The 105-Year-Old Virgin Celebrates Another Birthday »
Posted By JamesMarcus 1 year, 2 months ago in NewsA woman who is celebrating her 105th birthday is attributing her long life to remaining celibate. Clara Meadmore, a resident at Perran Bay nursing home in Truro, Cornwall, only moved in to care in January.
The retired secretary said sex meant marriage when she was young and she never wanted to marry. "I have just never been interested in sex. I imagine there is a lot of hassle involved and I have always been busy doing other things."
Miss Meadmore was born in Glasgow in 1903, two years after Queen Victoria died, and she remembers the Titanic sinking and the outbreak of WWI. Her family travelled and she lived in Canada and New Zealand before moving back to Britain in her 20s where she worked as a housekeeper and secretary.
After serving in the army in Egypt during WWII, she lived between London and New Zealand before retiring to Cornwall 40 years ago. She will celebrate her 105th birthday on Saturday by reading a card from the Queen and having a "drop" of wine, she said.

why does she have to be a lesbian? i know it's hard to believe that not everybody wants to sleep around or get married, but believe it. and there are still a few people on this earth whose personal and spiritual belief it is that you should not have sex outside of marriage. none of this makes her a lesbian though.

OMG What an ignorant statement. Listen, just because she chooses not to have sex it doesn't make her a lesbian. Even if she was, there would be nothing wrong with it. I've seen women who never dated and it doesn't mean they're lesbians since i've seen lesbians and usually they have a partner. I've seen more people stay single nowadays and they're perfectly happy, since when does getting married has to be a requirement in life?

no sex for 105 years.....why bother. That's just one of the perks to living. Also, Ben and Jerry's chocolate, chocolate brownie ice cream or pizza with onions, mushrooms and pepperoni. Why bother living if you cant experience some of the pleasurers?

I had an old Aunt who was 95 when she died, and she too was a virgin. This was about 15 years ago.

Things were a lot different back then. She brought up my Grandmother as her own daughter when my Grans Mom passed away at the tender age of 6 months old. She held down a full time seamstresses job as well as doing silver service on the weekends to make ends meet and care for herself and my Grandmother..
Her priorities were so very different. And like she always made a point of telling me...you never miss what you have never had.
I believe thats very true!

Oh my wow. This is incredible. I know some people that didn't do ANYTHING (not even kissing) before marriage because they wanted to save sex for marriage. They knew that doing other stuff you led them to the temptation of doing it so they didn't. They are now married and so happy they went through it all. I thought that was hard. I can understand the not wanting to get married thing. I can also understand the not having sex thing. It's just amazing that she was able to keep it up even with the changing times... I guess you could say that i'm proud of her in a way.

you have a valid point of view. If I had to do it all over again, I would gladly trade a good pizza instead of having sex. Eventually, enough pizzas will take care of the not having sex and then no choice, no problem.I amuse myself.

Can't we just be happy for this dear old lady who's wonderful long life should be celebrated and respected. She has been through and seen more than any of us will ever even dream of and as far as her decision to remain a virgin, Kudo's to her, most of us don't even have enough will power today to say no to anything. No I am not gay, I'm married and have two children. Also, cannot we respect the wonderful moral of sadly to say for most of us that of "Yesteryear" when sex was a wonderful gift shared between a husband and a wife in love, not just something fun to do because it feels good. What an awesome thing, 105 years old, to have lived and survived all of the many obstacles and changes that have occurred throughout those 105 years!!!! God Bless Her Sweet Soul!!!!

This is sexist garbage.

What man who'd served honorably in World War II as she did would be celebrated for keeping his virginity instead of his patriotism and valor?
Bragging about your sex life (or lack of one)is a distraction for people who've accomplished nothing of value.

Here, here Shellbe! Her sex life (or lack there of) is none of our business, people. The fact that she is turning 105 years old on Saturday is a feat to be celebrated!! She has seen the WHOLE WORLD go by!! From NO CARS to TRAFFIC JAMS!! From LOTS of airlines to ALMOST NONE (hehe)! WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam, The GULF WARS! She has seen so much... I would LOVE to sit and talk to her!! The fact that she is still a virgin means nothing.

I can imagine a lady in her time dying a virgin. But nowadays.. sex with multiple partners is not unheard of by any means. Kids growing up now are losing their virginity before even reaching high school and it's a common thing. With the way the media is these days and teen magazines giving sex tips and what not, the urge and pressure to have sex is ridiculous. It's one of those rituals that you look back on and almost laugh at, I'm sure in a few years people will have that mentality of "not having sex until you're married?? ha! that's insane!"

Listen she is not gay. She is just a religious person who has commentment. Nothing wrong with that. A truly commented religious person knows that sex before marriage is a sin. So she is just following her religious beliefs and culture. Nothing wrong with that. I wish young people now a days would do that. With HIV, STD's, and unwanted pregnancy it seems that the good ole days might have had some of it right.

She's British, not religious, and would probably be appalled at your assessment. If she were religious, the forbidden fruit of sex might have seemed more interesting than the "hassle" she mentioned. She's old and in during her youth, having sex equaled getting married and it didn't seem worth it to her. Not once does she mention religion or sin.

No sex? At 14 my friends asked me who were already sexually active.. I was not yet. Don't you miss it? I said how can you miss something you have never experienced yet?

As far as her never wanting to marry. There are many people have no desire to marry.. I should know, I dated a man for 5 yrs and he had never been married . He was 43 then and he is 48 now and probably will be single his whole life. Too selfish for it. As far as sex... I am sure he could write a book on how many sexual encounters he has had LOL.
As for me.. I could live with sex or without it.. I have done both.. It's not all it's cracked up to be if it's just sex.
If you are in love and not just being used then it's another story.
Men can have sex with the same woman for a long time.. Doesn't mean he is into her. Men are strange creatures.
If Christie Brinkley's husband cheated on her then what hope does the average looking woman have? LOL
I am going off topic here. Sorry..
No sex. She is still alive.. God Bless her. :) -

I think her decision is just that - her decision. She is celebrating her 105th birthday and the fact that she is a virgin seems more important to the readers than the fact that she has lived to see 105. I (unfortunately) lost my virginity at a very young age. I decided two years ago to take a vow of sexual purity until I get married again. I don't miss it at the moment and if I don't have it again, oh well! I just hope that, like Clara, I can live to be 105 if that is in God's plans for me. Happy Birthday Clara and God bless!!
