There's nothing to excuse here except Aidenag's overzealousness in trying to pin an ACORN relationship on McCain. If there was a relationship, there should be better evidence than a conference that was sponsored by 4 or 5 organizations.

ROFLMAO, how come the Rep niminees have donated more to charity? The CEO of Exxon retuirement fund is NOT a charity. The Republicans fowling up FEMA so its unable to respond to hte needs of the people of New Orleans is a great example. The Republican Administration ignoring fisdcal responisbility andd saddling the middle class with teh bailout of corporate Wall Street is another. Why do the Republicans donate a pittance adn then expect evveryone to ohhhh and ahhhhhhhh over it? What kind of hypocrisy is that?

Ohhh and Lovey Doodle if the Republicans cared so much about the poor and disadvantaged they wouldnt be sponsoring legislation tht cuts the benefits of those who are poor and disadvantaged. In fact you might see more of them, like McCain showing their support for ACORN for helping those same poor aned disadvantaged vote. But we all know THAT isnt true at all, in fact they work extra hard to STOP the poor and disadvanatged from voting since they dont vote REPUBLICAN, imagine that.

We like when you liberals get around to actually telling the truth about McCain. But most importantly, it provides us the chance to lay out a reasoned argument why Obama is an even worse candidate for the Oval Office.-

Republican leaders break ranks with McCain
Senior members of the Republican party are in open mutiny against John McCain's presidential campaign, after a disastrous period which has seen Barack Obama solidify his lead in the opinion polls.
...From inside and outside his inner circle, Mr McCain is being told to settle on a coherent economic message and to tone down attacks on his rival which have sometimes whipped up a mob-like atmosphere at Republican rallies.
Two former rivals for the party nomination, Mitt Romney and Tommy Thompson, went on the record over the weekend about the disarray in the Republican camp. And a string of other senior party figures said Mr McCain's erratic performance risks taking the party down to heavy losses not just in the presidential race but also in contests for Congressional seats....
Some Republicans seeking election to Congress have begun distancing themselves from Mr McCain. In Nebraska, a Republican representative, Lee Terry, ran a newspaper ad featuring support from a woman who called herself an "Obama-Terry voter". ....

You're missing the point here folks. This entire Acorn fraud and banker intimidation thing really isn't about Obama or McCain. It's about US, the people of America. If these allegations of fraud and banker intimidations are true, (looks like these allegations do have alot merit.) Then we the people are the ones being hurt here.
Reply
Are we going to stand by and let voter fraud, (lead by Acorn) decide who are next president is going to be? Are we going to allow Acorn to get away with intimidating bankers to lend money to people who clearly can not pay the loans back, to the point that it destroyed our economy? So now, we the people have to dig into our pockets to bail these corrupt creeps out. Is all this OK with everyone, I say no it's not. I say investigations must take place to stop this deep corruption that's going to ruin us. At this point, who gives a rats azz about McCain, Palin or Obama, Biden, ... and any involvement Obama and Dems may have, that just does not matter right now. What we should be doing is stopping this corruption before who knows what will happen next! It's got to be stopped. Can't you people see that this kind of deep corruption will be the end of this country as we know it? ACORN'S WIDE SPREAD VOTER FRAUD, ACORN'S WIDE SPREAD CORRUPTION by Intimidation in the Financial sector. This crap is going to ruin everything we beleive in and live for.
So how about we the people DEMAND INVESTIGATIONS into all this and prosecute anyone for their involvement in causing this huge mess we are in. **** on who we plan to vote for, seems it won't matter who we vote for anyway, Voter Fraud may simply decide for us in this election year. So, lets do something to stop that before our next elections...-

Vote Rigging and Suppression Ahead of the 2008 Election
Election Day is less than a month away, and a record-breaking voter turnout is expected in the 2008 race. But voting rights groups are warning that tens of thousands of registered voters might not be able to cast a ballot come November 4th.
Beyond the documented problems of electronic voting machines, thousands of names have been purged from the rolls in several states, including at least six swing states.
Democrats and Republicans are locked in court battles over these in a number of states across the country. While Democrats say they’re trying to prevent attempts to block votes, Republicans say they are trying to prevent voter fraud.
BBC investigative journalist Greg Palast travels to New Mexico, Michigan and Colorado to investigate how both Democrats and Republicans are accusing each other of trying to steal the election.

This is a non issue in terms of it's effect on Obama...not sure why the right is so into this story...I guess they just want to render Obama's victory illegitimate and blame everything from our poor economy to voter fraud on African Americans...interesting irony. Not one voter ever registered by ACORN has been accussed or convicted of voter fraud, they registered 1.3 million this year...I would say within that number there would be individuals who may perpetrate fraud, or mistakes as well, maybe even a 5% error rate...but if someone regiters 5 times he can't vote 5 times, only Diebold can do that...lol.
Reply
Ben Smith-
""Acorn" may not exactly be a household word, but it was on the cover of one of the newspapers I read in hard copy today, so it seemed worth getting into a marginal story that the GOP is trying to make central.
The key distinction here is between voter fraud and voter registration fraud, one of which is truly dangerous, the other a petty crime.
The former would be, say, voting the cemeteries or stuffing the ballot boxes. This has happened occasionally in American history, though I can think of recent instances only in rare local races. Practically speaking, this can most easily be done by whoever is actually administering the election, which is why partisan observers carefully oversee the vote-counting process.
The latter is putting the names of fake voters on the rolls, something that happens primarily when organizations, like Acorn, pay contractors for new voter registrations. That can be a crime, and it messes up the voter files, but there's virtually no evidence these imaginary people then vote in November. The current stories about Acorn don't even allege a plan to affect the November vote.
So the New York Post's story leads:
Two Ohio voters, including Domino's pizza worker Christopher Barkley, claimed yesterday that they were hounded by the community-activist group ACORN to register to vote several times, even though they made it clear they'd already signed up.
There's not even an allegation that the guy was being pressed to vote twice.
Acorn, meanwhile, is denouncing the raid on its Nevada office as a political stunt and says it had tried to alert authorities to its own bad registrations.
And Acorn is taking credit for registering 1.3 million new voters, which is a lot, though the fake ones, of course, along with being against the law, are worthless.
This is a non story...you republicans better prepare for the next 3 weeks and come up with an economic policy that doesn't sound completely ridiculous.-

I recently got ripped a new one, because I supported the statement of one of the conservative folks here, that said that ACORN paid by how many registration forms where filled out.

I will gladly accept that if you will allow an investigation into the republican voter fraud in Florida in 2000 and in Ohio in 2004. I would like to see a full investigation. Oh, but the attorney general won't allow that will he? After all, that might shine unfavorably on the people who gave him his powerful job.

Check this out:

It shows election results for the primaries. Not counting superdelegates, Obama received a total of 1763 delegates. If my math is correct, 432 of those were in caucus states - 1/4 of the total.
Clinton received a total of 1640 delegates, 207 of those were in caucus states - about 1/8 of her total. If you proportion the caucus delegates in the same ratio as the vote totals in the other states, Clinton would be the winner in delegates (not including the superdelegates) by a total of about 1772 to 1631 for Obama.
It would have been a whole different ballgame. -

My mother was/is a hardcore feminist; she left her job as a college professor to become a nun, and left that to become a hermit care-taker of a cemetery in Florence.
But that is another story.
There is a kind of cool story I would like to tell.
It started in about 1978 when we (my friends from high school) where renovating buildings. The guys where doing the carpentry: and the girls where doing the plastering, drywall finishing, and painting. It just worked out that way: the girls teased us about our fascination with tools.
I can state undeniably that their was a whole lot less jobsite “Bitchiness” then, than I encounter now, in the crew cut world of commercial construction.
There was a silly exception though, and I should have backed down.
I was working with a Vietnamese carpenter (he built the boat he escaped in), and when we where running the sticks we where putting the “Pretty” side up, and the “Ugly” side down.
Our Banter has overheard. And the girls (we where between 17 and 20 yrs old) ripped into us for being so shallow, and that it was just like a “man” to judge something only by its surface. The Vietnamese guy was completely confused, and the fight lasted for days.
We did have a couple of other silly fights, but trades often compete for space in the workplace.
The women earned as much, and sometimes more, as the men did. And, for the most part, jobs fell together smoothly in spite of our youth and inexperience.
I have a daughter and a son, a little more than a year apart in age. There was a Christmas when I bought my daughter a Tonka Truck and my son a big boy doll; it did not go over to well. Now that they are both in college my daughter has spent a good bit more time than my son in my shop, either for the money or to do one of her art projects.
Why am I saying all this?-

One of my oldest friends is an Anarchist.
Who could believe that a group of left-wing do-gooders could takeout the whole economic system, just by being left-wing do-gooders.
And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
Mar 12:42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
Mar 12:43 And he called [unto him] his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
Mar 12:44 For all [they] did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, [even] all her living.
And it seems that she had the power to take them out!
No need to flip over tables.
Who knew anarchy could be so easy!
Just give that widow a hand, and the money changers fall.-

Right on man !!!!
The GOP is to me like the Phaisees , all puffed up with themselves, full of pride and false hoods based on their greed and self righteousness.
The Pharisees tried this.
How about this one for our non tax paying hypocrites.
Matthew 22:15-21
Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His Talk.
And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians , saying. "Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do you care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men.
"Tell us therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"
But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you test Me you hypocrites
"Show Me the tax money." So they brought Him a denarius.
And He said to them. "Whose image and inscription is this?"
They said to Him, "Caesar's." And He said them. "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
I have never understood why the GOP is against the teachings of Jesus Christ in this matter.
Pay your taxes to the government and be done with it. So you may take care of what is truly important. Giving to God what is his. Ourselves.
People matter more than the man made money, Jesus is pretty clear about this.
Yet the GOP would have us think wealth and power are more important than people who are Gods' creation.-

This story is very comical. It leaves out the juicy details. This event was sponsored by many organizations, not just ACORN. The local Catholic archdiocese, SEIU and others. The topic was immigration. So, it is a case of McCain crossing the so called aisle to talk about a topic that has proven to cause him some partisan misery. A case of John reaching out to the other side to try to further the debate on a critical topic. And orgasmic liberals see it as an undying love for ACORN. I really loved the statement that Bertha Lewis, Acorn's chief organizer, sent with the photo:

"The Obama campaign is now distancing itself from Acorn, claiming Mr. Obama never organized with it and has nothing to do with illegal voter registration. Yet it's disingenuous to channel cash into an operation with a history of fraud and then claim you're shocked to discover reports of fraud. As with Rev. Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers, Mr. Obama was happy to associate with Acorn when it suited his purposes. But now that he's on the brink of the Presidency, he wants to disavow his ties."

anyone who has never participated in a voter registration drive, has no right to criticize acorn. i have personally registered hundreds of voters and i can't guarantee any of them. that is the job of each state's sec'y of state to verify the new registrations. people who go out to register new voters are not seeking to commit fraud...they are seeking to increase participation in our democracy. (any of you have a problem with that?)

it is hard, thankless work...and there is no way to verify that the person you've solicited to register is already registered or lying about his/her legal status. i can state unequivocally that i have never registered a dead person and don't know anyone who has.
finally, to my knowledge there has NOT been an indictment or conviction of any organization for registering people to vote. if any one is guilty of voter fraud it is the individual who knows he/she is not eligible or already registered. if already registered, they wouldn't be able to vote twice anyway.
this kind of obsessive focus on "voter fraud" is a red herring to divert attention from the very real election "irregularities" practiced by republicans. hanging chad and elections decided by a candidate's brother & the supreme court...diebold machines that have been tampered with and such like.-

Like all liberal groups, they start with good intentions only to end in corruption. Acorn has been involved with voter fraud in Milwaukee and Chicago for years. They've had people registering nursing home patients and getting them to sign absentee ballots of course supporting the DNC candidates. They've registered entire NFL football teams from other states. They've registered dead people. Their excuse? The support of the liberal causes. Complain and it's racism.

No it means that one person signed up multiple times. Could have been a Republican operative trying to discredit the organiztion. But I bet you didnt know that voter fraud is when someone VOTES fraudulently. I can register to vote multiple times, its the Sec of States responsibility to vet the applications. Maybe you can explain of course how one person who registers 73 times would be able to vote multiple times? I mean mAnn COulter seemed to regfister to vote in two states and the right seemed to believe it was an oversight., ROFLAMO.

McCain supported what he thought was "ACORN'S" goal. When found out that this group was a bunch of "liberal bigots", who's only real intention, to the extent of using fraud and lies-behind-lies, to promote only the Obama campaign...he had to be honest to himself..and get out of this group fast!

I hope most americans have realized by now, who the real Obama is...he's a "closet radical", to say it mildly.. from his humble? beginnings as a communoity organizer, where he learned all the tricks of the "trade", and his alliances with co-radicals like Ayers and Resko and Pastor Wright,,,to name a few...! -

I think right wingers have decided with this campaign that they should give up any hope of ever attracting any significant number of African-Americans to the GOP and so they're basically going for broke in twisting up the smear quotient. Cons realize that whether Obama wins or loses.

What is deeply saddening here is that an organization like ACORN can walk into a county office in Ohio and dump 80,000

fraudulent voter registration forms on someones desk and walk out. Then come back two weeks later after the forms have been open and processed and tell those people that the forms they turned in were fraudulent..well after anything can be done about it.
And they do this in state after state and get away with it.
All because their spokesperson is telling the country what a great service they are doing by signing up new voters. -

If this article is true, no WONDER he didn't attack Obama and defend himself. No WONDER he didn't bring up ACORN in his first debate. No WONDER he didn't say, "Hey, look, my friends, you DEMOCRATS are the ones like Bush behind this screw up." IF this article is true, he would have cast a stone in a glass house, so, he remained silent. Well, if this is true, we are screwed. SCREEEEEEWED!

It`s not like ACORN is Diebold, or Katherine Harris, or even activists like Scalia or Thomas who all have committed voter disenfranchisement, attacking the foundation of our republic.

And even the clowns who can convince themselves that overzealous voter registration workers are worse than the conspirators and activist judges who deny legal voters their rights, McCain`s connection to ACORN was greater and more recent than Obama`s.
If it were me and every single issue and McCain campaign decision was coming back to haunt my guy like they are to the McCain campaign, I would think that God hates me and I would make an effort to change.
