WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Realtor Adrian Prevalla said that when he returned to his office after meeting with a client, he felt dizzy, blacked out and felt his heart begin to race and his blood pressure rise.

“The only thing different about that morning compared to most of the other mornings was that he had a piece of cake at a client's house,” said West Hartford Police Capt. Paul Melanson. As Prevalla was rushed to the hospital, said Melanson, a co-worker called homeowner Nancy Glass to ask about the cake. “The co-worker called to see if there was anything in the cake that could have caused an allergic reaction, and the woman stated that her daughter had put marijuana in the cake,” said Melanson.

By the time police got to the home on Greenbrier Drive, Melanson said, the gingerbread cake was already down the garbage disposal, but Glass admitted she baked the cake that morning and said she was sorry. “She apologized for it,” said Melanson. “She didn't mean for him to get sick on it, didn't mean for it to happen, but the cake was baked that morning, so it's not like ‘I forgot.’"

Blacked out? Dozed off more likely. It's happened to me.

"I Love You Alice B. Toklas" is a great movie. The laughter in the scene where Seller's parents get into the brownies is pretty contagious.

I would never approve of spiking some one's cake and getting them high with out their knowledge or consent. That would be a frightening experience even for some one who is familiar with drugs because it would be unexpected. I used to take Marijuana brownies before going to concerts or to movies. I stopped using weed because it only made me paranoid. The taste was unmistakable however. I think it would be hard for some one not to notice the distinct flavor of grass in the cake.

There is this element to marijuana that makes some people think "They'll throw me in jail!", "I'll lose my job!", "what if everybody finds out?", and "why is this illegal?"

When you begin to REALLY think about it, what exactly is it that makes people who don't smoke, or use marijuana, COMPLETELY INSANE?

I've tasted some funny cakes before, though. I usually just try to do it, you know, tea and cake really is just a form of intercourse.

This is simply a remnant of the culture wars of the sixties. Marijuana is a relatively harmless drug but it is associated with hippies, beats, and the anti war movement. I think it should be legal.
In my case, however, the paranoia had less to do with legal consequences than just neuro chemically induced fear. Even in friendly environments, I became self conscious and reticent after smoking it. I worried too much about what people were thinking about me. I have talked to other people who had similar reactions. I didn't always experience weed this way. I used to enjoy it, but that stopped for some reason. Even though I think weed is not dangerous, I don't believe it is all that useful or enlightening. It might help in some creative processes but often, when I thought I had some grand insight while stoned, I'd write it down and when I was sober, the idea looked ridiculous.
However, how often do you hear about some one smoking weed and getting violent? Its not a drug which is conducive of violence. Weed is more conducive of apathy. In that sense, it can be harmful if it prevents people from taking their lives seriously. When a person is a full blown stoner, they live to get high and don't take anything seriously. But I have also known people, who, after getting high, became quite productive. Even though I support legalization, I would not encourage my children to become users. I would be more afraid if they became heavy drinkers, however. Alcohol leads to far more dangerous behaviors than weed.

I so agree with everything you just said. It's so funny to know I'm not the only one who thought I had such a brilliant idea when high, only to write it down and look at it later and realize how stupid it was.

Light weight, who "passes out", sounds more like he got scared when he felt different, hyperventilated and then passed out. I have Never passed out, dropped out, laid and couldn't move, but never passed out.

Tonight I'm wataching Pink Floyd "Pulse", singing "Comfortable Numb" and it's a beautiful night in the nest.

                I am so "comfortably numb",
