It's not a poor argument for making the case that Bush is the worst kind of 'socialist' this country has ever seen, redistributing the country's wealth into the pockets of corporations and criminals on wall street. The last people who should see monetary gain for their actions.

Elected officials get a great health care plan, courtesy of the tax payer, and that is socialism; just don't give it to the tax payers though.

Which piece of legislation was that? I think you're referring to the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act. Allowing banks and insurance companies to merge is hardly 'nationalizing', quite the opposite, it is removing government regulation.

But perhaps you are referring to something else?

Obama is a socialist and his supporters should
wake up and vote for Sen. McCain too
Sen. McCain should continue to make it hot for
Obama and win the election. Not only is spread-

reputation which McCain should continue to zero

McCain didn't win anything with his 'pat' answers that you could tell were overly practiced and thrown out to questions they didn't quite fit. He did well enough, though, that he shouldn't be too embarassed. I wonder, though, if the shaking in his hands was being nervous or early onset alzheimers. It had that circular twitch aspect to it that I so often see in hospice work.

As for socialism, like most neo-CONS, you wouldn't know it if it bit you on your big fat arse. BushCo has redistributed our wealth into the pockets of corporations and corrupt bank officials, not to mention a wall street which played loose with the laws and lost (and should have lost). Not to mention the nationalization of banks. *That* is socialism. Of the very worst kind.
I don't know where you poorly educated morons get your information. No wait. I do. McCain/Palin talking points. Which have been show to be out and out lies. I don't want a liar to be President. Especially not one who continues to lie and froth at the mouth when called on his lies.-

McCain won the debate with only one line, "I am not President Bush, if you wanted to run against him you should have run four years ago". Even the pundits on CNN agree with that one and got a few smiles. Buttt, being the CNN/DNC that they are had to wrap up by saying that McCain was only on top for the first half.

As an independent who's voting for Obama, I'd have to say McCain won the first half of the debate and the rest was a draw. Obama became better at defense during the latter half and was able to deflect McCain's attacks. Problem for McCain is he didn't do anything to stop Obama's momentum. Short of a major scandal, Obama is going to win this thing.

I still don't understand why so many of my fellow Americans are against socialism. France, Britain, Canada... all socialist countries. Those countries have excellent health care and education. The worst thing we have to say about Canada is that they are beer drinking, maple syrup eating and polite... sounds horrible! I am not saying I want to be exactly like these countries as we have so much more to offer but we won't be able to advance as a nation if we are so sick and uneducated that we can't stand up and fight against our biggest problems. If socialism is going to get me health care and a better education I am all for it.

I did not mean my comment to be taken as an offence. I have several family members and friends in Canada and would never say that we are superior to any country. By my name you should've realized that this. What I meant by the comment was that we have a large land mass with a very large population. I believe the population of Canada is around 30 million, whereas the US is around 300 million. We literarlly we have more to offer because there are more people, more businesses, properties, schools etc. If we could stream line the political and social policies we could offer a lot more to the world.-

Obama won. McCain used the same attacks and when Obama explained them away McCain just repeated the same attacks. McCain claims to not be a continuation of Bush but does nothing to show how he is different. Even his health care plan is one laid out by Bush in his State of the Union speech 2 years ago.

Maybe if he hadn't focused on destroying Obamas character and encouraging others to do the same ...he may have done better. He didn't though, he was unable to see how this would reflect badly on him and his party ..... He was destined to fail and he set thr path to his failure.

without the negative campaigning, McCain had nothing but 'he's inexperienced and I was a POW' in addition to the traditional GOP platform [party of morality, pro-gun, pro-life, fiscal conservatives [!] against the 'tax and spend party' etc.]
not a lot to run on, ESPECIALLY when you've got the albatross of Iraq and the current financial crisis around your neck like the proverbial millstone, and when you yourself have said you voted along the lines of the party and president in power at the time of those two things, over 90% of the time
there was just no way to distance himself from Bush after he admitted that 90+ thing. Too clear, too believable-and McCain said it himself, now way to refute it
I think the negative campaigning galvanized his in-the-bag supporters mostly, but may have gotten a few on-the-fencers' votes thru fear and smear and made it a little closer
but barring a major CLEAR AND BELIEVABLE scandal from Obama, McCain was just a deckhand on a sinking ship, doomed from the get-

''over 90% of the time''
Reply
now that I think about it, it's kinda like karma bit him in the butt:
if he woulda stayed true to himself and not buckled under to the people who stabbed him in the back in a dirty 2000 campaign, he might not be losing in a dirty 2008 campaign
by selling out and going along to get along with that 90+ voting-along-with-Bush record, there was just no way to overcome the attachment to Bush and party and retrieve his 'independent maverick' reputation from long ago
somewhere along the line he went from proud upright maverick to the broken shouldered man we see today-and he did it to himself. Maybe he felt his age and heard that political clock ticking away his ambitions, and then kissed party butt to get the nomination, since playing it straight and proud in 2000 didn't work-I don't know for sure
But I can see a lesson in there somewhere for all of us -

There is actually a growing Movement of Middle-Class to Upper-Middle Class taxpaying workers, that see rising Entitlement costs and MORE new Entitlements buy Obama, that will cause MASSIVE RETIREMENT, either Early Retirement or take their Retirements ASAP, so as NOT to have to pay Obama's Tax and Spend on Entitlements Agenda.
Obama is classicly Open Book, Racist, Revengeful, Socialist Pro Gigantic Government Entitlements.
His love for Swollen and Bloated Pork Barrell Entitlements, will cause the US of Entitlements to EMPLODE!
When will Obama cause the US to EMPLODE From Entitlement Overbloat? Between 2010 & 2011 for sure, no later.
McCain will CUT THESE BLOATED Programs, because SSI's Pay Zero Taxes! They go to college free, their whole SSI family get's to go to college free. Geeze, you should have read the real story. Yes, he is not a licensed plumber but rather working on the owner's license which a lot of them do and are just as proficient as ones with the paper and sometimes moreso. Joe wants to buy the business and it doesn't matter if he's licensed or not but I strongly suggest that he gets licensed. After that purchase he will probably be in that income bracket.

Depends on what field you study in. Some people go for the easy degree and expect to make lots of money right out of college. I have a friend that has a masters degree and is over qualified for the jobs she applied for in her field. If everyone has a college degree wouldn't certain jobs be below their paygrade? I liked that post-made me think of this line
Reply
'eat the rich'
I also thought of that movie 'Gangs of New York', I think, were the rich were allowed to buy their sons' way out of the civil war with 500 bucks, and the poor rioted and vandalized the rich houses
also a quote that goes something like, 'amass a mountain of gold and no army can defend it'
and the Buddhist thing 'posses nothing so that nothing will possess you' and attachment brings suffering etc
Lennon: 'you better free your mind instead'
just a lot of echoes from that post
from a less gestalten point of view, 'you didn't earn the money', makes me think of the expression 'old money'. A lot of the rich didn't earn that money either, and other ones earned it by exploiting the poor thru labor, and a lot of us poor give up our wealth voluntarily thru voting for hawks and wars, and otherwise coughing up our cash for dreams and fantasies [confer the wealthy founder of enzyte and ol' smilin' Bob, frowning from prison now I believe]
there's just a whole lot to this rich/poor class thing -

While I absolutely still support Obama, McCain looked the best he ever has in a debate...& yet...still not good enough. The only way he saw to come out looking stronger was in his flailing attempts to attack Obama again, reiterating his smear ads, because he has clearly given up impressing us with his ability to stay on point. (Similar to his running mate when she was in the debate). Obama's ability to stay calm & on point & focused on the issue at hand...resilient, making decisions & answering questions with absolute clarity, calmness, yet with compassion & the awareness that it is going to be a process. This is who I want to see running this country the next 4 -8 years. McCain doesn't even look well. & you know if something were to happen to him who we would have in office...How scary is that

ACORN will never be prosecuted under Obama, and the CROOKS in the Grand Theft Demogrants will walk, and continue to Greedily Steal, Lavishing MORE AND MORE Entitlements, to keep the masses happy, but it will not be enough Income to Match the Put Out of All that Tax Free Money.

What you better worry about is:

Alot like the Original Back To the Land #1 with Cosby, Still, Nash & Young playing in the background but with a Twist.
We are EX-Demogrants, workers that are saying, "We Have Had Enough of Demogrants and Entitlement OVERSPENDING"
And, we are going in Mass to become living independent of Utilities, on our own lands, yes we will pay property taxes, BUT FORGET OUR PAYROLL TAXES, We are Bailing Out On YOU PEOPLE that have been getting away with way to much Gratis/Free for much too long, and Obama is the Straw that Broke the Taxpayers Back!

I can appreciate your personal views, however, I sense a lot of anger. You seem very sure in your position so I am sure that nothing I or anyone else has to say will change your mind. I am impressed with your ability to forecast the future "the one that will cause the great depression #2". I am not sure where or why you feel this way unless you only feel this way because that's what McCain said in last night's debate... and then compared him to Hoover as you did above. It worries me that there are citizens like you who take what someone says as face value. I disagree with some of Obama's plans but I disagree with a lot more of McCain's plans. It's funny that when talking about Health Care McCain said that you will be forced to provide Obama's health care plan if you do not offer one yourself. The terrible health care plan of Obama's is also the same Health Care plan for McCain. It seems to suit him just fine. And the company should be fined if they are able to afford it and don't. McCain just assumes the employer will get a different plan and take the $5000... but given a choice between providing a plan and providing no plan, they will choose no plan because that's what they are doing now. Think your own thoughts... that's all I ask. More education for our children will help allow our children to think their own thoughts down the road... for now, please do more research.

It's coming with Obama, it's not going to be averted, there's no way it can be. And Remember You will NOT be getting more of my money!
Alot of others will be doing the same. Not enough taxes paid to pay for the non-taxpayers. Simple Math really. Good Luck, your gonna' need it!
I will be all set up by then, but there's not much time left!-

You're a nutjob. I feel sorry for your neighbors. No doubt you're one of those crotchety old people who has a pristine lawn and screams at your neighbor's children for laughing while they're playing (then you secretly throw poop from your crappy little dog into their yard because you're too passive aggressive to actually talk to them).

Wow. The GOP *really* has you living in fear, don't they. Kudos to them for their fear-mongering plans working so well.
Reply
Doesn't it bother you to live in constant fear, a fear sold to you by those who claim they want to protect you? It's called a protection racket. Just like the Mafia.-

"Why do you think Medicare has so much fraud?"
Reply
Because it benefits the corporations and drug companies that rake in the money from Medicare and no one from the Bush-stuffed DOJ wants to take on big-Pharma? It's not the people getting treated that are making the money.

Obama's job for the next 19 days is to keep the ground effort rolling to get the vote out and not let people start taking the outcome for granted so much they don't bother to vote. That, and they've got to stop the Republican effort to massively disenfranchise legitimate voters in battleground. That fight is already on its way to the Supreme Court, where the Republican appointees that elected George Bush in 2000 still sit.

Why in the Sam Hill would I be living in Fear? I will be living in a mountainous region, remote, and completely self-sustaining, and eco-friendly-clean, on my own land, so why would I be feared?
Reply
Oh, You mean the Fear of the Taxes to pay BLOATED Entitlements, right? YES, those Taxes that Obama will try and take from me, and the other's I know that will Massive Early Out, Retire, or just leave the regular work force, are doing so to Expidite what Obama is doing. Causing an Entitlement EMPLOSION. There's not going to be enough money to keep Bloating Entitlements, These people pay ZERO taxes, if they do it's not much compared to what they take, so it matters NOT what Obama does now, it's going to FAIL..Ending in a huge massive Great Depression by Entitlement Emplosion #2! -

I have learned much from them, and many others they know.
I am taking my skills, my earned money, my savings that I denied myself amenities and luxuries, to save, save, save, pulled my money out when Obama started talking about 'Spreading the Wealth', just in time, and now have a nice bundle to begin on, self sustaining.
My own lan, timber, fish in my stream, grownds to grow, solar powered, self-defending, clean, water-filtration system ready!

And while you are talking on how socialism is dying, it seems Russia is expanding
Militarily as in Georgia and sending warships to Venezuela
Lending $500 bill to Iceland as they are having economic woes; but what a nice possible base for Russian bombers or subs in the future.
And don't forget China
Man is the world ever shrinking.
Reminds me of a "Risk" game , and you pile all your men on a country and hope your opponent doesn't roll 6's

McCain's campaign is losing.
Reply
They're looking for gimmicks. The "cute" games they played at the debate last night were comical. McCain gets all feisty and says "I'm not Bush." It may have worked, only if it had been the truth.
Catch phrases or one liners only work if they have an element of truth. McCain voted with that turd Bush 90% of the time.
Also, they were looking for a Reagan "one liner," but the problem is he's not Reagan.
Did anyone hear the comment about Nancy Reagan during the debate? Do you think that was a "Rove" tactic to put the "Reagan" name out, then follow it up with a bunch of "cute one-liners?" The Republicans have come up with all sorts of gimmicks- McCain running back to DC, Palin not answering media questions, brining up Reagan on the day of the debate.
These Republicans are filthy. -

We will need a blessing no matter who wins. It's hard to imagine the angry and erratic man McCain and the outclassed Governor in a meeting with other world leaders. Obama clearly won all the debates. He looked and acted cool and Presidential, while McCain looked like the angry old man who lives in every neighborhood in America, but is outnumbered by compassionate, real Americans. The GOP is pulling out all their negative shenanigans in an effort to derail the inevitable. Even Joe the plumber is a hypocritical sham. I'm concerned that the Limbaughesque hatred of Democrats will continue long after the election. At least Rush may finally get off the Clintons and vent his thinly-veiled racism against the Obamas. Yes, you are right. We need divine guidance for wisdom, compassion, and moral leadership.

I personally don't understand democrats anymore. They are not what they used to stand for. JFK's famous quote of "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" doesn't resound anymore. When did it become the governments responsibility to control certain aspects of our lives such as healthcare, wealth, and education??

Your elected officials get a health care package paid for by tax payers; but it is socialism if it is extended to the tax payers
I am a Canadian who has 3 children, oldest is 20
As a Canadian with Gov health care, my premiums for health care for my kids just went up 2-3 years ago to $264 every 3 months and in the last 20 years it has covered 3 pregnancies, ultra sounds, all dental for my kids till they are 18 (longer in in university)whooping cough, measles, broken arms, stitches and any and every kind of calamity a family can have.
Many Americans lament that to get specialized treatment we have to go to USA for treatment, while this is true in some cases it is because we do not have the large centers like you do, I bet the people of Alaska suffer the same thing.
It is run by the Gov, which everyone knows is an inefficient way of doing anything, but it sure beats paying $5800/year as McC says you do, or $12,000/year as Obama says, plus you have stipulations on these plans, we don't.
As for wealth, what was it, the CEO of Merrill lynch took home $310 mill in the last 5 years (his account, your gov. say$500 mill)and he gets tax breaks that middle class doesn't?
And education, saw in a report not to long ago that 50% of graduating high schoolers in Detroit will fail and minorities were even higher, so iif this is true; YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING.

I think that the media is all Democratic parties . I think McCain did a great job Obama never explains how or what he is going to do it is like and dog and pony show. When you say your not going to raise taxes we all know that is a lie how will he do any thing he has set out to do if he dont increase taxes? Maybe with all the money he has spent on TV Adds he should have use that to help America . I just dont feel safe with him leading our country. So go McCain I am behind you all the way . I want no more years of a taller version Bill Clinton

Ha, in a period of grave economic crisis, it is disheartening that so much trivia is still being flung all over the place. McCain has agreed with George Bush 90 percent of the time. An old dog can't learn new tricks. America deserves to keep its number one position. But it won't be by doing the same things that got us into trouble. We need a breath of fresh air, fresh ideas, fresh worldview. Obama is the right man for the job. Long live America!

obama was the clear winner in every respect in all three debates. and that's not just me talking. i was mesmerized by the independent focus group ribbon on cnn and their responses and according to them, obama nailed it over and over and his positive responses were more sustained.

he was cool and collected under fire, while mccain visibly became angrier and more agitated.
i thought mccain's lamest comment was about obama's "attack" ads..."he attacked my health plan. He attacked my economic plan." right, obama attacked mccain's policies while mccain has been attacking obama personally, not his policies. why? because mccain knows he doesn't have a leg to stand on. he looked very unstable overall...an unstable, angry old man. -

Obama to me is nothing more than a good speaker, I personally think he is legally and underhandingly buying votes, I think his contacts and friends is all been thru the years for, moving his self ahead I think he will go to scum to get his way,He's promising people things that are other peoples dreams, I don't have much, but I have morals, and I don't want other peoples money It's not mine to take! Mccain speaks from the heart, I'm scared of going toward a global economy, I truly beleive obama is worse than any can IMAGINE.

McCain did better this debate, but he's such a jerk, his antics took from it. He's such a liar, and number of times Obama had to correct him distracted from his offering. And what was with the raising of the eyebrow thing, he looked so stupid doing that repeatedly. He still came across as a cynical, grumpy old man who has a difficult personality. Obama was cool, calm and collected..and just looked and sounded and behaved more presidential. Vote the intelligent choice, vote OBAMA!

It must have took the "whole team" on the McCain campaign to think up this "slip."
It was no slip- a planned gimmick. It was just like Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction."
I'd rather have seen Jackson's boob then this boob McCain. -
