A Facebook group formed for those opposed to the site's new design is nearing 2.7 million supporters, and the leaders are organizing a two-day boycott to bring their point across.

The group, called "1,000,000 against the new Facebook layout," has greatly exceeded the expectations in its title and is encouraging its supporters to stay off Facebook during the weekend of Oct. 18 and Oct. 19.

They should stay calm, much like the serene atmosphere on this site when Propeller's design changed to its present form. ;)

Well, that is true but I do think the facebook new design is pretty annoying...
It took me a lot of time to find the groups I am active in, for example

Nobody likes change but we all just have to learn to adapt.

There's an obvious parallel with what happened at propeller, though we're a slightly smaller crowd - and were even before the "changes"!
I know nothing about facebook, other than that it exists - and what I read in the story here, of which the only detail that stood out is that they have 100,000,000 members. That's quite a lot.
Regarding the instituting of CHANGES here there was a different dynamic here, in that there was some discussion ahead of time and even considerable reassurance that, if we managed to survive that HORRENDOUS period when propeller scarcely functioned at all, we would enter the promised land where all the rewards that we could wish for would manifest..I thought I already had a firm booking for the dancing girls - at least virtually - and that nectar would pour from the screen and refreshing glasses of Dom Perignon would be delivered for the celebration.
What actually happened was more like the proverbial meeting of sh.. and fan AND it rapidly became abundantly clear that many of our scout and anchor friends had also been completely blindsided by what actually emerged from the swamp as a strange simulation of the anticipated "new" propeller. After which I believe that most of us who stayed aboard did so out of loyalty to our Friends, who frequently also included members of the administration.
So here we still are - with most of the strictly functional aspects running pretty smoothly these days and with many friends still here and enough quality stories to keep us more-or-less satisfied BUT grievously missing some of the best and the brightest who are probably lost and gone forever [many without even a goodbye - sniff!] and a greatly reduced traffic on even the most popular stories. Quantity is not everything but it is more than sad to sometimes be all alone on an excellent story.
Personally speaking I find that I'm much less cheerful with propeller these days and have many more "cranky" moments.. I sometimes feel lucky that I still have an intact screen, with all the virtual bricks that I have hurled at the obnoxious mr propellerhead! He's immune to them and ignores snarls and curses too.
I'm not planning to vanish any time soon - most days I don't get to practice my English except in e-mails and with my nearest and dearest and I NEED the to-and-fro of discussion, controversy and the new thoughts and ideas that sometimes float through the ether as positive jewels to brighten of the morning or opium of the insomniac wee hours. But I'm also rubbing my hands together and thinking of ways to be an agent of change.. Which of course completes the circle because maybe some of you would be horrified by MY changes too!!

Grow up and get over it people. Have you nothing better to get your panties in a wad over? How about the economy?

I never use Facebook, except to contact some school friends, so I really don't care. As long as I still have my election projection still on my page, I'm content.

The new format is just fine once you get used to it.
