Andrew Sullivan: Obama And Ayers: Why The Excuses? »
Posted By MyWayOnNow 1 year, 1 month ago in Political NewsA reader writes: I'm a liberal and a decided Obama voter. But Democrats' excuses for Obama with respect to Ayers are extremely annoying to me. I haven't seen in the press a clear explanation of why Obama attended an event at Ayers' home, or whether or not he knew about Ayers activities. But, if Obama didn't know that Ayers' was a terrorist, who is today largely unremorseful, then let him clearly tell us. If Obama knew Ayers was an unremorseful terrorist, then let him explain to us why he felt it was okay for him to call on Ayers at his home.

its an absurd non-issue,and any member of the media who furthers this rovian tactic has a special place in hell awaiting him....meanwhile-the palin's have a very current connection with a real radical group of today, and none of them discuss it. why ? because they are only reactive, not proactive as real journalists used to be

Why is it a non-issue? Do you think who his past political allies are is irrelevant? Do you think this shows his character? Afterall, don't we always tell our kids to pick your friends wisely?

If this is a non-issue, then why doesn't Senator Obama step up and explain - that would be the way to stop these attacks. When he refuses to discuss it, and threatens news media outlets if they dare to show any ads about this, then that fuels the fire.

Once again people need to start informing themselves regarding these issues. If you go to Wikipedia and type in Ayers you will read that by the time that Obama had anything to do with him it was because they were working together on the school system in Illinois. When Ayers was an active part of Weather Underground Obama was just a child. So if you have questions regarding campaign smears from either side, get informed with the facts.

What excuses are you talking about? This has been gone over and over for 2 years. He wasn't a bosom buddy, they were appointed to a board to hand out grant money to schools in Chicago. Ayers was and is a professor at the University of Chicago and is remorseful about the bombings although not his participation against the VietNam War and why should he be? And he hosted a fundraiser for Obama's first race, he hosted a lot of fundrasers for beginning politicians in Hyde Park. Who cares? Does that make all of them pals of a terrorist? And why should Obama have to explain this "radical tie" that wasn't for the 100th time because Palin acts like its just been unearthed? You want raidcal ties, look at Palin and Joe Vogler -- a lot more current than two decades ago or McCain and The U.S. Council On World Freedom. Google those names. McCain is a lying desperate old man and Palin hasn't said a true or intelligent word since he picked her. They've got gall though, for bringing old non-news up like this and hoping it'll stick with the racists and gullible.

FTA: "But, if Obama didn't know that Ayers' was a terrorist, who is today largely unremorseful, then let him clearly tell us."

He did. Charlie Gibson asked him yesterday and he stated clearly and categorically that he didn't know Ayers's past at the time of the fundraiser.
I've been thinking about this a lot. If I decided to run for political office, and one of my neighbors or casual acquaintances offered to host a fundraiser, would I check his/her whole life history before I accepted? Probably not. Would you? It's easy to judge from hindsight, but he probably didn't have either the time or the resources to check the background of all his acquaintances. If Bill Ayers is good enough to teach young people at a university, then he is good enough to be a casual acquaintance of anybody. -

The author needs to do some fact checking. Something that he obviously knows nothing about. How absurd is it to think that an 8 year old child would have been associated with a terrorist. There is no association other than that Obama and this man worked together. This person then gave $200 to his campaign? The fact that the idiots in the McCain campaign are using this is deplorable. What's even worse are the neocon sheeple that are believing this garbage.
