Sen. Obama met Odinga once. He made a single, brief appearance with him in 2006, while in Kenya. He spoke to him on the phone once (for five minutes) earlier this year. There is no evidence that they are either relatives or friends:

The claims about their relationship mostly stem from a discredited email that has been circulating among conservatives. The notion that Odinga is Sen. Obama's cousin only surfaced after the disputed elections in 2007. The claim originated with Odinga himself, and was denied by the very Uncle through whom Odinga says he is related to Obama. Oddly enough, shortly before the election another Kenyan politician tried to make the same claim about his relation to Sen. Obama. Seems Odinga's not even an original liar.
There is no credible evidence that Sen. Obama ever "campaigned for" Odinga, nor that he supported him either monetarily or personally in any way.
Google "obama odinga" and what you come up with are a lot of conservative bloggers who are Obama detractors, along with a few poorly researched articles by media outlets. For example, a Reuters story that took Odinga's word that he was related to Sen. Obama without following up with any fact-checking.-

Yet less evidence than this is all liberals need to tie Bush to Osama bin Laden and lay 9/11 at Bush's feet.
