I totally disagree with the Alaska Legislative investigation into "Troopergate" and their decision. This man, who was married to Sarah Palin's sister, violated several laws/rules concerning the correct and professional use of weapons. He tazered his son!!! He has no business holding any position in law enforcement! The person who was fired for not firing this trooper also does not belong in law enforcement for overlooking this abuse of power. Governor Sarah Palin would, I am sure, have called for the firing of any law enforcement who was involved in a similar incident. The trooper's former relationship to the Governor by marriage to her sister has absolutely no bearing on this issue. Why is everyone so blind to this fact??? Alaska is that much safer with both of these men removed from their positions. Congratulations to Governor Sarah Palin for her wise judgement in this matter.

Wise judgement would have been leaving such a decision to an impartial person or parties. You are kidding yourself if think Palin's relationship as the ex-sister-in-law has no bearing. The Palin's obviously had personal scores to settle and Sarah abused her position.

retiringdela, she didn't argue that he violated those laws and rules in this case.

According to the article, "The inquiry looked into her dismissal of Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan, who said he lost his job because he resisted pressure to fire a state trooper involved in a bitter divorce with the governor's sister. Palin says Monegan was fired as part of a legitimate budget dispute."
In other words, by her own admission, it wasn't about his behavior. She abused her authority.
Would you call it "wise judgement" for anyone in power to circumvent the law to crush their opponents?-

I agree with you Beau. In light of the people of Wasilla whom she wanted to fire and did fire when she was Mayor, this Troopergate scandal reeks of her abuse of authority. After all, she fired the Town Solicitor and the Librarian. What on earth must one do to be fired as a librarian?

To be fired as a librarian, or anything else she has any say in, just cross the Queen.

You've heard the cries at her rallies: "Off with his head!" Or anyone else's who stands in her way.
Especially since she seems to believe the Vice President has unlimited powers, a la Dick Cheney.

She didn't abuse here authority because she HAS the authority and used that authority to fire Monegan who disobeyed her budget mandates. The panel is the one that actually abused their authority when they used public funds to embark on the personal witch hunt vendetta to satisfy their own agenda and that of the democraps, why do you think they hurried up the investigation so close to the election. The Personnel Board is the governmental body that should, and will, proceed with an investigation at the end of this month. Palin and her husband have agreed to be 100% compliant with the investigation.

You mean the bipartisan panel that was put together before she was running for VP and voted upon for the investigation by 8 Republicans and 4 Democrats? The one that was specifically given authority by Republican controlled state representatives.
Hmm.
"Palin and her husband have agreed to be 100% compliant with the investigation."
Yet they refused to hand over public emails, refused to testify and forbid a number of people from testifying on the advice of McCain's lawyers? Not so compliant.-

Some clarification is needed. There are two seperate "investigations". The first is the original "trooper gate" investigation that you outline in your first wo paragraphs. Sarah Supported that investigation (at least said she did.). That commenced before her VP pick and as you say was bi-partisan.
Reply
When the McCain campaign came into the picture they tried to abort that investigation and claimed that a state personnel board was the appropriate venue for an investigation. An Alaska supreme court decision said the legislative investigation was indeed appropriate and allowed the release of the report being commented on now. Todd Palin and Sarah's aides refused to respond to subpoenas from that investigation.
The personnel board that is doing the second "investigation" is composed of three members appointed by Sarah. No subpoenas are involved and Todd and aides have agreed to "testify" before this board. It has not released any ruling yet. I would not expect much from this one.
The legislative investigation was considered to be non-partisan until the McCain campaign stuck their nose into Alaskan business.

If you really believe that absurd statement, retiringdela, then it can only lead to the conclusion that Palin is a TOTAL failure as an executive.

For the governor to micro-manage to the extent of knowing the details of every case involving a state trooper would mean that she is not doing her real job of administering the state properly. -

Nonsense.

She used her position to achieve revenge in a family fight
; when another official bravely refused to cooperate, she fired him .
Even if her stories about her brother in law were true, there were standard ways of investigating and deciding on the fitness of the man for his job,
- not that it would be the governors job to do it;
doubly so if she had a personal fight with the man.
Your plain, flat, acceptance of her bullying misuse of power, -
is an insult to anyone who takes elected government seriously; and to the state of Alaska, which has the right to expect their elected officials to keep their personal vendetas out of the way of state business.-

I think I see your point .

If you can raise an issue where someone else did something wrong, - then that makes what Palin did ok.
Doesn't work as morality, of course;
and it makes for damned poor government;
but it really sucks as argumentation.
Which is why I want you to keep on doing it .-

I am unsure whether you are calling Palin a political witch; if so, please turn down your rhetoric.
Reply
On the other hand, if you are just knee-jerk- rejecting the results of an investigation as 'partisan', - then I will remind you that it was Palin herself who called for the investigation, after it was reported that she fired someone for refusing to fire her brother-in-law.
Maybe we could hire Ken Starr to look into Palin's call to investigate herself;
If she refuses to testify on grounds that it would be self-incriminating she could be shackled which would be wrong very wrong so I am not advocating it one little bit.
Not even a little bit. -

Thankfully, you didn't have a say in the outcome.
For you are obviously a Sarah Palin fan. It is people like you who scare the hell out of me.
For it is people like you who blindly follow and would have vindicated what Hitler did as alright, because you liked his ways.
Your opinion while strangely naive, suggests you are an extreme supporter of Palin.
Yes we have a person like her in the office of the Presidency now. Look how well that is going for us.
You see the fact that you seem to think Sarah used wise judgement here. Separates you from those who can discern the truth.
Stop drinking the kool aid and you will start to see things more clearly. LMAO hahahahahahaha -

And I find it somewhat amazing that if he is as bad as the Palins say that there aren't complaints against him from the public. I would think he would have a poor record as a trooper but that apparently isn't the case. Makes it look a little one sided.
