Mrs. Palin...see you in 8 Years »
Posted By woodlawn_review 1 year, 2 months ago in Political NewsThe ' great' debate is over. For Sarah Palin, it was “ mission accomplished” . As a result of so many shocking missteps, the expectations were amazingly low and she surpassed those expections. All she needed to do was prove she could string together a coherent sentence. Good for you.

The problem was, all she had to do was not make a huge mistake. She didn't answer any questions that were posed to her. So, in that respect no, she didn't make any mistakes at all. She turned the entire debate toward Alaska, and directed every answer she gave toward some accomplishment she had in Alaska. Because quite frankly, all she knows diddly about is Alaska.

Sen. Biden, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, over 30 years in the Senate, including periods of tumultuous times in the Middle East, disclosed the following during the debate:
Reply
1. France and the US removed Hezbollah from Lebanon.
2. Hamas controls the West Bank.
3. He spoke out in favor of prohibiting terrorists from participating in West Bank elections.
4. He spoke out in favor of using NATO as a buffer in Southern Lebanon.
As any cursory search reveals, Hezbollah has never been removed from Lebanon, and Hamas controls Gaza. Fatah controls the West Bank. There is no record of points (3) and (4) above, and indeed, Biden refused to sign a letter asking Bush to pressure the Palestinians to keep terrorists organizations out of elections on the West Bank.
Yet liberals have the temerity to question Palin's grasp of issues? When Biden, who should be the most informed person on Capitol Hill, utters these inaccuracies? Concerning a MAJOR world hotspot?
Looks more to me that Biden's performance suggests early onset of Alzheimers. -

How nice of that Palin woman to say in the debate that she TOLERATES gay and lesbian people. This is a typical attitude of the extreme right wing fundamentalists, who do NOT believe in equal rights for all people. Lady, we do not want to be tolerated; we want to be ACCEPTED like everyone else. Imagine the fallout she would have caused if she had made that statement about any racial or religious minority group!

You're being too sensitive. To tolerate means that diverse persons or groups agree and/or cooperate in spite of existing differences. To accept implies that no differences exist in the first place. I think we can all agree that the GLBT community and the Christian community have substantial differences, and that tolerance is called for on both sides.
Reply
You may disagree of course. In which case, you put the GLBT community in the position of either reciprocating with acceptance of fundamental Christianity or providing a damn good reason not to. -

Apparently you weren’t paying attention as Palin and Biden stumbled and fumbled all over the “gay” question.
Bottom-line there both the same on this issue.
And move on. -

you can want to be accepted all you want, but, as long as some people believe that homosexuality is morally wrong, the best you can hope for from them is tolerance -- which is a damn sight better than intolerance.
Reply
We ALL want to be accepted as we are, but few of us have that luxury. There is something about every single person on this earth that makes at least some people wince and/or cringe. If those people are intolerant, they will make the person who has the attribute (whatever it is) life miserable. If they are tolerant, they'll shrug their shoulders and ignore it.
We are a diverse country with many diverse ideas, opinions and ways of doing things and living our lives. For one group, especially one who is more or less a fringe group to demand that everyone in society not only tolerate what they do and allow them to do it in peace, but to wholeheartedly EMBRACE their lifestyle is immature, selfish, naive, impossible, delusional and intolerant itself.
It is intolerant because YOU will not tolerate any other way than yours.
This is something that those on the right are frequently accused of, but those on the left -- so sure that they are totally and infallibly more enlightened than the rest of us -- frequently practice . And all the while they are accusing everyone else of intolerance.

Palin: " I'm thankful the Constitution would allow a bit more authority given to the vice president if that vice president so chose to exert it in working with the Senate and making sure that we are supportive of the president's policies and making sure too that our president understands what our strengths are."
Reply
And just moments later . . .
" Well, our founding fathers were very wise there in allowing through the Constitution much flexibility there in the office of the vice president. And we will do what is best for the American people in tapping into that position and ushering in an agenda that is supportive and cooperative with the president's agenda in that position."
She repeated herself so I cannot beleive she did not mispeak.
Is it really the vice president's job to Make sure that the senate supports the president's policies? I think not! The legislative (and judicial) branches were intended to be a check on the president's power, not a rubber stamp.
Also, "But even more important is that world view that I share with John McCain. That world view that says that America is a nation of exceptionalism."
http://www.debates.org/pages/trans2008b.html
Is she really embracing the idea that American's are somehow better than the rest of the world and, therefore, have a duty to improve it? This modern version of the "White Man's Burden" really grates me (and I would guess the rest of the world).
This woman is dangerous. Even if I had been inclined to vote for Mr. McCain this would have blown it for me.-

WHEN A PRESIDENT, OR PREMIER IMPOSES PLANS THE REPRESENTATIVES DISLIKE,SUBTLE FORCE BECOMES TOTALITARIANISM.
Reply
CONSTITUTIONAL ENTITIES (THE SUPREME COURT AND CONGRESS) WERE CREATED AS COUNTERWEIGHTS TO EXECUTIVE POWER. JEFFERSON AND OTHER FOUNDING FATHERS WERE AFRAID OF AUTHORITARIANISM WHICH PRODUCED KINGS AND DICTATORS.
I AM NOT INSIDE PALIN'S HEAD. YET, HER THIRD WORLD BACKGROUND AND SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS INDICATES SHE WELCOMES A DOMINAT EXECUTIVE. THAT IS NO LONGER A FREE REPUBLIC. -

I can't speak for the rest of the world, only for myself, but that statement about America as a nation of exceptionalism stuck out for me like a sore thumb. It evoked thoughts of all the treaties not signed by the US, all the treaties violated by the US, all the claims that the rules that govern the world do not apply to the US, the claim that the US has the right to "protect its interests" any time and anywhere it chooses no matter whose rights it violates, etc., etc.
You are asking whether she is really embracing that idea? I think she does. She is ready "to do God's work" come hell or high water.

VIOLENCE AND FORCE BEGET MORE OF THE SAME. SEE HOW THE OLD TESTAMENT GOD ORDERED WAR AGAINST ALL NON-BELIEVERS. ISLAM IS NOT THE ONLY WARLIKE DOGMA IN THE WORLD. AL QUEDA SEEMS TO BE AT THE STAGE THE SPANISH INQUISITION WAS. IT WILL TAKE ANOTHER CENTURY, OR TWO FOR WARRING MUSLIMS TO CALM DOWN.
Reply
CAN THE FREE WORLD SURVIVE FOR SO LONG? I DO NOT KNOW. IN FACT, THOUGH, TOUCHY OR OVERSENSITIVE RELIGIONS MUST NOT BE CHALLENGED, MUCH LESS INSULTED.
PALIN ALREADY HURT FOREIGN RELATIONS WHEN SHE SAID " WE WILL WIN THIS WAR."
I DOUBT SHE AND HER BOSS WILL.-

Amazing how she got her brains back last night. I'm thinking Palin did a type of rope-a-dope on the Obama supporters, just ACTING like she was brain-dead for a while so millions of Obama supporters would cheerfully watch with popcorn, pizza, and balloons ready to drop in their houses. Palin might have swallowed her pride and acted brain-dead just so all the Dems would watch her, thinking she'd go down in great humiliation to their happy, orgasmic delight. Instead, she became like Sampson bringing down the Temple on them. I bet there were a lot of angry, whiny sighs of "Oh, God" from the Libs, and sad, pained cries of "Why, Allah, WHY!?!" from the terrorists, as she came off like the intelligent girl who won my heart during her first appearance. Anyway, I thought Biden did well also. Too bad it's not Palin and Biden running against each other for President.
