It is not startling or controversial to learn that in Islam, as in Christianity, the religion of a child is considered to be that of the father. It therefore is not startling at all that Obama's religion at birth was that of his father, namely Islam.

What is shocking is that Obama has so completely and in absolute terms denied he is Muslim - when the truth is that was his birth religion. After all, there is nothing wrong with Islam or being a Muslim, with over 1 billion adherents. The oddity here is to have a man so adamantly denying who he is and his heritage. This is why so many Americans are getting very suspicious of Obama - if he cannot even tell the simple truth about who he is, reasonable people ask, what other skeletons rest in his closet.-

People lie, but Obama has been a Christian for quite some time, is comfortable asserting he's a Christian and has acted more like a Christian than any GOP member I've run across.

As an American he is entitled to the laws and constitutional protection of this land. I don't believe there is an established releigion here so the customs and/or bylaws of any religion do not apply here, They especailly don't belong in a presidental election.
What is even funnier is that John McCain said Barack Obama is a Christian just the other day.

Obama's father was apostate at the time of Barack's birth, so he was not born Muslim. His upbringing was largely secular. In fact, Obama likely received more formal religious instruction at the Catholic school he attended.
I don't think anyone really knows what faith is about until well into their teens anyway. My early school records probably list my faith as Episcopal, that doesn't make me one now, and I don't think it made me one then either.-

You are ignoring that for a good part of the time he was in Indonesia he was raised Muslim and went to a mosque regularly. He learned the prayers. So for him to say NEVER is a lie. If he would have just admitted that for a while he was raised a Muslim nothing else would have been said. The problem is that he lied.

"...went to a mosque regularly." It was a few times. I went with my mother to church on holidays. I even recited a couple of prayers. I can recall the Lord's Prayer. Obama never said he never went to a mosque. He has said he was never a Muslim. He has certainly affirmed many in his family were Muslim, but he was not 'raised a Muslim' any more than I was 'raised an Episcopalian'. Church was never anything more than a boring bunch of mumbo-jumbo. One has to AFFIRM one is a Muslim, which Obama never did.

And all this time I've thought that a child becomes Christian when he/she is christened, and even then has to undergo religious education and various ceremonies to become a full-fledged Christian. I've learned something new again.

You are incorrect. I was speaking this weekend to a woman from Illinois, who had voted for Obama and had been a fervent supporter of his until a few weeks ago. Sarah Palin's candidacy made her an Undecided, and she has begun to be suspicious of some of Obama's claims and associations. She lamented his secretive attitude, telling me that they had all liked him so much in Illinois, saying he was "So GQ!" But now that she sees how many lies he's told, how many things he seems to be hiding, how many questionable relationships he has, she doesn't trust him any more. She wants to know what else he's hiding. She and her husband have changed their minds about voting for him.

1) For starters, the candidate's religion is irrelevant, so the entire discussion is ridiculous.
2) It is irrelevant what the position of Islam is on identification of a child's purported religion. This tells you nothing about the actual beliefs *of the child*. People choose religions. Religions do not choose people.
3) Simply because a name may be used by adherents of a given religion does not mean that others do not also use it. No one reviews names on birth certificates, and vets whether the parents are 'entitled' to use a particular given name. By your logic, every woman named Athena would be an active adherent to the religion of ancient Greece, every woman named Brigit would worship the gods of the Irish, and every woman named Elaine would follow the ways of the Welsh.

I think some Obama supporters here have been wallowing too long in the mire with McCain supporters and picking up some of their habits

I believe Obama was being raised as a Muslim when he lived in Indonesia. When he left there he went to live with his grandparents and we haven't been told what religion he practiced until he turned up in Chicago. There he joined Rev. Wright's pseudo Christian Black Nationalist congregation. Which he most likely joined for political reasons. No, I really don't think Obama is a Muslim or a Christian. I think he's a Marxist and Marxists don't need religion.

History of full of prime examples of how utterly immoral the most religious among us can be. And factcheck is such an impartial source. I found several errors in what they have reported. They found only 3 mistakes in what Biden said but a bunch of what Palin said. The Republican group posted about 15 mistakes Biden made quoting him and what the checkable facts were. While partisan they showed where the facts came from and they were correct.

Have you ever met anyone who has had personal contact with Barack OBama. I have. All have come away with very positive feelings about the man and his sincerity. One is a lifelong republican that has held high elective state office and actually chaired the state republican committee. That person says that Bush, Cheney, and Rove have destroyed the republican party and that McCain and Palin would be worse. That's a pretty condemning statement from one who is close to the issues.

To address the video itself, the person presenting it has no actual qualifications at all, and makes nothing more than a series of completely unsupported assertions, many of which are simply wrong, while pretending to speak as an authority.

1) The speaker presents his vast and unassailable credentials as someone "having done some genealogical research." This is the equivalent of saying "I don't know anything about legal documents, but last night I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express...
2) The person bases his analysis on his own birth certificate, which being issued in a different state, (requiring different forms), and which has been multiply amended.-

Here's a real world example of why:
New York issues a Certificate of Birth Registration (a form vs68 of various revisions, if anyone cares), not a Notice of Registration of Birth, as issued by Connecticut. A New York Certificate of Birth Registration, appears upon examination to be similar to a Connecticut Notice of Registration of Birth, in that it is not the Certificate of Birth, but a notice that one is on file. But, it also includes a statement that said Certificate "is evidence of age, parentage, and place of birth and should be carefully preserved."
The CBR does have legal standing. The State Department will issue Passports based upon CBRs.
Connecticut's Notice of Registration of birth, on the other hand (at least the one displayed), states that "the full record of this birth has been carefully filed and is preserved in the archives of the State of Connecticut." That may be why the speaker claims that his Connecticut NRB has no legal standing, while my New York CBR does. it's a different legal document.
I'm sure Hawaii has it's own particular method of dealing with birth filings, as well.
(Yes, they all serve a similar function. So do one dollar bills and one-hundred dollar bills. That doesn't make them the same, nor do I think anyone would suggest they should be considered to have exactly the same value.)-

4) For all of the speakers rambling, the date of Registration has no relevance at all to the authenticity of a birth document. It all depends upon how quickly the parents and hospital filled out the forms, and when they were filed. (If we're going to speculate wildly, which is what the speaker is doing, we could just as easily suggest that the hospital and courthouse could have been next to one another.)

The 'date filed' is just that, the date filed, not necessarily the date the forms were processed, nor necessarily the date they were issued. In short, like everything else, in and of itself it's meaningless.
5) The 'seal' that the speaker discusses as being 'clearly visible' on their own documents are completely invisible in several frames in their own video. This is because embossed notary seals often, contrary to the speakers assertion, simply often do not show up well upon photocopied or scanned documents.
Also, contrary to the speakers assertion, the resolution and method of scanning can have a significant effect upon the visibility of the seal. They even admit to rescanning the documents at various levels of magnification in order to better show off what they consider to be relevant details, something not done for the copy scanned and presented online by the Obama campaign.
Regardless of this, the whole point of Notarization is that an Officer of the Court validates the document upon which they affix their seal as being genuine, making it the equivalent of the original document. At it's absolute simplest, The State Department would not, and could not accept any form of Birth Registration that was not notarized.
Pay attention to that distinction. Regardless of what the speaker is attempting (poorly) to analyze (a pdf file, not an original document), the documents presented to the Secretaries of State were not a simple pdf. They had full access to the physical documents. Something this dweeb did not.
6) Hand-waving, and wild uneducated speculation aside, it all boils down to the simplest of truths. The documents presented by Barak Obama to all fifty Secretaries of State, and to the State Department along with his fillings for candidacy have been accepted by ALL of them. By people who DO have professional training and experience examining such documents. AND they have been accepted by the Republican party, as well, or this discussion wouldn't even be going on, since that's a baseline qualification, so basic that he would never have been considered as a candidate, let alone be the Nominee for the Democrats, if this was not the case.
So, really, it's simple. You can believe a credential-less nutjob on YouTube, or you can believe a lot of trained officers of the Court, many of whom, by the way, are Republicans. John McCain himself thinks this is a complete non-issue, and he would have the most all all to gain, were this not the case.
I think, for the anyone rational, anyway that should pretty much sum it up.
End of discussion.
So, you may want to check to see whether you're wearing your tinfoil beanie shiny side in, instead of shiny side out.

I think it's pretty clear you're simply looking for any source at all that will tell you what you want to hear, and that you don't really care about any of the actual facts.

I don't care if Obama took Koran classes and went to Mosque with his step-dad when he was little. My dad took me to Mass a couple times, I memorized the Hail Mary and Our Father, but I'm not Catholic.

Your comment doesn't work because Obama has lied about how muslim-y his upbringing was. We know he has attended a mosque, although he originally denied it. He has tried, by omission, to minimize it, and while I understand, given the current climate and some people's tendancy to lump all muslims together as terrorists, I think he would make better headway among Independants and even conservatives if he addressed it more openly, instead of trying to ignore it and hope it goes away. It is the hush-hush attitude that makes people uneasy.
