The republicons have let the racist genie out of the bottle. And now they have to ride the tiger.

I would like to think that McCain would lose this election on his own,"merits", but adding a dimwit to the ticket sure won't hurt.

Picking Palin sure says something about his judgment (or absolute lack thereof).

Letting her ramble on so long with her Palinopsia in clear view shows even more about McCain's poor judgment. I think we all owe Sarah Palin a great debt of gratitude for showing what a McCain presidency would be like.

Look at her list of lies repeated over and over. "I told Congress thanks but no thanks for that bridge to nowhere." "Obama pals around with terrorists." "Obama voted 94 times to raise taxes." "Even on middle class every day working Americans making $42,000 a year, he voted to raise those taxes." And the list just goes on and on.

The most troublesome thing is that Tod Palin and his "contractor friends" built their new luxury home in Wasilla at exactly the same time that Sarah's new $14.7 million sports complex went up. One of the leading contractors on that project was the same guy who did much of the free work on Senator Ted Steven's home. No proof of any wrongdoing -- yet. And since building permits are not required in Alaska and records are slim to none, it may be tough to prove anything. But does it pass the smell test?

He would have had a far greater chance of winning had he picked Pawlenty. It is hard to even imagine he had a lot of say in choosing his running mate. I'm sure it was all based on opinion polls and strategic positioning from his advisors. He should grow a pair and ditch her. It isn't too late... well timewise not too late...but perhaps politically too late. He should save some face and get a real human as a running mate.

If he were smart, he'd drop kick her off of his ticket. This is just so absurd.

" Her supporters think that if the Republican ticket loses on November 4, she should run for president in 2012."

I'll say a little prayer that that happens.

Sarah Palin is a bigot and has spread it to the people who have wanted to hear what she has to say, but they really wanted to hear it from McCain. When he didn't deliver, she did, and now she has that crazy bunch of rednecks worked into such a froth they are calling for Obama's assassination.

That woman is a pure idiot. McCain would have probably stood a chance if he hadn't chosen her as his running mate. People wanted a woman, she braged about her pit bull status, and she is a bully, no mistaking that. She is feeding this frenzy and anything that happens, is on her head, whether it's McCain's loss or an attempt on Obama's life by some of her rabid fans.

The problem with such a crafty opportunist - as Palin - is you seldom know what they
REALLY think - because they will do ANYTHING to win.
What ever will get them elected................that's their stance.
I shudder to think that Americans could be looking forward to her running for POTUS.

I'll say this about McCain not backing this crap.

If he would have stood up to Bush and his jackals this way I would have voted for the man !!!!!!!!

He has finally found his balls and is standing up and saying hell no !!!! Good for you John !!!

Yes Obama is a decent man, and you know what John you are showing what you once were too.

That is a John McCain that would have been able to reach across the aisles. An honorable John McCain, the one who didn't let his drive get in the way of his honor and beliefs.

To bad we didn't see this earlier John, You coulda been a contender !!!!!

I couldn't agree with you more. Heck 8 years ago I was going to vote for a Republican named McCain. Then he lost the primary to what I equate to a shady used car salesman.

i wasn't going to vote for him, but i sure as heck respected him. i lost all respect when he rolled over for bush in the 2000 primary after being "swiftboated" and then sucked up to the administration for the next 8 years.

mccain's defense of obama's character is the first time in a long time that i've felt respect for him.

Absolutely. It is ironic, isn't it? I've more respect for him as a man and a candidate in the last week vs. the last year. As I have said many times here, if we had the John McCain of 2000, this election would have been over months ago. I certainly would have voted for him. The question seems to be whether the republicans wanted the John McCain of 2000. It would appear the answer would be no. It seems he needed to be Rovatized to make him acceptable to the party as a presidential candidate.

A shame for the country, the party, and most importantly, for the man.

Is about time he stood up to her, I was wondering if he would say anything or maybe his wife, I'm not Rep but I have to respect the man for taking the gloves off thats the way to go. If she would run in 2012 against Hillary, well.....she had beetter get prepard and always have her bags packed because Hillary would come at her from all for corners of the earth, no comparison hillary has her beat and Palin hasn't even started running for president .

I feel exactly the same way. No one wanted McCain to win in 2000 more than I did. But since then, he has only made an ass out of himself. I swore that I would never support him after that.
Specifically, it was his stand with ted kennedy regarding the border fence, and illegal immigration that turned me against him 100%.

What is sad is that McCain is now relying on the SAME PEOPLE who trashed him in the 2000 primaries AND HE KNOWS IT!! You can see it in his eyes some times. He knows he sold out to the devil to try and get elected. Like at that one campaign stop where he had to grab the mike out of that right wing bitches hand. What is really scary is that if he wins you know damn well who he is indebted to. God help us if he does win. Pray, please pray, to God that he stays healthy for four years. If he can't complete his term guess who gets the launch codes?? God have mercy on us!!

If McCain drops Palin from the ticket, it could salvage his reputation. He picked a person who could not articulate the issues and only knows how to attack and attack some more.

Now we really see what the base of the republican party is. A scary bunch.

Where are the apologists? Why aren't they here telling us how "christian" she is? Why aren't they talking to us about her daughter getting married to the boy who knocked her up and how he isn't being forced into it? Why aren't they warning me about the illegal immigrants coming to kill me or the "gays" who will destroy my marriage?

I disagree. I think there were expectations in line as you suggest, but I think she became a bit rogue. I think you can really see it when McCain sat in on the second part of the Couric interview to try to manage her.

I really think the issue lies with Palin's belief in her righteous destiny. That can be a very bad combination. My concern is how far she would be willing to take that belief. It is the foundation of the terrorist threat we currently face.

I want a leader that makes decisions based on sound, well-thought out logic, not a belief that god is on their side in whatever they do.

we'll just disagree on that one.. even McCain is NOT saying anything that hasn't been well thought out by his advisors....

Obama either and I'd suspect that's why Biden has been under wraps.. he just doesn't follow the script well....

Palin did exactly as told.. then McCain steps in to be the good guy.. .. the calmer.. if you will...

Picking Palin sure says something about McCain's judgment (or absolute lack thereof).

Letting Palin ramble on so long with her Palinopsia in clear view shows even more about McCain's poor judgment.

Add to that the fact she claimed that the Troopergate investigation was a partisan witch hunt. The Legislature's committee doing the investigation consisted of 10 Republicans and 4 Democrats, and they unanimously found her guilty of violating Alaska ethics law. In response, she said, "I am so pleased that I have been cleared of all wrongdoing."

Clearly, the woman has a serious problem telling the difference between an outright lie and something even close to the truth.

I have doubts that McCain really is against this. I mean, someone said "terrorist" at his rally and he didn't say a thing.

And when that woman said Obama was an Arab, anyone notice that he didn't explicitly say he was not?

I agree with will1313 this is a set up. I don't trust the RNC at all. They are too good at campaigning to appear this bad. Opinions on candidates oscillate during the campaign, peaks and valley's. I would not be surprised to find out that the RNC artificially created a valley just prior to the election just so they could generate a peak right on election day. Too bad they can't be as good at governing as they are at campaigning.

There is no fight in McCain. It was probably tortured out of him in Hannoi to the point where he can't due any confrontation. So, what it comes down to is, we either have to pick a broken man afraid to defend himself, or, a socialist and a terrorist appeaser. God help us.

So, do you expect him to fight when he knows what you want him to fight about is wrong? If so, that is troubling.

I'm all for McCain going after Obama in areas of the economy, foreign policy, the military, spending, etc... Quite frankly, I feel there are many areas that Obama is vulnerable. The trouble is that you want McCain to turn on the Rovian tactic machine, much like Rove himself turned on McCain in SC in 2000. Kudos to McCain for standing up for another American, even if he is a political opponent. That is one of the few events this year that makes me proud to be an American. If I were Obama and win, I might consider making McCain a cabinet member.

McCain needs to stop listening to advisers and just be honest with himself and the country. He needs to go back to being the guy that was respected on both sides of the aisle.

I am having a hard time understanding where people get Obama is Muslim! Just because of his middle name? So by that logic could someone with a German last name be called a Nazi? And how is he a Muslim and yet everyone wants to start talking about his Christian Pastor? Just wondering a bit...

thanks tx, i had a grandfather with a german last name working in an american aircraft factory in WWII who experienced name prejudice. the fact that his family had served in the union army in the civil war didn't seem to carry any weight.

People think Obama is a muslim because his father was muslim..and many people believe that if you are born into the muslim religion you will always be a muslim..

... nobody knows for sure, however, if he meant "Election or Erection."

Ah, politics. McCain choose Palin because of her red-meat appeal to the base--and the base bit bigtime.

Only problem is, Palin's demagogic tactics alienated many thinking Repubs, not to mention all those of whatever affiliation who saw her and her MO for what it was.

Solution? Distance yourself from your own Frankenstein, who turned out to be a little too good at her appalling, slanderous job.

Meanwhile, the trogs, having been given permission to act out, hang on to someone "just like them," i. e., who comes complete with their own sliverlike worldview, small-town mean-spiritedness, primitive religious beliefs and bigotry.

                                                    Ah, politics.

The choice of Palin on the ticket for the GOP was the worst mistake they could have ever made. Besides overshadowing the animosity between the Clinton and Obama factions of the democrats by giving them such an obnoxious figure head to focus on, her picture will be shown in every election, national or local to remind Americans of the depths of depravity the GOP was willing to go to motivate their base.
