According to the article, "The inquiry looked into her dismissal of Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan, who said he lost his job because he resisted pressure to fire a state trooper involved in a bitter divorce with the governor's sister. Palin says Monegan was fired as part of a legitimate budget dispute."
In other words, by her own admission, it wasn't about his behavior. She abused her authority.
Would you call it "wise judgement" for anyone in power to circumvent the law to crush their opponents?-

I agree with you Beau. In light of the people of Wasilla whom she wanted to fire and did fire when she was Mayor, this Troopergate scandal reeks of her abuse of authority. After all, she fired the Town Solicitor and the Librarian. What on earth must one do to be fired as a librarian?

Especially since she seems to believe the Vice President has unlimited powers, a la Dick Cheney.

She didn't abuse here authority because she HAS the authority and used that authority to fire Monegan who disobeyed her budget mandates. The panel is the one that actually abused their authority when they used public funds to embark on the personal witch hunt vendetta to satisfy their own agenda and that of the democraps, why do you think they hurried up the investigation so close to the election. The Personnel Board is the governmental body that should, and will, proceed with an investigation at the end of this month. Palin and her husband have agreed to be 100% compliant with the investigation.

You mean the bipartisan panel that was put together before she was running for VP and voted upon for the investigation by 8 Republicans and 4 Democrats? The one that was specifically given authority by Republican controlled state representatives.
Hmm.
"Palin and her husband have agreed to be 100% compliant with the investigation."
Yet they refused to hand over public emails, refused to testify and forbid a number of people from testifying on the advice of McCain's lawyers? Not so compliant.-

Some clarification is needed. There are two seperate "investigations". The first is the original "trooper gate" investigation that you outline in your first wo paragraphs. Sarah Supported that investigation (at least said she did.). That commenced before her VP pick and as you say was bi-partisan.

When the McCain campaign came into the picture they tried to abort that investigation and claimed that a state personnel board was the appropriate venue for an investigation. An Alaska supreme court decision said the legislative investigation was indeed appropriate and allowed the release of the report being commented on now. Todd Palin and Sarah's aides refused to respond to subpoenas from that investigation.
The personnel board that is doing the second "investigation" is composed of three members appointed by Sarah. No subpoenas are involved and Todd and aides have agreed to "testify" before this board. It has not released any ruling yet. I would not expect much from this one.
The legislative investigation was considered to be non-partisan until the McCain campaign stuck their nose into Alaskan business.
