It is not startling or controversial to learn that in Islam, as in Christianity, the religion of a child is considered to be that of the father. It therefore is not startling at all that Obama's religion at birth was that of his father, namely Islam.
Reply
What is shocking is that Obama has so completely and in absolute terms denied he is Muslim - when the truth is that was his birth religion. After all, there is nothing wrong with Islam or being a Muslim, with over 1 billion adherents. The oddity here is to have a man so adamantly denying who he is and his heritage. This is why so many Americans are getting very suspicious of Obama - if he cannot even tell the simple truth about who he is, reasonable people ask, what other skeletons rest in his closet. -

Why do you say that Obama's birth certificate has to be the most scrutinized ever. When did the state department vet Obama birth certificate? It would help us all a lot if you could produce information on when Obama's birth certificate was vetted by the state department. Also, can you tell us why Obama just doesn't produce the real document? -

Obama's birth certificate has to be the most scrutinized birth certificate ever. If it's good enough for the state department, it's good enough for me. Let's see McCain's birth certificate. Barack Obama is a Christian. He say's he is therefore he is. You cons need to decide whether he is a muslim or a member of Wright's church. He can't be both. I would like you to tell me why being a muslim would make him unqualified anyway. Soitenly, what religion are you? Maybe you could post a certificate to prove what you are. You should change your avatar because you are an insult to Curley. You are a stooge though.

'Obama's Kenyan birth father: In Islam, religion passes from the father to the child. Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. (1936–1982) was a Muslim who named his boy Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. Only Muslim children are named "Hussein".'
Reply
Sigh. Moron. Let me go through this is small, easy to digest steps:
1) For starters, the candidate's religion is irrelevant, so the entire discussion is ridiculous.
2) It is irrelevant what the position of Islam is on identification of a child's purported religion. This tells you nothing about the actual beliefs *of the child*. People choose religions. Religions do not choose people.
3) Simply because a name may be used by adherents of a given religion does not mean that others do not also use it. No one reviews names on birth certificates, and vets whether the parents are 'entitled' to use a particular given name. By your logic, every woman named Athena would be an active adherent to the religion of ancient Greece, every woman named Brigit would worship the gods of the Irish, and every woman named Elaine would follow the ways of the Welsh.

Obama's Indonesian family: His stepfather, Lolo Soetoro, was also a Muslim. In fact, as Obama's half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng explained to Jodi Kantor of the New York Times: "My whole family was Muslim, and most of the people I knew were Muslim." An Indonesian publication, the Banjarmasin Post reports a former classmate, Rony Amir, recalling that "All the relatives of Barry's father were very devout Muslims."

All this stuff that was said about Obama's birthplace and upbringing was taken from the article entitled: Barack Obama's Muslim Childhood, from frontpagemag.com.
It's not fair for anyone to continue to badger me about this... I didn't write this article!

Posters like Y_soitely, Wolf2007, Klarisa and Nixie spent all their energy telling unimpressive lies about Obama;
Reply
when they could have told us impressive truths about John McCain.
You can read their frustration and rage now that the lies don't seem to have the effect they used to.
But lies are viruses; and even a country as naive as the US, can develope an immunity to this crap;
Such virus-spreaders deserve, not just defeat,
but the crushing disinterest of a nation that has serious work to do.-

John S. McCain is a fine American;
a war hero, and a hero in peace. .
He doesn't ever back down from a fight,

I believe Obama was being raised as a Muslim when he lived in Indonesia. When he left there he went to live with his grandparents and we haven't been told what religion he practiced until he turned up in Chicago. There he joined Rev. Wright's pseudo Christian Black Nationalist congregation. Which he most likely joined for political reasons. No, I really don't think Obama is a Muslim or a Christian. I think he's a Marxist and Marxists don't need religion.

Is that why Rev. Wright warned Obama that if he joined his church all the other black churches would not like it? That is from his own book. You are not talking about the normal Black Christian church. -

In his autobiography, Dreams of My Father, Obama relates how he got into trouble for making faces during Koranic studies, thereby revealing he was a Muslim, for Indonesian students in his day attended religious classes according to their faith. Indeed, Obama still retains knowledge from that class: Nicholas D. Kristof of the New York Times, reports that Obama "recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them [to Kristof] with a first-rate accent."

I guess I'm way in the minority here, but I don't give an airborne rodent's behind what religion the man is...but then, I've never been so narrow in my thinking as to actually believe only religious people can be moral. History of full of prime examples of how utterly immoral the most religious among us can be. What I care about is whether or not Mr. Obama can provide the change for this country that I am looking for. I know darn well that McBush cannot, so for me, the choice is clear...regardless of whether one's father was Muslim or whatever. 8)

And factcheck is such an impartial source. I found several errors in what they have reported. They found only 3 mistakes in what Biden said but a bunch of what Palin said. The Republican group posted about 15 mistakes Biden made quoting him and what the checkable facts were. While partisan they showed where the facts came from and they were correct.

Obama, without any doubt what so ever, is the absolutely worst choice for president American has ever seen. It boggles my mind that he is even still in this race for president. What are you Democrats thinking? Hillary would have been a 1000 times better choice. At least we know who Hillary is and what she stands for. With Obama, who flippin' knows what that creepy freak is up to!!??

Have you ever met anyone who has had personal contact with Barack OBama. I have. All have come away with very positive feelings about the man and his sincerity. One is a lifelong republican that has held high elective state office and actually chaired the state republican committee. That person says that Bush, Cheney, and Rove have destroyed the republican party and that McCain and Palin would be worse. That's a pretty condemning statement from one who is close to the issues.

As snide as you were a few hours ago toward another poster asking for documentation that Obama was born in the United States (which I provided for you), I think it is only fair that you now answer that posters question and produce the documentation requested. You should have no problem providing it, if what you have been ranting about is the truth...right?

I think poorly of radical muslims. And of people who try to cover up their islamic heritage. If it's completely benign, why hide it?

I don't care if Obama took Koran classes and went to Mosque with his step-dad when he was little. My dad took me to Mass a couple times, I memorized the Hail Mary and Our Father, but I'm not Catholic.

Muslim or christian, I don't think this one will be decided before the election. But I do think Obama's choice of the church he attended is atypical of most black congregations, although I have attended more black funerals than church services. -
