I was glad to see that 95 democrats voted against it also, in addition to the republicans. It's nice to see that some of our representatives actually listen to us. This should truly be a bipartisan bill that everyone can live with. Pelosi blew it when she tried to shift all the blame to Bush. Everyone is sick of that rhetoric. There is blame aplenty but that's not what is going to get the problem solved. Hopefully there will be a better bill introduced on Thursday. -

Good post, thx, I sadly knew how my rep voted. It made no difference that I and other members of my family called, as usual. I called back after the vote and affirmed what I figured he would do. Marion Berry always does what Nancy tell his to do.

IT IS QUITE CLEAR TO ME THAT THE ONLY ONES MAKING MONEY FROM THIS BAILOUT ARE THE COMPANYS WHO CAUSED IT, AND THE POLS WHO THESE CROOKED GREEDY COMPANYS ARE PAYING OFF TO GET ALL THIS TAXPAYERS MONEY..

I agree with most of what you stated. Yet, there is one man who predicted all of this and warned us continually of the outcome. That man is congressman Ron Paul. He introduced a bill to end the fed. the fed is not a govt. agency, but rather a racket controlling us like puppets.
Please call your reps. and urge them to support: HR 2755
My reps. voted against my wishes in spite of my calls and e-mails.
I will call back re: HR 2755.
and in Nov. I will vote against these folks who pandered to criminals on Wall Street by voting in favor of the bailout, instead of supporting Americans who put them in office. -

You're basically right about but it all started with legislation from Congress and the President, President's Carter and Clinton. President George W. Bush tried to stop this but was laughed at and his attempts to get legislation passed to stop the abuses was blocked by the liberal democrats in Congress. This is well documented, therefore, when the liberals whine it isn't so they are only doing what they do best, lying. -

72Liame- We're all aware that Bush and the big corporation's greed and ignorance caused this. That doesn't change the current reality- if the bailout doesn't pass the average American is going to pay a much bigger price than the $$$ the bailout will cost. With banks and the stockmarket failing, people will lose their life savings and their homes. When the banks fail credit lines are frozen= no home, car or student loans. Prices skyrocket as merchants raise their prices trying to survive, people that can no longer afford their mortgage can't even borrow against their equity to survive or sell their homes to prevent foreclosure because no-one will be able to get a home loan to BUY a house. Yes, the politicians ( especially Bush) and the corporations ARE at fault- but the sad reality is we MUST make sure the bailout goes thru- if we don't, we will all have to survive another Great Depression.

You may use www.congress.org to make it easy to send e-mail messages to your elected representatives. I URGE you to write or call them and TELL them, don't ask them, TELL them to vote NO to handing $700 Billion dollars to Henry Paulson to blow as he wishes on their big banking campaign donors. And you KNOW that is EXACTLY what will happen unless we, the people can somehow convince them NOT to do it. Threatening their job seems to be the only thing that works. Don't be afraid to do that. Thank you.

Joeblowe- your name suits you well. You are an idiot- do you realize what will happen to the average American -ALL OF US THAT AREN'T EXTREMELY WEALTHY- if the bailout fails? Failed banks = frozen credit, that's right- no home, car or student loans. No avoiding foreclosure when you can't make your payments, you can't sell your home when no one can get a loan to purchase it. No borrowing against your equity to survive when you lose your life savings. Please don't contact congress or even vote for that matter, until you educate yourself. Hopefully you have the brains to comprehend actual facts, not idiotic propaganda.

Thank you for the email address. I will pass the information on. By the way, a friend of mine works for the Obama campaign and they have been told to call our house members and our senate and tell them we want the bail out. We need to let our congressmen know that isn't true again.

This article is definitely written by a non-thinker. If you put pressure on big corporations then those corporations will fold and people will be unemployed. Please intelligently and logically think things through before you write them. Instead of listening to propaganda, do some research on the advantages and disadvantages of the bailout. One advantage that I am aware of is that it will help those who are facing foreclosures. People please do your own research and do not depend on your political party or the media to do it for you.

Vote YES- you are a complete idiot if you plan to vote no- we're not just bailing out corporate fatcats- the reality is: if the bailout fails, the banks fail- students can't get student loans, people can't get loans to buy homes or cars, people that are losing their homes can't even sell them to avoid foreclosure because no-one can get a loan to purchase a home! Old people can't borrow against the equity in their homes to help them survive after losing their retirement thanks to this recession. Forget about your anger at bailing out corporations and look at the BIG picture- if this bailout doesn't come thru we are headed into a depression-with credit frozen ALL of us will end up paying a whole lot more than the sum total of the bailout- the people that will end up being hurt are all of us in the middle-class that will no longer be able to get loans for school, homes, cars. Prices for EVERYTHING will go up as merchants struggle to make ends meet and the average person will no longer be able to afford any semblance of a normal lifestyle. Talk to anyone that had to survive during the great depression- being homeless, hungry and jobless is no fun. If this bailout doesn't pass, America's economy will be in the toilet, people will continue to lose their homes, savings and retirements as the banks and stock markets fail.

We are not stupid enough to think that we don't have to do something. However, we will not be rushed into a bill that makes the socialists owners of our financial system. When the government takes over insurance companies and when we bail out corporations, you then become owners of those corporations. You get to manage our financial system. Sorry, we aren't as stupid as the dem/lib/socialist/communists thought we were. Vote for this bill and you will find yourself OUT OF A JOB!!!

Clearly the people who want a no vote on this bill have never taken a basic economics class. The end result of this bill is not to bailout the rich, it is to protect your jobs. For example: If you work for a construction company, likely your job will be at risk if this doesn't pass. A construction company needs to borrow $ for its projects. If it can't borrow the money because of the credit freeze or if the cost to borrow is too high, the company won't be able to do the projects and the construction worker gets laid off. So you won't have to worry about paying more taxes, since you won't have any income. Those of you who want to buy a home - the cost to borrow will be significantly higher - interest rates have already shot up (9% on a jumbo yesterday). So your taxes may be lower, but your house payment (assuming you can even get the loan) will be a lot higher. Definitely agree with the writer before me - the article was written by a non-thinker.

On the contrary, I have a degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting. I certainly have taken classes in Micro and Macroeconomics. Please tell me what part of this bail out has anything to do with bailing you and I out of anything? The facts are that most of this bail out has to do with paying foreign debt.

A friend of mine has told me that the dem/libs are calling our Republican house members and senators to tell them that we want this bailout. They are pretending to be Republicans. We need to call again to let them know we do not want to give our financial industry to the dem/lib/socialist/communists.
Reply
The dem/lib/socialist/communists only use the term "bipartisan" when it means voting their way. Nancy Pelosi didn't have the votes to get this bill passed by the democrats. Too many democrats are up for re-election. For that reason the dem/lib/socialist/communists announced that they want a "bipartisan" vote. In other words, let the Republicans get thrown out of office, and take the blame for this bill not passing. Our republican house members didn't vote for this bill because it is BAD LAW and because we're in this predicament because of two other BAD LAWS passed by this dem/lib/socialist/communist party. The first bill was the "Community Reinvestment Act" passed in the second year of Clinton's presidency. It created a law that FORCED the banks and mortgage companies to loan monies to people who could not have possibly paid a mortgage or even have gotten one without help. It was a BAD LAW then, and look where it has lead us. Then the Serbane's Oxley law, written in response to the Enron debacle...which has given us this credit bunch up. Both of these were insisted upon and passed by the democrat/socialist/communist/liberals.
Why should we, the taxpayers, pay the cost of all the morgages that tanked? If a mortgage company or a business took on too many, then let them go bankrupt, just as any other business would.
We can reassure the main street by raising the insurance limits on the FDIC. And we can help the market by lifting Serbanes-Oxley for awhile. Nothing is going to make us be completely okay, but at least we'll weather it and our economy will survive and we won't end up a communist/socialist economy. We are free market capitalists and our economy has always been stronger than any others. Don't do to us what has been done in other countries by passing something that gives the socialists control of our country in every way, including our entire financial system. -

I blame the American People for allowing the stupidity to get to this point.
Most are much more worried about getting a zinger in than facing any issues.
Did you read the first bill? ...the one Bush just sprung out of nowhere.
That's Leadership...He just wanted everyone to sign a blank check and forget about it.
Wanted to make it a law that you couldn't question how they spent it.
No more going to Congress for money to fight Wars then.
If you don't know what that is from the description then I suggest you hit the history books.
Wake up!!!
Your anger has blinded you.
Worst thing ever...What if the bailout causes real instability?
What if it crashes the economy? If it doesn't work a bigger one is coming.
How many more trillions next time?

Let's see. Blame the Democrats. Think not. Republicans controlled Congress for 12 out of the past 14 years. Couldn't they get something done during that time? Perhaps they aren't on the same page. Manyare saying McCain tried to prevent this years ago, well, what happened? His own party wouldn't go along with him? Well, kiss my butt. Can't believe it. The latest was supposed to be bipartisan so as neither party would have to take the full brunt from constituents. Pass the blame around. But the Republicans decided to take a hike and watch the economy continue to spiral down. Good luck to all who enjoy watching this country crumble. And, more importantly, don't be complaining when economic times go way south.
