Palin-championed 'aerial hunting' program executed 14 wolf pups »
Posted By bubba2 8 months, 3 weeks ago in Political NewsIn June, after gunning down 14 adult wolves from a helicopter, officials from Governor Palin’s Department of Fish and Game rounded up 14 orphaned wolf pups and methodically shot each one in the head in clear violation of Alaska state law.
State law prohibits the targeting of pups -- a practice known as denning. Maybe that’s why Palin’s officials tried to cover it up, making no mention of the brutal pup executions in the state’s June 30th press release on the killings. To date, none of the officials involved in the incident has been held accountable.

That's one horrible story, even without the "legal" ramifications!

I'm not sure that I understand how people who commit acts like this can live with themselves - or how their partners put up with them if they know what their "men" folk are up to.
As for the VP candidate - is anyone going to follow up on this and put her on the spot? -

Have no, doubt that if given the chance, that’s exactly what the republican base would like to do to Obama supporters. I have a horrible feeling that even after Obama wins, the battle won’t be over.

Only it won’t be a battle fought with rhetoric and sound bites. So best, watch your backs.-

I have an issue with the term "aerial hunting". This is not hunting, hunting is a sport. This is an insult to hunters everywhere. A better term would be aerial slaughter or maybe aerial excecution. Oh, and Chuck, I plan on watching my back. In fact, I plan to carry my gun for a few days after the election. Eight years ago the idea of doing that would have seemed paranoid but, having seen the videos and other reports of McCain's and Palin's rallies, it seems like that's what this country has come to. So sad.

Wolves, moose, and other forest creatures need to run and hide from the whirring sounds of Sarah Palin and the Governor's helicopter. I wonder if the Alaska troopers use the same chopper to watch for speeders on the highway up there. Her actions are barbaric and inhumane. However, the NRA are the first to defend her.

I am glad the investigation found her guilty of abuse of power, which is a violation of Alaskan law. Perhaps there are enough Alaskans who will take on the responsibility of censuring her. We can only hope that will happen. Palin is a menace to this world and she needs to be removed from a position of influence.

That is beyond reprehensible.
Behavior like that speaks of people who enjoy killing for the sake of killing.
I would not be surprised to find out that she actually accompanies these killers on some of their killing sprees.
As a hunter I find it sickening. That men consider themselves hunters when they fly in like the choppers of death we had in Nam, to hunt defenseless wolves and pups.
Yeah they are missing something they have to replace with a rifle. -

Poor innocent wolfs. I'm glad to see so many of us are against such a silly cruelty and killings.

It sounds like they killed an entire pack. Wolves live in families, who even care for one another's pups. If they hadn't killed the pups, they would have died a slow death. I'm not excusing what they did, just explaining what their rationale probably was.

That said, there really aren't words to share my disgust for these kind of people. -

Of course not.....she only persecutes, oops I mean prosecutes, officials who she has a personal grudge against, or who have recently divorced a family member, etc. -

Wolves are one of the most efficient species of hunters and killers on the planet. A pack will kill and eat one or two animals a week, generally a young elk, bear cub, moose ... they love caribou. They also eat birds, bird eggs, etc. They have no natural enemies, so they flourish where there is a good supply of food.

When too many packs are out there, they kill too many animals and have to be culled out. In a wilderness like Alaska, where few roads exist, airplanes are the only choice.
It's important to maintain healthy populations of all animals and that's what this is about.-

bull****. You actually condoned the killing of pups?
Reply
That's sick. You can not tell me that the Alaskan government isn't aware that wolves are an endangered species in the lower 48. How about tranquilizing them and releasing them in one of the states that needs them? What about releasing them in Yellowstone?
BTW even in a State like Alaska, you can get to the hunting camp by plane then hunt. You don't need a plane, train or truck to hunt them. If you do you're a lazy hunter and in it only for the sport. -

I have heard that argument by "conservationists" before. There may even be some
truth to it but I am also aware of the practice of breeding and nurturing herds -
elk, in our area specifically. I thought they were REAL conservation groups.
Reports on the gowth of the herd went on over a long period of time. It was
growing - even thriving. Guys who might have looked like hunters to me before
were really working hard to preserve the elk. I thought that was great - that I
should be ashamed of myself for jumping to conclusions about their intent.
Well - call me stupid or naive!! Eventually a report on the local sporting show
revealed that the herd would soon reach the appropriate size.................and
HUNTING licences could be issued to HUNT THE ELK!

MN (not sure if wolves in MN are still on the protected list or not. We have a Bush clone for gov. Wetlands are being developed at an alarming rate. That's a separate topic.) has several places that might have taken all or some of the pups. One is not far from Grand Marasis MN in the BWCA (the Boundary Waters Canoe Area) called Wolf Ridge. There is also the International Wolf Center in Ely MN. I know there is another one in MN.

In the time I spent googling Wolf Sanctuaries and preserves, I learned that Alaska has several, there are many across Canada, and more across the lower 48. I'm sure any one of them would've loved to take all or some of the pups. If they couldn't then the would've contacted others. What an opporturnity to tell the truth about areal hunting. Too bad it was lost. I don't believe those that shot the pups weren't aware of the Wolf Sanctuaries. There were other options other than slaughtering an entire pack.
Thanks so much bubba for posting this.-

The wolf population in Yellowstone came from Alaska and they are off the endangered list ... the sanctuaries in Alaska are overcrowded.

Many of you will soon have problems with coyotes in your neighborhoods, killing your pets and yet protected from being killed. It will be a big problem in the future.
Wolves like polar bear cubs when they can get one.

Pups would have to be raised in captivity if the parents are dead.

Millions of animals die every day, killed to be eaten. We call that nature. If you like a good steak, you might remember we treat cows, pigs and chickens rather rudely ourselves.
