Look ... we all know that the Republicans only hope is to try to disenfranchise as many Americans from voting as they can.

That's because more and more Americans have been adversely affected by the Perverse Ideology that Republicanism has become.
When you Lie to launch a pre-emptive war .... when you FIGHT AGAINST Children getting health care.... when you attempt to Politicize our Judicial System ... well .... people begin to see a pattern of anti-Americanism.
The fact that Republican Policy has harmed our nation more than any Terrorist could dream of doing ... well that's it.

GOP's ACORN 'Voter Fraud' Lie Ramped Up
I had been intending to post an answer to the ongoing -- and quickly escalating -- ACORN smears being issued of late by the GOP enemies of democracy out there, who have decided to intensify their unsubstantiated assaults on the community organization, given its effectiveness at registering millions of low-income voters across the country....
... Doubtless you've heard the smears by now: that ACORN is committing "voter fraud", on behalf of Obama, in hotly contested swing states. The media has been all too happy to pass that garbage on, without bothering to note that, in fact, the organization attempts to authenticate every registration form their workers submit and by law they must turn in every form to election officials -- even if they find a registration to be fraudulent when they call the phone number submitted on the form, or if the forms are otherwise suspect or incomplete.
They do so, and they flag all questionable registration forms as being suspect before turning them in to officials.
The thanks they receive for registering millions of new voters that nobody else has bothered with, and for notifying officials about questionable registration forms when they turn them in, is that the GOP's democracy-hating propagandists and election officials run to the media shouting, "ACORN is committing voter fraud! They've turned in hundreds and thousands of fraudulent registration forms!"
Of course they have. They have to by law. But what those GOP despots of democracy always forget to mention is that it was ACORN themselves who notified officials about the potentially fraudulent and/or incomplete forms in the first place!
For the quickest idea of how the GOP ACORN scam has run amok, dutifully forwarded by the often clueless corporate media, and then the rightwing wankers in the blogosphere who are only to happy to help enable those who are lying to them -- by putting truth, democracy and country second -- take a look at the following game of rightwing "blogosphere telephone" concerning a recent news conference called by a Lake County, Indiana GOP chair in order to sound the phony alarm about "fraud" committed by ACORN....

Frankly the whole "ACORN" campaign (about voter REGISTRATION) by the GOP seems to be an effort to distract attention from their campaign to block real VOTES.

Vote Rigging and Suppression Ahead of the 2008 Election
Election Day is less than a month away, and a record-breaking voter turnout is expected in the 2008 race. But voting rights groups are warning that tens of thousands of registered voters might not be able to cast a ballot come November 4th.
Beyond the documented problems of electronic voting machines, thousands of names have been purged from the rolls in several states, including at least six swing states.
Democrats and Republicans are locked in court battles over these in a number of states across the country. While Democrats say they’re trying to prevent attempts to block votes, Republicans say they are trying to prevent voter fraud.
BBC investigative journalist Greg Palast travels to New Mexico, Michigan and Colorado to investigate how both Democrats and Republicans are accusing each other of trying to steal the election.

Times of peril are no time for Amateurs. Socialist debt is what will sink us.WILL you make the same mistake? For those too young to know or remember. Change for the sake of change is seldom for the better. 1975-76 the U.S. was in turmoil, and people were demanding change. An obscure young man with good credentials(exceptional credentials compared to the aspirants today). 1977, President Carter inherited an economy that was slowly emerging from a recession. After four years of the Carter presidency, both inflation and unemployment were worse than at the time of his inauguration. The annual inflation rate rose from 4.8% in 1976 to 6.8% in 1977, 9% in 1978, 11% in 1979, and hovered around 12% at the time of the 1980 election. Carter had pledged to eliminate federal deficits, the deficit 1979 $27.7 billion, 1980 was nearly $59 billion. Inflation(11-12 percent), and skyrocketing interest rates(21.5 percent). July 1980, Carter received a favorable rating of only 21% in the Gallup Poll. That was the lowest rating any president, including Richard Nixon at the time of his resignation, had received since polling began in 1936.This not to mention the devastated military preparedness and income tax rates. Do we need to re-live this in 2008-2012?

GOP lies about affordable housing initiatives and the financial crisis
Conservative and other media figures, echoing a reported strategy on the part of Republicans, have attempted to deflect blame for the financial crisis onto proponents of the expansion of affordable housing and legislation and institutions created to effect that expansion. The attacks are premised on several myths and falsehoods and, in the case of CRA and attacks on minority lending, have taken on a racial tinge.
MYTH: The 1977 Community Reinvestment Act forced lenders into irresponsible lending. ....
The suggestion that the financial crisis was caused by banks lending irresponsibly to comply with the CRA is widely discredited. According to housing experts, a large number of subprime loans were not made under the CRA, which applies only to depository institutions. A study released earlier this year by a law firm specializing in CRA compliance estimated that in the 15 most populous metropolitan areas, 84.3 percent of subprime loans in 2006 were made by financial institutions not governed by the CRA. Moreover, Janet Yellen, president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, stated in a March 2008 speech that "studies have shown that the CRA has increased the volume of responsible lending to low- and moderate-income households".
MYTH: Excessive lending to undocumented immigrants is responsible for the financial crisis....
MYTH: Congressional Democrats, led by Barney Frank, opposed strengthening oversight over Fannie and Freddie...
In fact, Frank did not "s[i]t by." Frank's efforts to enhance regulatory oversight on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac include: .... -

Nixie, this is such a pile of cr**. First, ACORN hasn't been convicted of anything. Remember the firings of republican federal prosecutors because they wouldn't push cases that they knew they couldn't get convictions on just before the 2006 elections. Well, that is what this is all about. They got rid of republican prosecutors that had any personal convictions and put in a bunch of people that would prosecute a bunch of bogus cases a few weeks before the election.

Now the republican cheerleaders are crying out that they are guilty before the investigation is finished. Guess you don't believe in America's justice system. -

The Republicons do this every election and their gestapo tactics will not work here. This is the very reason Bush fired the attorneys in 2006 because they wouldn't do the crooked harassment that is taking place now. Crying foul and raiding places just before election to persuade voters is low life politics because there is no voter fraud . It's the Republicans that are involved in voter disenfranchisement as can be proven by Blackwell's actions in Ohio.. Here's a statement from Iglesias, who was fired for not targeting voter registration drives by ACORN because there was no evidence of voter fraud.
Reply
"I was aware that the Justice Department was interested in having U.S. attorneys investigate and prosecute voter fraud going back to 2002," Iglesias told PBS. "Upon reviewing the evidence and looking at the FBI reports, I concluded, as did the public integrity section at main Justice and at the local FBI office, that we didn’t have any prosecutable cases."
"No charges have ever been brought against ACORN itself. Convictions against individual former ACORN workers have been accomplished with our full cooperation," the memo read.

the same person registering to vote in several precincts (very possible when no proof of residency is required)
a person who is not a US citizen registering to vote (very possible when no proof of citizenship/and or identification is necessary to register)
totally fictitious names being registered to vote and then imposters hired to vote for these made up names (again, totally possible when no proof of identity, citizenship or residency is required either at the time of registration or when actually voting).
Now, I know many of you on the left say that this type of attitude is "disenfranchising minorities and the poor", but I really think it's just common sense.

The country is in a shambles and they actually think they deserve another chance to cause more destruction. This is simply delusional on the part of cons. ;-(

It's nice to hear a voice of reason amid the fray of partisanship.
It's extreme partisanship that drove the ideologues within the Neo-Conservative party to try to prove there was wide-spread voter fraud ... perpetrated .... supposedly ... only by those voting for Democrats.
After years of looking ... SEARCHING ... Albierto Gonzalez ... (The Appointed Liar Of The Bush Administration) ... presented his findings to the Supreme Court.
They laughed him out of court.
But this will not stop the Partisan Extremists on the Right from their efforts to deny Americans their Right To Vote.
Why?
Because ... frankly ... .it's the only way the can win any longer.
The Republican Party is in decay.
The proof is in the Bush administration.
6 Years ... 6 Years where they had control of the Supreme Court, The House of Representatives, The Senate .... and the White House.
What did they do with this ultimate control?
Well ... they had a feeding frenzy ... quite frankly.
Why did they do this?
Because they don't care about Government.
They say this themselves. You always hear them say ... 'Government is BAD'.
See? They have no respect for Government.
You see what this lack of respect has done to our nation.
Record Deficits.
Massive Corporate Bailouts
Endless Warfare ... incompetently managed.
Gutting of Government programs.
Who votes for these people?
Who votes for these types of politicians are other people who don't care about our government. Their cynicism of Government is so deep ... they don't even realize that Our Government DEFINES who we are as a nation ... it's our shared expression of our civic hopes and aspirations.
That's why I say ... these people who promote Dis-Information HATE America. I'm not saying they are terrorists. But they DO hate the American Government.
Which is why ... it's so odd they continue to support George W. Bush and this type of politician ... because ... Bush has made our Government 40% BIGGER than when he took office?
Bigger ... and more incompetent.
One place where Obama is going to save BILLIONS ... is to simply scale back the massive Government developed by the present Neo-Cons.
So yes ... we should give Barack Obama a chance.

first, the $800,000 everyone keeps pointing to was for services during the primary, so it has nothing to do with whats happening now.
second, all those extra and strange registrations didn't come from the obama camp. and unless someone's got proof to show that it did, you've got nada. and it ain't fraud unless someone goes and tries to vote under a false or dead person's name. until then, there's simply no wrong doing.
and it stinks like rove and his dirty tricks dept anyway. who else would have an intense interest in trying to nullify all voters registered thru acorn? who else would have an intense interest in trying to make obama look bad?
the execution of this is so sloppy, its obvious that someone was trying to get caught. its also obvious that when you're ahead and kicking assss, you con't need to cheat to win. which also excludes obama since he's ahead and his lead is widening.
and who broke the story? fox. and who works for fox? rove.

You say the money was for services rendered during the primary. That kind of fills in one big piece of the puzzle, huh? You see, I always wondered how Obama did so well in the caucus states compared to Hillary. Hillary carried the overall vote in the primaries by something like 400,000 votes or so. Obama carried the caucus states something like 15 to 2. No telling how many ACORN workers earned their money by helping Obama in these important caucus states. Hillary knew somehting was wrong and now we are just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Fasten your seatbelt, it's going to be bumpy for Obama from here on out:

The link shows the roots of the alleged problem (from mighty ACORN roots grow mighty oak trees) :
Systematic Corruption of the Party’s Caucus Procedures
The Committee received substantially similar reports of improprieties of such a number as to leave no conclusion but that the Obama campaign and its allies and supporters engaged in a planned effort to subvert the Party’s caucus procedures to its advantage. For example:
- Preference cards were premarked for Obama.
- Clinton supporters were denied preference cards on the basis that none were left, while Obama supporters at the same caucus sites were given preference cards.
- Caucus chairs obviously supporting Obama:
- Deliberately miscounted votes to favor Senator Obama.
- Deliberately counted unregistered persons as Obama votes.
- Deliberately counted young children as Obama votes.
- Refused to accept preference cards from Clinton supporters who were at the caucus site by noon on the ground that the cards were not filled out fast enough.
- Told Clinton supporters to leave prior to electing delegates.
- Clinton supporters who arrived late were turned away from the caucus, while late Obama supporters were admitted to the caucus.
Manipulation of the Voter Registration Process
Numerous reports received by the Committee demonstrate a concerted effort on the part of the Obama campaign and its supporters to prevent eligible voters supporting a candidate other than Senator Obama from caucusing. The Obama supporters complained of were acting in positions of authority at the caucus sites. Some of these reports are as follows: -

lovemylibs8 months, 3 weeks ago
(CONT)
Reply
- Obama supporters wrongly informed Clinton supporters that they were not allowed to participate in the caucus if their names were not on the voter rolls. However, Obama supporters whose names did not appear on the voter rolls were permitted to register at the caucus site.
- Obama supporters falsely informed Clinton supporters that no registration forms were available for them to register to vote at the caucus site.
- Obama supporters wrongly told Clinton supporters who were attempting to caucus at the wrong precinct that they could not caucus at that site, while simultaneously permitting Obama supporters at the wrong precinct to participate.
- Obama supporters were allowed to move to the front of the registration and sign-in line.
Voter Suppression and Intimidation
The Committee received a substantial number of disturbing reports from voters that they had been subject to harassment, intimidation or efforts to prevent them from voting. Some of the most egregious of these complaints are described below:
- Voters at at-large caucus sites were informed that those sites were for Obama supporters only.
- Clinton supporters at at-large caucus sites were told that their managers would be watching them while they caucused.
- Workers were informed that their supervisors kept lists of Clinton and Obama supporters, and were told that they could not caucus unless their name was on the list of Obama supporters.
- Many Clinton supporters were threatened with employment termination or other discipline if they caucused for Senator Clinton.
- Workers were required to sign a pledge card to support Obama if they wanted time off to participate in the caucus.
- Workers at one casino were offered a lavish lunch and permitted to attend and register to vote only if they agree to support Obama. -
