Obama: ACORN, Obama and the Mortgage Mess »
Posted By JaimieM 1 year, 2 months ago in News"ACORN stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, a busy hive of left-wing agitation and "direct action" that claims chapters in 50 cities and 100,000 dues-paying members. ACORN is where Sixties leftovers who couldn't get tenure at universities wound up. That the bill-writing Democrats remembered their pet clients during such an emergency speaks volumes. This attempted gift to ACORN (stripped out of the bill after outraged howls from Republicans) demonstrates how little Democrats understand about what caused the mess we're in."

Talk about speaking volumes by actions, "The financial markets were teetering on the edge of an abyss last week. The secretary of the Treasury was literally on his knees begging the speaker of the House not to sabotage the bailout bill. The crash of falling banks made the earth tremble. The Republican presidential candidate suspended his campaign to deal with the crisis. And amid all this, the Democrats in Congress managed to find time to slip language into the bailout legislation that would provide a dandy little slush fund for ACORN."

"The ACORN workers told state investigators that they went to the Seattle public library, sat at a table and filled out the voter registration forms. They made up names, addresses, and Social Security numbers and in some cases plucked names from the phone book. One worker said it was a lot of hard work making up all those names and another said he would sit at home, smoke marijuana and fill out the forms."

ACORN does many things under the umbrella of "community organizing." They agitate for higher minimum wages, attempt to thwart school reform, try to unionize welfare workers (that is, those welfare recipients who are obliged to work in exchange for benefits) and organize voter registration efforts (always for Democrats, of course). Because they are on the side of righteousness and justice, they aren't especially fastidious about their methods. In 2006, for example, ACORN registered 1,800 new voters in Washington. The only trouble was, with the exception of six, all of the names submitted were fake. The secretary of state called it the "worst case of election fraud in our state's history."

Once again, this calls into question why Barack Obama pays ACORN for his GOTV efforts.

With criminal investigations underway in several states and now hopefully a federal investigation about to start, Obama shows extremely poor judgment in associating himself with such fraud — as well as paying $800,000 to fund it, unwittingly or not.
As President, he would have the responsibility for enforcing voter-fraud laws. This doesn’t give much indication that he’d act to do so. So much for being a reformer.

ACORN recognized very early the opportunity presented by the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) of 1977. As Stanley Kurtz has reported, ACORN proudly touted "affirmative action" lending and pressured banks to make subprime loans. Madeline Talbott, a Chicago ACORN leader, boasted of "dragging banks kicking and screaming" into dubious loans. And, as Sol Stern reported in City Journal, ACORN also found a remunerative niche as an "advisor" to banks seeking regulatory approval. "Thus we have J.P. Morgan & Co., the legatee of the man who once symbolized for many all that was supposedly evil about American capitalism, suddenly donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to ACORN." Is this a great country or what? As conservative community activist Robert Woodson put it, "The same corporations that pay ransom to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton pay ransom to ACORN." -

why oh why are you beating up on a poor little community organization like ACORN?

i've noticed something. for years and years, the lib left would whimper about how the 'rightards' had all the media outlets eating out of their hands. this election cycle, the most pernicious polspeak comes from those leftielibs. its like they've ditched the airwaves (except for nutbar channels like MSNBC and the stealth lefty NBC, CBS and ABC) for the internet. i mean, look at "Air America." out of business, yet the left Hollywood cognoscenti like Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Matt Damon and the rest of the left zombies, march blindly onward. have they been chip implanted? its the only thing that i can think of...
its sure not because they have any real rational advantage. the dems, as a party want to win, but their plan is straight out of the 1970s. they've abandoned economics. they've abandoned free trade. they argue that Milton Friedman should be stripped of his Nobel Prize. they argue that regulation is good. that big government is 'where its at.'
you know what? i think i'd rather vote for one of those flesh eating zombies from a Roger Corman flick. at least a zombie knows what it wants. -

Here's a synopsis of some of the different cases against ACORN, just in this election season alone. These are not isolated incidents. Now as you read of these incidents remember, please, that during Obama's days as a community organizer he was deeply involved with ACORN. That ought to set of some alarm bells with the media ... ought to, but it won't.

New Mexico
Sept. 18, 2008, Judicial Watch Blog
This week officials in New Mexico's most populous county (Bernalillo) notified federal authorities that more than 1,000 fraudulent voter registration cards were submitted to the clerk's office. ACORN, which pays workers for each registration, is the prime suspect since it has handled thousands of new voter registrations in New Mexico since January. County workers subsequently discovered that at least 1,100 new registrations list Social Security numbers for people already in the county's database of registered voters, names of registered voters with different birth dates and addresses that don't exist.
Ohio
August 27, 2008, The Plain Dealer
A national organization that conducts voter registration drives for low-income people has curtailed its push in Cuyahoga County after the Board of Elections accused its workers of submitting fraudulent registration cards. Board employees said ACORN workers often handed in the same name on a number of voter registration cards, but showing that person living at different addresses. Other times, cards had the same name listed, but a different date of birth. Still another sign of possible fraud showed a number of people living at an address that turned out to be a restaurant. ACORN has submitted about 75,000 voter registration cards to the Cuyahoga board this year.
Pennsylvania
Sept. 18, 2008, The Bulletin: Philadelphia's Family Newspaper
A community organization, with longstanding ties to Barack Obama, has, according to numerous reports, repeatedly run afoul of voter registration laws both locally and nationally. Philadelphia election officials recently accused ACORN, of filing multiple fraudulent voter registrations during the 2008 Pennsylvania primary. The case has been referred to the U.S. Attorney's office, according to Philadelphia Deputy Election Commissioner Fred Voight. Delaware County election officials have made similar allegations against the group, and criminal indictments are pending. This past July 24, Dauphin County detectives offered a $2,000 reward for information about the whereabouts of Luis R. Torres-Serrano, an ACORN worker, who was accused of submitting more than 100 fraudulent voter registrations.-

This reminds me of many 3rd world countries while I have worked as a Nurse. The use of the identity of the dead, also multiple votes, and voting in multiple places is practiced often. I am very concerned about all of this, there must be a 'sinister reason to want to WIN THE WHITE HOUSE THIS WAY'.

Criminal investigations could be launched against at least six voter registration workers who tried to add dead, imprisoned or imaginary people to the voter rolls, according to the Milwaukee Election Commission and the organization that employed them. "One woman called us to complain because her husband has been dead for 10 years and a voter registration was submitted," Edman said. In about 12 cases, deputy registrars paid by ACORN were "making people up or registering people that were still in prison," said Carolyn Castore, ACORN's state political director. And in other cases, workers used the same address for numerous voters or used driver's license numbers that did not fit the voters' birth dates, Edman said. But most of the fraud involved submitting duplicate cards for voters who were already registered, and forging the voters' signatures, Castore said. -

A Florida state attorney is investigating thousands of potentially fraudulent voter registrations associated with the leading organizer of Florida's Amendment 5 ballot initiative. But this is just the tip of an iceberg of illegalities, fraud and contradictions connected to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) ... Former ACORN Miami-Dade field director Mac Stuart has declared an intent to sue ACORN and has made charges of rampant voter fraud operations. Stuart was employed and specifically tasked by ACORN to generate 103,000 new voter registrations from Dade County. He reports that ACORN threw out Republican registrations while paying for Democratic ones. Stuart also charges that ACORN targeted ex-cons and that he personally set up registration tables outside the Miami police department and Dade County jail. -

These crimes and frauds committed by ACORN explain why they are so devastatingly desperate to get Obama elected - at any cost. If that fails, the deck of cards they have built will start to crumble now that the light of day has been shined on their fraud against the entire country.

So a little non-profit organization that gets housing for poor people is to blame for all the bad loans nationwide. Tell me that people are really not stupid enough to believe this? You really think that banks everywhere invented the 40 year mortgage, the interest-only loan and ARMs with outrageous interest because of one little non-profit? That's sick. Perhaps you should be looking at the greed of the people writing the loans. I think their motives are more than a little apparent.

KRQE: ACORN Hiring Criminals to Register Voters in NM
Reply
KRQE (Albuquerque), 8/7/08
Albuquerque, NM – Last night KRQE Channel 13 aired a story from reporter Michael Herzenberg about ACORN’s hiring of criminals to conduct voter registration in New Mexico.
Here is some more information on ACORN:
In 2004, an ACORN employee, Christina Gonzales, registered a 13 year old and 15 year old boy to vote in Albuquerque, and the leader of ACORN in New Mexico, Matthew Henderson pleaded fifth, on his lawyer’s advice, when asked about the group’s handling of voter registration forms in a court case prior to Election Day. (Shea Andersen, “More Glare On Voter Sign-Ups,” Albuquerque Tribune, 8/25/04; Andy Lenderman, “Fight Over Voter ID Heats Up,” Albuquerque Journal, 9/19/04)
In addition, completed and fraudulent forms were found in an Albuquerque home during a police drug bust at the home of a foreign national who worked for ACORN. (“Albuquerque Police Find Voter Registration Forms At Albuquerque Apartment,” The Associated Press, 10/16/04)
And, Ingrid Bober, an Albuquerque Republican, registered to vote with an ACORN employee that year, who joked about her party affiliation when she handed him her completed form; lo and behold, when Bober tried to vote early prior to Election Day, her name was not found on the voter list and no form had been turned in for her. (Dan McKay and Andy Lenderman, “County’s Early-Polling Places ‘Slammed’ With Voters, Calls,” Albuquerque Journal, 10/19/04)
Examples such as these are prevalent not only in New Mexico, but throughout the nation. ACORN is also supposed to be a non-partisan, tax-exempt organization, although the House Committee on Economic and Educational Opportunities cited evidence of misappropriation of funds by ACORN Housing Corp. in 1997, for engaging in partisan political activity.
In 2006, a former ACORN worker in Missouri said that he was fired because, in addition to registering voters, he would not door-knock for Democratic senatorial candidate Claire McCaskill and tell people to support her candidacy. (H.R. Rep. No. 104-875, at 68-69 (1997); ACORN and McCaskill, provided by http://www.pubdef.net (Oct. 4, 2006)
Just last year, felony criminal charges were filed against 7 employees and supervisors of ACORN in the state of Washington, of whom three pleaded guilty to fraudulently filling out 1,800 voter registration forms in 2006; this is in addition to a settlement in the state that says ACORN may be held criminally responsible if additional voter registration fraud occurs. (“Three plead guilty in fake voter scheme”, The Seattle Times, 10/30/07; (Keith Ervin, “Felony charges filed against 7 in state’s biggest case of voter-registration fraud,”, The Seattle Times, 07/26/07)

Here we go again. With messages to Congress running 100 ( at times 300) to 1 against the Great Scam Bailout, what part of NO don't they understand? In Obama's words "you can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig.

I read the bailout plan, all 110 pages. I told everyone of my representatives if they voted for it, I would vote them out of office. The American taxpayer is not going to foot this bill. The amount of Acorn/Dumbocrat Pet projects is unbelievable!
