The way McCain speaks about him, I thought he was either the General's spokesperson or he's developing a crush...

This doesn't help McCain, but what does these days?

Senility has obviously set in. McCain will say anything and pander to what ever crowd he is in front of, to win. He obviously thinks that most Americans are dumber than dirt.

I’m beginning to agree with him.

Most of Petraeus' statements have favored Obama's positions.

          No surprise there.

The surprise is that Bush hasn't managed to fire him yet.

Look how many generals that Bush had to go through to get one to use the correct anti-insurgency strategy in Iraq - Medal winner Franks who had no plan for after taking Baghdad, torturing Sanchez and Casey. Odierno as a division commander was one of those guys who just did sweeps and anybody he picked up went to Abu Ghraib - he's definitely a Bush sycophant promoted for his thinking everybody was a terrorist!

Putting an admiral in charge of 2 ground wars was another Bush management failure and what good has naming another general to be the "War Czar" done! No wonder so much perpetual failure unaccompanied with the political success the surge was supposed to bring! Iraq can be a Shia'a theocracy tomorrow like Iran!

Petraeus just illustrates the deep distrust all the military has developed toward Bush in particular and the Repugs in general who wouldn't support the Webb GI bIll and won't permit our Sadam tortured soldiers to sue Iraq, while foreign companies have been allowed to do so! Body/HMMWV armor and MWRAP failures too!

Bush used Patraeus to support his "surge" policy. Afterwards Patraeus played nice and said "it's a success" and he was promptly promoted. It would be difficult for Bush to go against Patraeus after promoting him, but nothing surprises me after the last 8 years.

We have a really bad bunch of people running the country. Frankly, they are not patriots though they wear flag pins.

cape, it doesn't specifically and your ignorance is validated!

But, our gradual departure from Iraq will gradually allow more forces in Afganistan to be used as necessay against the real perpetrators of 911.... finally, Dumya's "cut and run" from Afghanistan will be reversed!

Operation Anaconda in Afghanistan failed due to resources already being dedicated to Iraq - Naylor wrote a great book on it, "NOT A GOOD DAY TO DIE". Anyway, like tora Bora Dumya let over 1200 taliban/Al Qaeda escape the Senikot valley to pakistan!

Heard on the CBC that Saudi, Afgan and the Taliban might hold peace talks in Mecca; now is that a slap in the face by Saudi on USA ?
They finance, support and some even flew the planes and now they may host peace talks; great allies.

Cut and run are YOUR terms..No one else has used them..
Joe McCarthy would be proud of you accusers.
The term is old and ignorant, bu8t only accepted by people who can't admit they have
no plan and are willing to leave troops in harm's way with no plan..
Wake up, for just one day, will ya?
(and when you do, will you stop hating people who are smarter and more honest than you)??

donald - Thanks for pointing out that Bush cut and ran out of Afghanistan.
What neocons fail to appreciate is that continuing the fight in Iraq and even achieving "victory" there (whatever that means to McCain) is really meaningless.
It is equivalent to making a slash on the dragon's tail.

To kill the dragon, you have to cut off its head. And that head happens to live in Afghanistan (or Pakistan). Ironically and appropriately enough, the dragon lives in a cave there (I think).

If my kids ever thought that I wanted to go off to Afghanistan to cut off Puff's head, they would disown me.
Thankfully I just have to go to Kauai to talk to Puff and give him a great big hug.
