    The Heaven’s Edge

In the sunshine behind the clouds, there’s a place I know,
Where the stars shine in the light of day,
Where you can hear the stillness of the wind whispering on a windless night. It’s where I meet those I love who have since passed away.
They call this place the Heaven’s Edge.

From long ago and not so far away, both young and old,
    Come to meet and to walk the beach;
Tuesday was Gandhi, Chaplin, and van Gogh
    The Kennedys, Lincoln, and Leonardo.
Today it’s Rosa Parks and MLK
Jefferson, Gilda Radner, and Martha Raye.

Reflected in their eyes I see their dreams still alive and in the creases of their smiles their stories are inscribed. With their footprints winding down the beach, my sorrows slip beyond reach.
I bring my burdens there when they grow too heavy to ignore; when there seems no end to violence and to war, when politics and greed pull us further apart, and when hope screams for one more start.

Perhaps tomorrow, my friend, we will meet at the Heaven’s Edge
In the sunshine behind the clouds
Where the stars shine in the light of day,
And where you can hear the stillness of the wind whispering on a windless night.

My father, who had been sick for some time, had passed away last Friday and I wrote this poem with him in mind. He was eighty-five.

Thank you SC. Bittersweet. Sorry to hear of your father's passing - this video reminded me of my mother's passing this year so my heart goes out to you for your loss.

Many condolences, Spade. The death of a parent, when one is an adult, gives one a vivid sense of time and one's relation to it, I've found.

For those of you whose parents are still alive.

Here is a little advice, don't get into an argument with a parent over something small and let it keep you apart.

The results of that if the parent should die will tear at your heart. Remember, that life isn't certain and the curtain falls when you least expect it.

Share the love now or regret the lost chance for the rest of your life.

Not judging anyone, just some friendly advice.

that was beautiful spade, I added it to my favorites.

I miss my daddy also, he was the most influencial person in my life, and after my husband my best friend. It is hard not being able to ask him for advice when needed, but I find him answering me in other ways.

I know your pain spade, there are no words, and it never goes away, but, your poem so greatly tells of the place where we can go to speak with them at Heavens Edge. Isn't it great to imortalize our creations now with the internet. Now I'm going to cry....

Spadecaller. You're usual genius is reflected in your work. When my father died years ago he had made a statement that I have never forgotten. He knew what the outcome was going to be and moving outside to be with nature one day he remarked that he had never seen the grass and foilage so green. That day I felt he was standing at Heavens Edge peeking in.

You have reminded me of that day with your poem.

                    Thanks again

When a loved one dies it seems that part of you goes with them at first. Just thank God for the precious memories and for blessing your life with these people. My sympathies to SC and CowboyGramps.
