This was the Alaska governor's way of saying she was going to stick to the talking points she had stuffed into her head, no matter what the subject.

I'm encouraged to see the public more concerned about substance rather than personalities, in opposition to McCain's campaign manager's statement.

Say what you will about Joe Biden -- and last night, he was far from being either the gaffe machine or the windbag so many predicted would appear on stage -- no one loses sleep at the idea of his being in the Oval Office. Obama picked a vice president more likely to help him govern the country than win the chance to do so.
"As for McCain, he found himself in a political hole and threw the dice with Palin. At the time of her selection, voters were often compared with 'American Idol' watchers who put personality and stage presence above everything else. But it turns out that Americans take the presidency very seriously. And surviving 90 minutes on a stage with Biden did not transform Palin into a plausible president." -

Right, Bucotch. They wanted her to stick to answering the questions, but Palin said she was going to stick to the answers written down on her 3 x 5 cards, no matter what tricky questions Gwen Ifill asked. That way, she wouldn't get any more confused than she already is.

It was purely a grinfsck by both parties. We all knew goddamn well that they would gleefully murder each other if they could, but they grinned and showed their pearly whites and feigned friendship. This glaring dishonesty set the tone for the rest of the debate, in which BOTH candidates tended to duck uncomfortable questions and instead offer talking points.

Boos for Biden for his profession of undying love for McCain (get a room, you two!) and for Palin's fake folksiness and strange, almost dadaistic adoption of a Minnesota accent. Am I the only one to notice that she sounds like Frances McDormand in Fargo?
