Comments for McCain Supporter Rants About "Hooligan" Obama And "Socialist" Takeover -- And McCain Agrees »

Posted By Wil 1 year, 2 months ago in Political News

When is the unhinged frenzy gripping crowds at McCain-Palin gatherings -- not to mention McCain-Palin's own role in stoking that frenzy -- going to become a big story?

Today in Wisconsin, a McCain supporter unleashed a long, unhinged rant in which he blasted the "socialists taking over our country" and referred to Obama and Nancy Pelosi as "hooligans." McCain didn't utter one syllable of objection. In fact, he nodded bemusedly at the "socialist" mention.

And at the end of the man's rant, McCain said that the man was "right."

1). your caps lock is stuck.

2). All you are actually doing with outbursts like this is lending credibility to the claim that McCain and his supporters are the lunatic fringe, So please feel free to keep going on like a nutboy and widening Obama's lead.

Do you notice how panicked this bunch of losers has become? It couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of cretins.

Oh please. Obama has been engaging in name calling from day one. He is always calling McCain unstable or the second Bush. Whether wrong or right, you should all stop whining.

McCain has demonstrated his instability in public. Flying off the handle into a rage at the least provokation, singing a little ditty about Bombing Iran (way to go with foreign relations - THAT'll make the Iranians want to listen).

And then he compares him to the President of the USA. Shouldn't that be a good thing? Isn't that a man who was voted into office twice? Whose father was also a US President? If you ask me, people shouldn't be upset that McCain is being compared to Bush, because the comparison, quite frankly, is extremely flattering to McCain.

Bush never demonstrated the recklessness, disregard for his colleagues, or insane temper that McCain does regularly.

I do wish you would get your facts straight. It was Romney who called McCain 'unstable'. Yes, Obama has said a McCain administration would be 4 more years of Bush policies, because McCain has yet to differentiate himself from Bush, other than claiming he's a 'maverick'.

In recent statements, Obama has referred to McCain's plan to buy bad mortgages as 'risky' and referred to McCain as 'erratic' and 'uncertain'. But this hasn't been going on 'from day one'.

Tangent - Thanks for bringing up McCain's plan for the government to buy up bad mortgages. That is one of the stupidest suggestions I have ever heard.

What that means is that we, the taxpayers, will have to buy up bad mortgages at full price to prop up failing banks and mortgage brokers. We will then own a bunch of devalued homes that will have to be sold. That means we will be able to sell these over-valued homes only for pennies on the dollar.

Who are the only people who can afford to buy this large number of inventory of excess homes? Why, the very same overpaid CEO's and the same banks that got propped up by us buying these worthless homes. These ultrarich executives and now cash-loaded banks just have to hang on to the properties for a few months to a couple of years and then sell the houses at a huge profit.

The CEO of Lehman Brothers for the last 10 years who drove that company into the ground got $300 million in salary and bonuses during his tenure. Is he hurting? Is he worried about his retirement? Is he cutting grocery coupons to save pennies?

No. He is praying for McCain to get elected and waiting for McCain to push thru the idea of the government buying up those bad mortgages. McCain is dangerous for America.

MTig - You are either lying or in a permanent state of denial.
Barack Obama has never engaged in the hateful name-calling that McCain & Palin have embarked on.

Obama has talked about McCain's age and his being out of touch with modern society.
But remember, McCain himself has said he is "older than dirt and has more scars than Frankenstein." And McCain always uses his age as the proof of his "greater experience."

Further, McCain has openly acknowledged he knows nothing about computers. His wife, Cindy, has to do his email for him.

I used to like the old McCain. He was a maverick from the Republican party. Kerry even considered him for running mate until Mccain turned him down.

I am thoroughly disappointed about the person McCain has devoved into now. He has had to tow the neoconservative/arch-Christian line. He was besmirched by Bush whose campaign falsely accused McCain of fathering a black child. In reality the McCains had simply adopted a Sri Lankan child. I repeat, I liked the old McCain.

It seems that McCain learned the wrong lesson from his past campaigns. He has learned that dirty politics is the way to win elections. Rather than elevating elections into a noble and necessary civic responsibility, he has turned into a cow-chip throwing contest.

From a maverick politician, he has turned into a smirky, sleazy, and mob-pandering demagogue. Years from now, if they make a movie of McCain's life, it will be a story of a political Greek tragedy of a good man succumbing to the lures of power, a hero being seduced by the dark side.

If I ran into a room and yelled, I am going to quit working until the national economy is fixed, people would expect me to put down my cell phone, my extraneous papers, and put aside partisan politics to complete the job of righting the economy. Instead, John McCain ran ads, kept his offices open and continued running his campaign, despite all his bluster to the contrary. If I did those things, I would be deemed unstable. Barack Obama was being kind when he called McCain erratic. I would use "unhinged, mentally unstable, morally bankrupt, and ideologically bankrupt." Thank goodness I am not in politics.

These rants reveal the vicious pettiness of McCain's core supporters. The Socialists are Coming! they scream even though it is clearly not so.

Calling for violence against and disenfranchisement of those with whom they imagine they disagree without actually taking time to evaluate alternatives.

It's all about creating mass hysteria akin to fans at a football game. There's often not much difference between the two teams but they will rabidly support their side as if the others are somehow evil.

I sure hope this isn't the ethic that continues to guide our nation over the next eight years.

Is it me or does the Republican party pander to the idiots in this country? This whole mess is Bush/McCain's fault and somehow, their constituents are either completely ignorant about what's gone on the past 8 years or they really, truly believe the lies their party tells them. When did the Republican party become a party of complete Morons?

Maybe you could explain just how this is Bush/McCains fault.
There has been ample proof put out that McCain warned the Congress two years ago and the Dems put him off as just attacking Freddie and Fannie for no reason. McCain warned them again this year and they ignored him again. Barney Frank is on tape several times telling the American people there was and is nothing wrong.

Why couldn't McBush get his fellow republicans to use their majority in congress to rein in the big bad Freddie and Fannie??

For one...the Republican are not a majority.
And as for the earlier warning...there were not enough republicans siting on the committee to move it through..It died in committee

There is a video out there probably on YouTube still
It shows the Dems in the committtee downplaying the problem...
How convienent that they did this just before an election year. Promising all those unqualified home owners there was no problem.

The republicans didn't hold any committee chairmanships (thus controlling what is considered in committees) 2006?? Didn't know that.

The Republicans WERE a majority for the last several years of the Clinton administration (veto proof, BTW), and for the first 6 years of the Bush administration.

The committee to which you refer DID have a Republican majority at the time. Besides, S.190 (the 'reform' bill McCain signed on to after it was doomed) would have given Mae and Mac access to MORE areas of residential finance.

abntv - "...the Republican are not a majority."
An outright lie or big error. Republicans have had the majority in bothe the House of Representatives and Senate since 1994. Remember Newt Gingrich and the Republican Revolution, the contract with America, the impeachment of Clinton.
In the election of 2006, the theoretical number in the Senate was 49 Republicans, 1 independent, and 50 Dems. But we all now know that Lieberman is technically an independent, but functionally a Republican. Remember he gave a Democrat-thumping speech in the RNC convention.
So the FUNCTIONAL split in the Senate is 50 Republicans, 1 independent, and 49 Democrats.
So Republicans have been in control of congress for 14 years, the White House for 8, and the Supreme Court for 6.

THE REPUBLICANS CAUSED BOTH THE MORTGAGE AND THE CREDIT CRISIS - EITHER ACTIVELY (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999), OR PASSIVELY BY NOT ENFORCING EXISTING LAWS AND FAILING TO PASS NEW LAWS.

Toph. I agree with you that the Republicans mess up the country, and the world. That is the nature of their ideology. However, lets not forget the democrats failed to oppose this administration. Lets not forget the people erred in voting this administration in for 8 years. Lets not forget that there are still a lot of people who still blindly side with the conservatives.

He's so fed up that he's labeling any change as "socialist" and embracing the status quo? Sounds a little unhinged to me.

You say "redtomato," I say "karlyc."

What's the difference between a man so fed up with the government he's pacing and yelling, and one who's ranting?

If you saw a man that worked up and didn't know why, you'd want to avoid him. You'd call him "unhinged." And you'd fear violence.

McCain (and particularly, Palin) feed that anger without a care for the consequences.

Funny how McCain signed the 700 billion dollar deal if he is against socialist take overs, not to mention additional 300 billion government mortgage bail out he called for in Tuesday's debate.
I do have to wonder how all these people complaining about the evils of socialism would feel about each road, street, highway and byway becoming toll roads? Do they feel 'dirty' just using those socialist breeding grounds for government dependency, we call public roads? Why should the government take pennies from each gallon of gas I buy when I can pay some corporation dollars each time I drive?

These supply side weenies don't really know what socialism is. Its just a pejorative label that they use because they don't understand the importance of government and how it is essential for prosperity and stability.

Here is a list of frivolous things the government does.

                                                    Provide education
                                                    Build infrastructure,
Keep bad and dangerous people behind bars
Ensure that competition is fair and free.
Create rules for handing and processing food, chemicals, and dangerous substances,
Create long term resource policies that take into account sustainability.
                                                    Protect the environment
Provide coordinated disaster relief, at least that is what they are supposed to do.
                                                    Conduct foreign policy.
Create legal protections for intellectual property
Monitor and regulate prescription drugs so we don't have bogus ineffective medicines.
License professionals to ensure minimum levels of competence in certain trades.
                                                    Health codes in restaurants
Fire safety codes in public gather places
                                                    All this damn socialism.

It would be much better if we lived in a country with belching smoke stacks like London of the 19th century or China of today and rivers full of chemicals pesticides. We have to stop bringing potable water to people's homes. If people want clean water, they can boil it on a stove.
Why should we crash test cars? Or direct airline traffic? Why should anyone have to have a license or insurance to drive? Anarchy on our highways would be so much better. Every man for himself. We don't need zoning laws either. If I want to build a hip hop music club in your sleepy bedroom community and blast rap to 4 in the morning, I should be allowed to do that as long as I can pay for it. The problem with Republicans is that they know the cost of everything and the value of nothing. Small government was possible when America was an agrarian society and farmers were largely independent and self sufficient and the population was small. Today, government is essential for managing our collective affairs and more so as time progresses, resources diminish, and the pressures of population create issues that affect our quality of life. No one likes regulations or bureaucracy, but they are a necessary and the lesser of two evils.

Brav-O,frcrtm5. I'm constantly amazed at the neo's who shout Socialism, forget it! whenever you talk about health care or banking regulations or any sane idea to benefit the general public when it's obvious we can't live without goverhment setting standards and rules and taking up the cost of services that have become too expensive for almost everybody. When the government itself is scared to death of anything that smacks of socialism, we end up where we are today. A financial disaster, slogging around in 2 wars we can't win but we can privitize to death and make our leaders and their buds filthy rich, and an American public that's scared to death to even think about 3, 4 months down the road. But some are so brainwashed they still scream about Socialism taking over "their" country. Your country existed 150 years ago, dude. It's my country too, I'm just as much an American and have just as much say. And its past time for a man like Barack Obama. Obama, who's no socialist, is a progressive who knows we can't go back to the 19th century and he won't think shock and awe invasions and lies are the way to conduct business with other countries who don't agree with us. Like it or not, time to join the 21st century. The good old days as you see them are gone and they aren't coming back. This isn't Fantasy Island.

Republicans have the emotional stability of five year olds. If you're a Democrat, you have to prove your patriotism. If you're a Republican, its a given that you love your country, you just hate half the people living here. The cacophony of Republicans will reach a fever pitch when Obama wins in November and the Democrats sweep more seats in the house and senate. They'll all turn on Rush Limbaugh, their father figure, and have a pity party and a bitch fest.

Expect MANY lawsuits filed November 5 (or 6, if it's close) seeking to overturn vote counts. Worse, expect federal judges to take them seriously this time.

It's not going to be close enough to make that possible. If Obama wins by 100 electoral votes, contesting one or two states ain't going to cut it.

IF, and granted that's 3 weeks of who knows what can happen, IF Obama pulls the numbers he has tonight, Virginia, West Virginia!, Wisconsin, Michigan and New Mexico come off your list, some of those states have double digit leads for Obama and at least 5 or 6 tonight.

That link doesn't work for some reason--I've seen others try it.

Fivethirtyeight.com has impressive electoral numbers for Obama, and even 270towin.com and Real Clear Politics have him winning. But a 5% popular margin in each of those states isn't hard to imagine, though Obama has momentum. And in your scenario with only 266, all he needs is to fight in New Mexico, or pick up a couple from Maine or Nebraska.

I'm not getting too comfortable until McCain and the Republicans concede defeat. And I definitely don't want any swing-state voters getting too confident and staying home.
