Unless a major October surprise happens, i think its getting more and more safe to say that Obama is going to win. He now has large leads in Ohio, Florida Pennsylvania, on top of moderate leads in Virginia and North Carolina
Reply
I've been playing around with the electoral college maps, and from what i have seen, as long as Obama wins the states Kerry won(which is all but assured)he only needs to win 2 of the states i listed above, and since PA is most definitely going to Obama, that leaves him at having to win just one state out of 4 left that he is leading in against McCain..
In short, Hello President Obama.-

Obama leading in Virginia, Missouri, Florida, Nevada and Minnesota.
I thought it was impossible, but this is approaching Clinton-esque proportions in the electoral college. -

I don't think we have taken the only pole which matters yet.
I know you want to think all is well for your guy. The reality is though that it's not.
I wouldn't worry to much about any big surprise in Oct. It's the one coming in Nov which spells doom for Barry

here are some interactive electoral college maps for anyone wanting to test out scenario's for how election day goes. They include most recent polling so you can start off with a pretty accurate basis, and then guesstimate from there.

That begs the question: Where does Diebold have the most machines? Which areas are most likely to not have enough voting machines to service the amount of voters?

my sense has been that obama will win with a healthy margin. the polls are underestimating the anger and therefore the participation of the great american public, many of whom have been disengaged from the electoral process. i think they are mad enough now to finally get off their behinds and do something about it. these new voters don't show up in "likely voter" polls.

I hope no one gets too complacent about PA, as there are several regions in which McCain still leads, including the Northeast, where Biden spent his childhood in Scranton:

No, I think Pennsylvania was always a mirage for the Republicans. Tack on 2% for the Obama ground-game in that state and another 2% for the base Democratic ground game there.
Reply
If you research 2004, you'll quickly notice Bush did better in PA then McCain is. He actually held the lead several times by this point, McCain has maybe once (if that).
Now Obama needs to finish breaking this sucker open by going onto the offensive in Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio and Florida (more then he already is). We are approaching 375 electoral votes if Obama can keep this national lead.

Well there you have it, the Quinnipiac Poll has Obama ahead of McCain by 8 points in Ohio. So using this example that would indicate that it's all over for McCain in Ohio, a key state. And the usual suspects pat each other on the back, saying nice find, good job, all the while ignoring the Rasmussen Poll and SurveyUSA both which has McCain ahead by one point. I think that all the polls are pretty much useless and only serve to bolster whichever group is ahead. They all ignore the racial factor. I don't know what's happening in my area, except to say it's highly blue collar, Democratic and if yard signs are any indication of the mood in this valley, then Obama's in trouble. Not one sign for him, many signs saying, "Democrats for McCain".
Reply
Now I don't know what makes the Quinnipiac Poll the mother of all polls and I must admit the economy has eroded some McCain support but after the day is done and a bailout deal struck in DC, will the economy still be such a pressing issue? Will the falling crude oil prices and the inevitable drop in gas prices just before the election blunt the economy issue? And then there's the elephant in the room, race and all it's ugly implications. So pat yourselves on the back, it's not over by any means, the Democrats should be leading 2-1 everywhere and such is not the case because the big dummies nominated an inexperienced extreme liberal with dubious credentials and friends you would not invite to dinner. Did I hear someone say, "where's Hillary?".-

I'll put this poll like this, in comparison to Rasmussen state by state:
Reply
Rasmussen appears to poll 500 people in the state.
Quinnipiac split this poll in half, pre and post debate. The pre-debate showed Obama holding a decent lead and was 1200 people. The second half was 800 people and showed an expanded Obama lead.
This is also a highly respected pollster. I don't dismiss Rasmussen polls, Gallup polls or any polls, anymore then I dismiss these polls. In fact, I think of this pollster akin to the same way I consider Rasmussen. This isn't some hack pollster like SUSA or ARG.
Not to mention that Rasmussen's showing an Obama lead in Virginia. Which isn't any better then an Obama lead in Ohio or Florida, for McCain. -

Obama spoke on the Senate floor today, & it took a lot of courage to do it. He stated the truth that the health of Wall Street isn't separate from the health of Main St., & everyone is going to have to contribute to get us back on track. He also said this current bill won't be enough to deal with our economic meltdown. Telling people what they don't want to hear is the sign of a leader, & not an appeaser. I expect the CONS to use this against him (of course). Now we'll see just how grown up Americans really are when the next round of polls comes out.

Harass Bush for when he knew of the economic problem. That is a big mistake not to ask "when he knew?" He sat up there on the televideo with his mom and dad in the audience and knew there was a big problem. He hid it for political reasons.
He had the sweet honey pouring out of his mouth with falsehoods about where he had led this country.
How un-American of Bush to do that. -

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT REMINDER OF EVENTS FROM HISTORY
A lot of Americans have become so insulated from reality that they imagine that America can suffer defeat without any inconvenience to themselves. Pause a moment, reflect back.
These events are actual events from history.. Do you remember?
1. 1968 Bobby Kennedy was shot and killed by a Muslim male extremist.
2. 1972 at the Munich Olympics, athletes were kidnapped and massacred by Muslim male extremists.
3. 1979, the US embassy in Iran was taken over by Muslim male extremists.
4. During the 1980's a number of Americans were kidnapped in Lebanon by Muslim male extremists.
5. 1983, the US Marine barracks in Beirut was blown up by Muslim male extremists.
6. 1985 the cruise ship Achille Lauro was hijacked and a 70 year old American passenger was murdered and thrown overboard in his wheelchair by Muslim male extremists.
7. 1985 TWA flight 847 was hijacked at Athens , and a US Navy diver trying to rescue passengers was murdered by Muslim male extremists.
8. 1988 , Pan Am Flight 103 was bombed by Muslim male extremists.
9. 1993 the World Trade Center was bombed the first time by Muslim male extremists.
10. 1998, the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed by Muslim male extremists.
11. 9/11/01, four airliners were hijacked; two were used as missiles to take down the World Trade Centers and of the remaining two, one crashed into the US Pentagon and the other was diverted and crashed by the passengers. Thousands were killed by Muslim male extremists.
12. 2002 the United States fought a war in Afghanistan against Muslim male extremists.
13. 2002 reporter Daniel Pearl was kidnapped and murdered by-- you guessed it-- Muslim male extremists.
According to The Book of Revelations: The Anti-Christ will be a man, in his 40s, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal....the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, he will destroy everything. And Now: For the award winning Act of Stupidity Of all times the People of America want to elect, to the most Powerful position on the face of the Planet -- The Presidency of the United states of America ... A Male of Muslim descent who is the most extremely liberal Senator in Congress (in other words an extremest) and in his 40s. Have the American People completely lost their Minds, or just their Power of Reason ??? I'm sorry but I refuse to take a chance on the 'unknown' candidate Obama... Let's send this to as many people as we can so that the people who want to thwart common sense, feel ashamed of themselves -- if they have any such sense. The writer of the award winning story 'Forrest Gump' so aptly put it, 'Stupid Is As Stupid Does'.-

Uhhh... the Bible has no book of Revelations. It has a book of Revelation, though. However, it does not say the Anti-Christ will be a man of Muslim descent and, in fact, the "beast" in that book seems to be referring to the Emperor Nero in a more historical context. Of course, its not an invalid interpretation that the Beast is an actual being that will come and Revelation is a prediction. But it still isn't a Muslim or of Muslim descent, either way. That's totally fabricated. In fact, the religion of Islam did not even come into being until after the writing of the book of Revelation. Remember, Judaism, then Christianity claimed to fulfill the coming of the Messiah through Jesus and then Islam said Jesus was a prophet but Muhammad was the final prophet, with the perfect word of God.
Reply
I fail to make the connection between Obama and all the Muslims it mentions in the beginning.
I'm sorry, but this is just one of many chain e-mails going around that is completely inaccurate and false in its statements pertaining to Barack Obama. Better off just attacking Barack Obama's record. Crap like the above just makes people dislike the Republicans more. It doesn't help McCain at all. In fact, it makes the Republicans look desperate. -

Hey House let me to continue your list:
Reply
14. 04.19.95 Oklahoma City bombers – Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols - Muslim male extremists.
15. 04.20.99 Columbine High School massacres Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold - Muslim male extremists
16. Unibomber Ted Kasunski - Muslim male extremist
17. Hitler and most of the germen at the time. They killed 6 millions of Jews so they were definitely Muslims!
Or, I’m sorry, maybe I’m wrong, they weren’t Muslims at all?
But, you know; besides Jews Hitler killed a lot of idiots, but unfortunately some of them have survived. -

HouseMD represents the ignorant racist base of the republican evangelical inbred tent revival snake handling morons who have destroyed the economy, voted twice for the worst facist incompetent regime ever in the history of the country.
Reply
Its almost impossible to have a democracy with so many mal-educated ignorant psychopathic morons who are proud of their ignorance and racism, but that is the reality of the GOP. Ignorant and proud of it. They are represented well with the Brittany Spears vice presidential nominee, the most unqualified evangelical book burning creationist moron ever nominated for that position by the most senile super senior grandpa cowboy ever nominated by the most corrupt regime ever.....the GOP.

So let me get this straight first McBush states that the economy is fundamentally sound then he declares that the country’s economy is the most serious crisis since World War II. He then announces that he will not support a bailout of AIG but then miraculously he decides to support it after all. He then makes the ultimate sacrifice to suspend his campaign as well as the debate to go back to Washington and save the day it was heart warming to watch McBush take credit for being instrumental in passing a bailout bill that NEVER passed, I could go on and on as to the many virtues of McBush. This man flip flops more than a damm dolphin to say that he is disingenuous, calculating and dishonest is an understatement. This man is so desperate to become President that there is nothing he will not do or say to make that happen, Is this the kind of individual that America really wants to lead their country? haven’t you idiots had enough pain already?
Reply
For all of you racists who would rather see your country go down the toilet than vote in the right man for the job based not on the color of his skin but by the content of his character then you deserve what the HELL YOU GET. The fact that McBush was a POW doesn’t make him a war hero it makes him incompetent. I look forward to the McBush/Palin show because every time she opens her mouth you realize that she doesn’t have a clue. On November 3rd when President Barak Obama wins by a landslide only then will McBush and his cronies realize that that never had a chance because the Obama locomotive derailed the McBush express. -

Anything that generates complacency among Democrats is a very dangerous thing! This will be a very close election regardless of what the polls say. No way does Obama win in the Deep South. Nothing. Nor does he win in the Midwest. The results of the past two elections should be enough to mobilize the masses. Without a doubt IMO the single most important election in our history. The very future of America is at stake. Not that I believe Obama to be a savior of any sort and whoever is elected is inheriting a colossal mess but change is the best hope for America. The policies of the past have failed us completely. We need new thinking, idealism, progressive thought (dare I say) and the acceptance that the future of America requires the breakup of the good ol' boy network that has dominated this country far too long. McCain is a representative of that network, not separate from it. Obama is young enough (and perhaps naive enough) that he has not been poisoned as would a so-called "experienced" politician. The experience factor is way overblown,(see i.e. James Buchanan). No one (save perhaps J. Carter or Andrew Johnson) entered the presidency with less of an idea of what was required than GW Bush. The results have been devastating. Massive debt and deficit and the ill advised default to an idealogical cabal of our foreign policy. Things will only get worse with a continuance of such policies.

Media needs to be fair. Its pretty obvious that they've been brandishing democrat propaganda way way more than that of republicans. Media should be fair in playing both sides and they should not present their own candidate. I guess we need to step out of these tv and internet boxes and after gathering candidates worth', we should not rely on media but decide on ourselves and not somebody else's opinion. I hope media wasn't promised something when a particular candidate won. Media is still a multibillion dollar industry and we always forget that.

Watch the media hail Sarah Palin tonight. All of the media. Before her speech to the white sheeted crowd in St. Paul they previewed her speech by expecting her to "hit it out of the park". Never mind that her "it" was as vague and superficial as possible, undefinable. No matter what Biden says she will rule the night tonight. They will never address each other directly on the issues. Yet I don't see where you teach someone a worldview in a few days. But the neo-conservative idealogy is relatively simple, "divide and conquer" basically covers that. "Us vs. Them", "everything is black or white", "with us or against us". Keep it simple and stupid. That is the neocon way.
Reply
Or maybe she can just use Richard Perle's words...I could hear her saying....
"If we just let our vision of the world go forth, and we embrace it entirely, and we don't try to piece together clever diplomacy but just wage a total war, our children will sing great songs about us years from now. "
That is the mantra she has been taught. No matter the language used to describe it. Yet think about what an utter failure that policy has been the last 7 years! Nearly destroyed America in its colonial ambitions. Forgetting all about the homeland. The death knell of many a great civilization.
