"The reception for former Clinton supporters, which also was attended by Rick Davis, the McCain campaign manager, was spearheaded by Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a former telecommunications entrepreneur and “Hillraiser” who brought in more than $100,000 for Mrs. Clinton’s campaign; Calvin Fayard, also a former Hillraiser and longtime Democratic donor from Louisiana, and Miguel Lausell, a former senior political adviser to the Clinton campaign from Puerto Rico.
Reply
Other prominent former Clinton supporters in attendance included John Coale, a former Hillraiser, Washington lawyer and husband of Fox News television host Greta Van Susteren.
Everyone at the reception contributed $28,500 to McCain-Palin Victory 2008, a joint fund-raising committee for the Republican."

Red, it's not politically correct to talk about males in sexually derogatory ways in public. The culture still only condones perpetrating such attacks on females. You're a little "too" progressive, and the majority won't stand for it.

I agree that the media lies regularly but I am confused at this whole campaign. We have McCain who has been a major thorn in Bush's back side for almost 8 years. He was the media's darling. Then you had Clinton who again was a part of the media love fest now you have Barrack. Another media love fest. As a conservative, none of this lot would be my first choice. Very confusing how the media has selected the candidates of both parties.

Okay I am voting for Cynthia because I don't support McCain and I will not vote for a sexist prick and his followers, but the thought of you and more sexist pricks like you leaving the country is pushing me towards voting McCain. If JJ Jr, Obama, Dean, Kerry and DB would all threaten to leave if Obama looses I would go and vote McCain tomorrow and everyday until the election. Heck I would even vote McCain twice on election day for that.

I heard Hillary Clinton speak after Obama won the third debate. I must admit that I hadn't liked her very much before, but she earned my admiration with that interview in which she unconditionally supported Obama. She showed that she can put the country's interests ahead of her own ambitions, and that's admirable.

The last thing the USA needs at this time is an Amateur. There is no time for on the job training. More Socialist debt is definitely not what we need. Research what and who you vote for, check your resources, do not buy into the hype, think and reason for yourself. Being what one "guppy" called an old f*rt, I have already survived this type situation(Carteryears), and really shiver at the thought of having to go through it again. Therefore the inexperience definitely concerns me. The Socialist leaning is a big red flag. His record shows nothing to recommend him. Absolutely correct. So to vote for the McCain/Palin ticket would be to put easily manipulated and uninformed individuals into the White House, We did that in 2000 and 2004 but NOT in 2008. Americans have learned their lesson from doing that. Obama/Biden 08

Are you kidding me. McCain was almost ousted from the Republican party because he didn't play along. Look at his years of experience vs Obama's but more than that look at their voting record. Obama votes present rather than incur his party's wrath--what kind of leader is this! And, Biden, his own party never wanted him as a candidate even though he tried, and tried, and tried. Wake up America! Why don't actions speak louder than words today?

Truth is it is more of a Democrat thing, though. Most of the "ultra" "old family" wealthy are Democrats, including the new Hollywood types. Just to mention a few, your Kennedys, Rockefellers, Kerrys, they want to hold it tight and take the hard working citizens hard earned cash to pay for it. Guess it is easier to say, "These hand-outs need to be made, and you need to pay for it".
Then the new "have-nots" like Oprah, Buffett and Gates; who made it themselves, seem to be the ones who give back the most themselves. (Not figure out ways to make everyone else pay for their so-called noblesse oblige ..)-

McCain was arrogant and rude, VERY RUDE and VERY disrespectful. He appeared beaten and pathetic with the rolling eyes and interuptions. Obama directly answered any and every attempt by McCain to draw him from his game....didn't happen. Obama was calm, cool, and collected, as he always is. This is a man who actually THINKS, before he speaks, chooses his words wisely and appropriately, something this country as been greatly missing, He was neither rude or impatient towards McCain. A pure pleaseure to see him at work. How sad for McCain that he thought acting llike a selfish child would further his cause. I beleive the opposite will continue to occur, I think people are realizing what a problem McCain would be in the whitehouse. I beleive we watched McCain throw a hissy fit on national television. Sarah Palin requisitioned quite a bit of money for Alaska's aerial shooting of wolves program. According to the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund, she is an enemy to animals there. Palin also led the way this past legislative session on measures to increase hunting in Alaska including by destroying in as cruel a way as possible wolves, wolverines and brown bears. She's a hypocrite!! Palin says she's pro-life but then contradicts herself by supporting and taking part in the killing of our animals and wildlife. Sarah Palin your a damned hypocrite!! You got a fight coming Palin!!!! She offered a bounty of $150 for each left front leg of freshly killed wolves. As mayor of Wasilla, she made rape victims pay for their own forensic evidence kits. She used $400,000 of state money to fund a propaganda campaign in support of aerial hunting. She is opposed to listing the polar bear as an endangered species because it might limit oil exploitation. While mayor of Wasilla she tried to fire the city librarian because the librarian refused to censor books. She is presently under investigation in Alaska for abuse of power. She is opposed to listing the Cook Inlet beluga whale as an endangered species. She has no international experience and only obtained her first passport just last year (2007). Click on link to see just how coldhearted Sara Palin really is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6T85cOGc8L0

It's not too hard to see why very wealthy people would support McCain. They're the people his tax cuts are aimed at. Many of them don't seem to realize that the tax cuts for the rich and falling real income for the middle class have brought us to the brink of depression. Wealth isn't built from the top. It's built on the shoulders of the working class, and if you bankrupt the middle class, you bankrupt the nation.
Reply
Since the beginning of Reganomics, taxes on the very wealthy have been cut from 69.125% to 35%. http://www.truthandpolitics.org/top-rates.php
The top 1% now owns nearly 50% of all wealth in the nation and earns 20% of all income. The middle class has seen real income fall 8% in just the last 8 years. And McSame wants to make the income disparity even worse with his tax plans. You want to talk about class warfare, if you are in the middle class, you are under attack and you have been for 30 years. -

Anti-democratic nature of US capitalism is being exposed
Bretton Woods was the system of global financial management set up at the end of the second World War to ensure the interests of capital did not smother wider social concerns in post-war democracies. It was hated by the US neoliberals - the very people who created the banking crisis.
...The immediate origins of the current meltdown lie in the collapse of the housing bubble supervised by Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan, which sustained the struggling economy through the Bush years by debt-based consumer spending along with borrowing from abroad. But the roots are deeper. In part they lie in the triumph of financial liberalisation in the past 30 years - that is, freeing the markets as much as possible from government regulation.
...A study by international economists Winfried Ruigrok and Rob van Tulder 15 years ago found that at least 20 companies in the Fortune 100 would not have survived if they had not been saved by their respective governments, and that many of the rest gained substantially by demanding that governments "socialise their losses," as in today's taxpayer-financed bailout. Such government intervention "has been the rule rather than the exception over the past two centuries", they conclude.
... The financial market "underprices risk" and is "systematically inefficient", as economists John Eatwell and Lance Taylor wrote a decade ago, warning of the extreme dangers of financial liberalisation and reviewing the substantial costs already incurred - and proposing solutions, which have been ignored. One factor is failure to calculate the costs to those who do not participate in transactions. These "externalities" can be huge. Ignoring systemic risk leads to more risk-taking than would take place in an efficient economy, even by the narrowest measures.
In a functioning democratic society, a political campaign would address such fundamental issues, looking into root causes and cures, and proposing the means by which people suffering the consequences can take effective control.
