone sounds and miss their points.

From what I've read so far I would put McCain ahead by a little. So far he has come across as more knowledgeable especially on foreign policy. He can pull out the knowledge he learned through his own experiences when it comes to foreign policy while Obama can't. Both of them are giving good counter arguments and throwing in some hard hitting one liners. The reason I have McCain ahead as of now is because it seems hes had Obama on his heels more often than McCain has been on his.

The debate is refreshing, we actually get to talk about the issues rather than some silly ads.

Unless you make a lot of money, McCain never spoke to you during this debate. Obama repeatedly spoke to the middle class, the same people who have been abandoned by Bush policies for 8 years. It is difficult to understand how any struggling American could ever relate to Bush/McCain. The debate cemented that.

I was a little disappointed myself. I don't think there was a clear winner in this.

Obama failed to make a number of points against McCain when opportunities arose. For example, when asked what they would be willing to cut from their budgets in order to pay for the bailouts being currently proposed, McCain responded that he'd cut everything "except military and veteran benefits"...Obama should have pounced on that because McCain has voted down EVERY veteran benefit package that has crossed his path. There were at least a half-dozen missed opportunities like that.

On the other hand, I thought McCain did better than expected. He didn't appear to be as scattered on issues as he has in the the past. Although, his demeanor came across as a cranky old man as he refused to look at Obama when he spoke, and chose condescension over congeniality when addressing the issues.

All in all, I saw this debate as a tie. A few negative points for Obama because he didn't take the easy opportunities to shut down McCain on issues left wide open to him. And a few positive points for McCain for his overall grasp of the issues, coming off a week of total disintegration. He had no where to go but up, while Obama lost a little ground. Going into the debate, I think Obama had a clear lead, and now it seems to be neck and neck again.

I can't wait until the VP debate next week.....THAT should be a fun one.

I watched the debate, I am a McCain / Palin supporter, but if I did NOT know anything about Obama and his past associations with William Ayers & the rascist, Amerca hating Jeremiah Wright, I would possibly vote for Obama because he did come off like someone who cares for the American people . Unfortunately he and his wife are a radical socialists, therefore I will NEVER vote for Barack Hussein Obama .

Senator Obama looked as he always looked. He always has the same look. I judge the honesty of an individual by the look in his eyes. His eyes are empty. He is an excellent speaker. But he has always been a great speaker. He always says that he was against something, he co-sponsored something etc. But the problem is, he hasn't voted for or against anything. Right now he is drawing pay from the taxpayers and hasn't shown up for work in two years. No! Obama did not look or act Presidential.

******* in the wind...what's the point of the debates at all? Our votes (popular votes) don't count anyway! The delegates are going to elect the president via the electoral vote and it's their opinions i.e., ideas and attitudes that will elect our next president. I think I'll stay at home on election day and watch the theatrics.
