It isn't, slate. It was until people tuned in. Now Obama is approaching a double-digit lead in Gallup. Today is his second day in a row with an eight point lead. One electoral analysis site now has the chance of an Obama landslide greater then a McCain win. Its really dropped off for McCain this week.

And to answer your question, slate...it really shouldn't be close. In my view, if Obama were a white man running with the exact same charismatic demeanor and progressive agenda against McCain, he would be at least 20% ahead in the polls.
You may laugh at that analogy, but watching this race I have noticed that Obama is winning all of the blue states won by Kerry in 2004, plus - if the election were held today - he would win Colorado, Iowa, New Mexico, and Virgina. The only places Obama ISN'T winning are the rest of the Rocky Mountain midwest and in the south:

These are the places in the country that will never get over their anger and fear of the other: Fear and anger over any woman who might choose to have an abortion. Fear of gay people cohabiting. Fear of "uppity blacks" (I live in Arkansas, aplace that would be covered up in Hillary signs had she become the nominee...but not a finger lifted for Obama.) Fear of anyone who is not from America, legal or not. (Man, I would hate to be unlucky enough to be of Arab descent in America today....and being of Mexican descent isn't much better.) And what makes it worse is that the greedy MFs who want a completely deregulated laissez-faire business have manipulated all of the above to push through their deregulating agenda (because you and I both know that money is the bottom line and that most of 'em really couldn't give two sh*ts about ANY of the social issues....cynical of me maybe but true...).
Now I know you already think I'm full of BS, but I will say this anyway:
Obama is going to win the 2008 election. You can take that to the bank!-

Scott? Is that all you have? It must be racism? Coming form the party that has a former head of the KKK, The Rev Wright, Obama's Camp using the same race card against the Clintons, Obama calling white folks 'crackers' and typical white women?
Reply
Let's not forget the racist things said about Condi Rice, Jessie Jackson calling Obama the N word , sheets Byrd saying that same word on national TV.
Obama and your party has used his 'race' as a way to try and silence others, even though he is half white, you only see the Black man in him and try and use that as a tool, as you just did.
Just remember he is also half white, and when we disagree we only disagree with the white half to placate your over sense of need to use his black half as a tool to try and silence us.
In passing, YOUR own party put out an article a week or so ago saying that there are enough in your own party that won't vote for him because of the black part of his mixed race and that they fear YOUR own racists in YOUR party will keep him out of the office.
