New Bible to Be Handwritten by 31,000 Americans »
Posted By txclimber 9 months, 1 week ago in ReligionA Christian book publisher says its next edition of the Bible will be handwritten by more than 31,000 Americans. Zondervan, located in Grand Rapids, MI, kicked off a 90-city, 15,000-mile cross-country tour Tuesday to mark the 30th anniversary of its popular New International Version translation of the book. The tour will stop at special events, churches and U.S. landmarks to allow people to write out Bible verses. I always thought the Chrisitain needed their own Bible. The Jews wrote the present day Bible and made themselves the good guys.

Hubert - You apparently no little about the Bible or Christianity. To make a statement that you "think that Christian's need their own Bible" is pretty ridiculous. Who do you think the Bible belongs to? Are you stating that the entire Bible belongs to the Jews so somehow Christians shouldn't use it? Secondly, the Jewish people do not believe that the New Testament is part of the Bible. They only use the old Testament. Thus, the reason the Jews don't believe that Jesus is the son of God. I'm not even sure I have a clue what you're talking about with the statement "So many Americans quote the Bible that was written by the Jews". Yep. And so do Germans quote the same bible and Italians, etc. I don't even know what point you're trying to make with that.

"THE JEWS" as you put it, did not write the Bible. It was given by G/d. Did you know that Jesus was born a "JEW", lived his life as a "JEW" and died as a "JEW"? It was Peter who started the religion after Jesus died. So if you so much dont like the "JEWS", you might as well not like Jesus.

The Bible speaks of false prophets that will arise during his earth's final days. ONLY with thine eyes will you behold the reward of the wicked.....I think people have taken their wicked ways too far, they have allowed the devil to completely distort their minds. NOW THEY WANT TO REWRITE GOD'S WORD! Their END will be VERY DARK!

You seem to have a little Anti-Semitic problem. Maybe you should word yourself more carefully, unless you're just an idiot. Apparently you don't realize that Christians ARE Jews. Christianity is a religion of belief that Jewish prophesy of a Messiah has already been fulfilled. Modern Judaism is a belief that Jewish prophesy has not yet been fulfilled.

If you people were truely Christians, you would remember not to judge. All people are equal under the eye of the Lord. Stop Judging. The bible was written and is the history of that period. You need to have a relationship with the Lord to do the right things. I don't think the bible should be re-written...

TO EVERYONE WHO THINKS THAT THEY ARE WRITING A NEW VERSION OF THE BIBLE, please re-read the article!!! They are only COPYING the verses of the NIV version and making a hand-written copy of the NIV version of the Bible. Several people have commented that this is the case, but a lot of people still aren't getting it!! Tha article should have said that they are publishing a new edition, not a new version.

Forget the bible. It is superstition, myth and lies.God would not embrase the idea that one person is better than another person.Faith is believing in something you know is not true. They taught you in school that truth is backed by evidense, facts and witnesses, none of which are supporting the bible. The bible is a book of fiction and superstition. If we keep supporting this teaching ,we will soon loose our freedom.

I agree completely. I myself am a Christian and am saddened by the fact that so many of my fellow brothers and sisters don't know their history. To even truly understand Christianity, you must first dive into the depths of Judaism. You'd think people wouldn't have a problem with this as Jesus was a Jew! However, some people seem to want to cut you down over the Crucifixion. On their behalf, I apologize. The problem is, even Jesus forgave the specific people who crucified him. Therefore, we should also. =0)
And as for the bible being handwritten, they're only allowing them to re-write versus provided to them so that its appeal is more real, rather than computer generated. I think that's kind of cool! Now if it were allowing whoever to write whatever, I'd think we'd have some serious issues on our hands! -

Umm. Yes the Old Testament was written by the Jews in Hebrew. The New Testament was written by the "Christians" or the followers of Jesus, after he died. The New Testament was written mostly in Greek. Several years after it was written, the Catholic Priest decided what books should go into the Bible. Even today the Catholics have a different Bible than Mainstream Christianity. (No I am not Catholic but I have Catholic friends, and I summarized the several hours of conversations we had.)

I am sure you know by now, that they are not writing a "New" Bible, but handwriting the Bible that exists - NIV version. Each person will be allowed to copy by hand a verse from the NIV Bible and Zondervan will publish this Bible. The Bible that exists today is for Christians and a new one is not needed.

"The Jews" did not "write" the entire Bible, nor did they "write" the entire Old Testement, they use the first five books of the Old Testement in their Torah, the ones believed to be the word of God as He revealed it to Moses. The rest was put together from various sources by Christians probably a little over a thousand years ago. There are no good or bad guys in the Bible as far as the humans are concerned, the only "good" or "bad" would be God and Satan. Why must people always be so nasty and ignorant when it comes to religion? If you call yourself a Christian, then you need to try to be Christ-like (hence the name Christian) and not be judgemental or nasty against other people. He believed in educating oneself in the word of God, also, by the way. He was also born, lived and died as a Jew and interceded for their forgiveness from God as one of His last acts before dying.

Someone should explain the purpose of a "new Bible" being written. For those who follow the bible of the ages; is there suddenly the need for a new bible> Christians believe that the current bible was written under the power of the Holy Spirit of the Almighty God. Whose power & influence will this new bible be written under. Hopefully there is more to this story, otherwise I am confused.

Lakerman -- They aren't re-writing the Bible. It will wind up being a handwritten Bible with each person copying a verse of the Bible. The word "new" is a bit confusing. It makes it sound like someone is coming up with a new version and that is not the case at all.

you do of course realize that the king james version is not the original writing of the bible, it is just that , a version. it was written so that king james could read his own bible instead of his scolars having to interpet it from the original hebrew that it was written in. much like the NIV was written so modern people could better understand.

The last verse in the Bible, to not add or take away anything from this book, does NOT refer to the entire New Testament nor to the Old Testament. It refers strictly to the Book of Revelation. There was no New Testament until the 4th century AD. In addition, several of the books of the New Testament were written AFTER the Book of Revelation was written. I'm not in favor of revising the Bible but stop misquoting scriptures that don't apply to your point.

Reply
2) Why does anyone care about a group of people writing... or re writing the Bible? Wasn't the original version written by a group of people?-

vandeewine9 months, 1 week ago
Yes, it was. The supposed "Word of God" was written by PEOPLE, not God. Their NAMES are on the books themselves. Book of John? Written by John, not God. Same with Matthew, Mark, Luke and all the other books with the author's names on them. And that doesn't even include the members of the Catholic church who assembled and edited the books of the Bible in the late 400's, choosing which books to put in, which to leave out and which ones to re-interpret as they saw fit, i.e. that meshed with their world view and was consistent with what they wanted people to think and do.
Reply
It's a complete sham and to call it "The Word of God" is insulting. It's the word of humans, make no mistake -- humans who were in power and interested in keeping other humans who weren't in power under their thumb.
Thus, it's appropriately ironic that this new version will be "written" by humans... because that's the way it all started anyway.

I think it's important to note that the term "inspired by God" should be taken with a grain of salt. After all, the 19 men who rammed our jetliners into the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon were also "inspired by God".

You are right, I don't REALLY know if things happened the way they said in the Bible because I wasn't there to see it. But, this is where the term "faith" comes into play. I believe in God, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I would rather believe every word the Bible says than to suffer the consequences when Jesus comes again. If it ends up not being true, I haven't lost anything. If it is true, I will live in eternity. I choose to except that Jesus died for our sins and we should try to live the best life we can while we are here. We make our own decisions in what we believe, and we will suffer the consequences of those decisions.

Your comment about Jesus and God being created to explain the unexplainable may be politically correct, the problem is that 1 nano second after you die, you will be overwhelming remorsefull that you felt that way - for ever and ever and ever and ever and ever - with no hope of ever correcting the situation and no hope of anykind of death that would end the miserisy. You may consider doing some serious study work on the historical aspects of Jesus so you don't end up in hell out of ignorance.

You have the right to believe or not believe. However, just being a good person doesn't mean that, come judgement day (and I happen to believe that there WILL be) it doesn't excuse you for having no faith.
Don't be so quick to judge those who choose to have faith. In the end, it will be you who can't take back the hateful words and recommendations to "Burn the Bible".... And yes, God loves everyone, but if you don't live with Him in your heart, you condemn yourself.... I don't expect you to understand this, since you obviously don't read the Bible. It's probably because you don't understand it. -

who became CHRISTIAN (by re-birth). There is room for personal interpretation as GOD said of HIMSELF "I AM" That leaves room for GOD to be whatever you need him to be at any point in your life. Read and understand the "names of GOD'. Please stop misquoting "judge not lest you be judged". I have done an exhaustive study on that and I have few who understand what it is really saying and I won't go into it because I doubt any here would grasp it either. Before embarking on a re-write of the Holy Scriptures perhaps one should read what they actually say. Here are some key scriptures from the "Old" and "New" books you may want to consider to both Jews and Christians. From the Hebrew Scriptures Malachi 3:6 says "For I am Jehovah, I have not changed". If God has not changed, why would we feel it necessary to make any sort of change in his word. He expects the same of us that he has expected from his followers since the beginning of time. One of the last set of scriptures in the Bible at Revelation 22:16-20 states "I, Jesus, have sent my angel to you to tell the churches all these things. I am both David's root (who, by the way was a Jew) and his Descendant. I am the bright Morning Star. Let each one who hears them say the same, "Come, Let the thirsty one come - anyone who wants to; let him come and drink the Water of Life without charge. And I solemnly declare TO EVERYONE WHO READS THIS BOOK, IF ANYONE ADDS ANYTHING TO WHAT IS WRITTEN HERE, GOD SHALL ADD TO HIM THE PLAGUES DESCRIBED IN THIS BOOK. AND IF ANYONE SUBTRACTS ANY PART OF THESE PROPHECIES, GOD SHALL TAKE AWAY HIS SHARE IN THE TREE OF LIFE AND IN THE HOLY CITY AS DESCRIBED"

While reading through many of these comments, I felt that the entire point of the fact that the "oracles of God " or, "the very words of God" were entrusted to the Jews according to Romans 3:2, was missed. Salvation is from the Jews according to John 3:22. Myriads ( tens of thousands) believed Yeshua ( Jesus Hebrew name) is Messiah, and they were all Jews.( Acts 21:20). Perhaps the Christians need to re-examine the Scriptures in the Hebraic context in which is was spoken, and come to know Yeshua as who He is, King of the Jews. Early believers were all part of Judaism, not separate from it or opposed to it.

What I don't get is how people who don't know there bible or history always hate on the Jews. Jesus purpose was to come to this earth and die for our sins. He was the sacrificial lamb, if he didn't fulfill his purpose there would be no Christianity. Really in all actually Christians are just for lack of a better descriptive word "a different denomination of Judaism". Our religion was born from Judaism, Jesus was a Jew!
