Yes, "the proles" is short for the proletariat. If you haven't read "1984" it is a must read. You can see the symptoms in our society. The sly pruning of the 4th Amendment last year with the tossing of the FISA provisions on wiretapping. The hatred and senseless bleating you saw at that McCain rally the other day. The lies we have continually been told about Iraq. The power of a Vice President who truly could care less about the views of the people. Only surprising we don't have a literal Ministry of Truth.

Orwell was far too prophetic. Maybe a little off on the date (yet Reagan WAS in power during that year). He knew that the fascist forces would win out. He tried to warn us. But as we saw in '00 and '04 we refused to listen. This is the tipping point. We have a chance to slip the trap. But I still don't like the odds against Obama. It will take a literal miracle for him to win. He is already running with a 10+/- handicap just because of the color of his skin.
