Actually the Ayers smear also shows the degeneration of the GOP since they were taken over by the Zioncons around McCain and the "christian" zionists around Palin. Imagine having to smear a foundation run by a conservative republican to try to find smears of Obama!

Fact-Checking the Ayers Allegations: So Wrong, It’s “Pants on Fire” Wrong
For most of the election, Sen. John McCain ’s campaign has been somewhat subtle about trying to tie Sen. Barack Obama to the former ‘60s radical William Ayers. No longer. A 90-second Web ad released Oct. 8, 2008, features sinister music, side-by-side photographs of Obama and Ayers, and a series of dubious allegations about their past connections, including this one: “Ayers and Obama ran a radical education foundation together.”
... We’ll look at whether the foundation was radical. But first we have to grapple with whether Obama and Ayers ran it. Ayers “was never on the board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge,” and he “never made a decision programmatically or had a vote,” Rolling said.
“He (Ayers) was at board meetings — which, by the way, were open — as a guest,” Rolling said. “That is not anything near Bill Ayers and Barack Obama running the Chicago Annenberg Challenge.”.....
Now, was the foundation radical?
Annenberg was a lifelong Republican and former ambassador to the United Kingdom under President Richard Nixon. His widow, Leonore, has endorsed McCain. Kurtz might just as plausibly have accused Obama and the foundation of “translating Annenberg’s conservatism into practice.”
Among the other board members who served with Obama were: Stanley Ikenberry, former president of the University of Illinois; Arnold Weber, former president of Northwestern University and assistant secretary of labor in the Nixon administration; Scott Smith, then publisher of the Chicago Tribune; venture capitalist Edward Bottum; John McCarter, president of the Field Museum; Patricia Albjerg Graham, former dean of the Harvard University Graduate School of Journalism, and a host of other mainstream folks.-

The End Of Israel?
By Hannah Mermelstein
I am feeling optimistic about Palestine.
I know it sounds crazy. How can I use "optimistic" and "Palestine" in the same sentence when conditions on the ground only seem to get worse? ...
....We can never forget these things and the daily suffering of the people, and yet I dare to say that I am optimistic. Why? Ehud Olmert. Let me clarify. Better yet, let's let him clarify:
"The day will come when the two-state solution collapses, and we face a South African-style struggle for equal voting rights. As soon as that happens, the state of Israel is finished."
That's right, the Prime Minister of Israel is currently trying to negotiate a "two-state solution" specifically because he realizes that if he doesn't, Palestinians might begin to demand, en masse, equal rights to Israelis. Furthermore, he worries, the world might begin to see Israel as an apartheid state. In actuality, most of the world already sees Israel this way, but Olmert is worried that even Israel's most ardent supporters will begin to catch up with the rest of the world.
...Perhaps Olmert is giving American Jews too much credit here, but he does expose a basic contradiction in the minds of most American people, Jewish and not: most of us -- at least in theory -- support equal rights for all residents of a country. Most of us do not support rights given on the basis of ethnicity and religion, especially when the ethnicity/religion being prioritized is one that excludes the vast majority of the country's indigenous population. We cannot, of course, forget the history of ethnic cleansing of indigenous people on the American continent. But we must not use the existence of past atrocities to justify present ones.
I am optimistic not because I think the process of ethnic cleansing and apartheid in Israel/Palestine is going to end tomorrow, but because I can feel the ideology behind these policies beginning to collapse. For years the true meaning of political Zionism has been as ignored as its effects on Palestinian daily life. And suddenly it is beginning to break open. Olmert's comments last week are reminiscent of those of early Zionist leaders who talked openly of transfer and ethnic cleansing in order to create an artificial Jewish majority in historic Palestine.-

hyperbola1 year, 1 month ago
This comment is below the standard viewing threshold View It »
....So this idea of a "two-state solution" a la Olmert -- which I would argue provides neither a "state" nor a "solution" for the Palestinian people -- is the new transfer. It is no longer popular in the world to openly discuss expulsion (though there are political parties in Israel that advocate this), but Olmert hopes that by creating a Palestinian "state" on a tiny portion of historic Palestine, he can accomplish the same goal: maintaining an ethno-religious state exclusively for the Jewish people in most of historic Palestine. His plan, as all other plans Israeli leaders have tried to "negotiate," ignores the basic rights of the two-thirds of the Palestinian population who are refugees. They, like all other refugees in the world, have the internationally recognized right to return to their lands and receive compensation for loss and damages. This should not be up for negotiation.
Reply
So why am I optimistic? Why do I think Olmert will fail, if not in the short term, at least in the long term? There are many signs.....
... So when Olmert warns that we will "face a South African-style struggle for equal voting rights" and that "the state of Israel [will be] finished," I get a little flutter of excitement. I think of the 171 Palestinian organizations who have called on the international community to begin campaigns of boycott, divestment, and sanctions against Israel until Israel complies with international law. This is already a South African-style struggle, and we outside of Palestine need to do our part. Especially those of us who live in the US, the country that gives Israel more than $10 million every single day, must take responsibility for the atrocities committed in our name and with our money.
Ultimately, this is our role as Americans. It is to begin campaigns in our churches, synagogues, mosques, universities, cities, unions, etc. It is not to broker false negotiations between occupier and occupied, and it is not to muse over solutions the way I have above. But one can dream. And as a Jewish-American, I know that while it might be scary to some, while it will require a lot of imagination, the end of Israel as a Jewish state could mean the beginning of democracy, human rights, and some semblance of justice in a land that has almost forgotten what that means.
(Hannah Mermelstein is co-founder and co-director of Birthright Unplugged, which takes mostly Jewish North American people into the West Bank to meet with Palestinian people and to equip them to return to their own communities and work for justice; and takes Palestinian children from refugee camps to Jerusalem, the sea, and the villages their grandparents fled in 1948, and supports them to document their experiences and create photography exhibits to share with their communities and with the world.)

I think Obama realizes that most voters have no idea who or what ACORN is and that he could afford to wait (and spend quality time instead preparing to answer voters' questions about things that are actually important to them. Cons, meanwhile, have continued to look like desperate rabid weasels frothing at the mouth and digging in place like panic stricken gohpers on crack. Like rats, scampering to find the nearest hole in the ground, basically, cons are in a holding pattern of fear and smear. As cons continue to roll around in their own excrement, looking like lethargic farm animals in heat, McCain's campaign continues to wither and die on the vine. It's really a sad, ugly, and shameful picture. ;-(

Follow the money. 800k is more than the "bailout bill" so many are all upset about, and that's the amount of Obama's monetary connection to A.C.O.R.N. Innocent (or, even, not guilty), he is not. Regardless of who you're voting for or which party you lean toward, not looking at all sides of an issue helps nothing.
Reply
A.C.O.R.N. should be disbanded. Obviously, they cannot control their associates, and elections are too important to have unreliable groups involved with their voter recruitment. If they're that unreliable there, why would they be reliable elsewhere? Why would an attorney not say and do something about that - and why would a speaker necessarily know anything about it?
Especially as this fraud happened in swing states, this should be investigated carefully. It should be investigated, in any case.-

GOP's ACORN 'Voter Fraud' Lie Ramped Up
I had been intending to post an answer to the ongoing -- and quickly escalating -- ACORN smears being issued of late by the GOP enemies of democracy out there, who have decided to intensify their unsubstantiated assaults on the community organization, given its effectiveness at registering millions of low-income voters across the country....
... Doubtless you've heard the smears by now: that ACORN is committing "voter fraud", on behalf of Obama, in hotly contested swing states. The media has been all too happy to pass that garbage on, without bothering to note that, in fact, the organization attempts to authenticate every registration form their workers submit and by law they must turn in every form to election officials -- even if they find a registration to be fraudulent when they call the phone number submitted on the form, or if the forms are otherwise suspect or incomplete.
They do so, and they flag all questionable registration forms as being suspect before turning them in to officials.
The thanks they receive for registering millions of new voters that nobody else has bothered with, and for notifying officials about questionable registration forms when they turn them in, is that the GOP's democracy-hating propagandists and election officials run to the media shouting, "ACORN is committing voter fraud! They've turned in hundreds and thousands of fraudulent registration forms!"
Of course they have. They have to by law. But what those GOP despots of democracy always forget to mention is that it was ACORN themselves who notified officials about the potentially fraudulent and/or incomplete forms in the first place!
For the quickest idea of how the GOP ACORN scam has run amok, dutifully forwarded by the often clueless corporate media, and then the rightwing wankers in the blogosphere who are only to happy to help enable those who are lying to them -- by putting truth, democracy and country second -- take a look at the following game of rightwing "blogosphere telephone" concerning a recent news conference called by a Lake County, Indiana GOP chair in order to sound the phony alarm about "fraud" committed by ACORN....

Republican leaders break ranks with McCain
Senior members of the Republican party are in open mutiny against John McCain's presidential campaign, after a disastrous period which has seen Barack Obama solidify his lead in the opinion polls.
...From inside and outside his inner circle, Mr McCain is being told to settle on a coherent economic message and to tone down attacks on his rival which have sometimes whipped up a mob-like atmosphere at Republican rallies.
Two former rivals for the party nomination, Mitt Romney and Tommy Thompson, went on the record over the weekend about the disarray in the Republican camp. And a string of other senior party figures said Mr McCain's erratic performance risks taking the party down to heavy losses not just in the presidential race but also in contests for Congressional seats....
Some Republicans seeking election to Congress have begun distancing themselves from Mr McCain. In Nebraska, a Republican representative, Lee Terry, ran a newspaper ad featuring support from a woman who called herself an "Obama-Terry voter". ....

ACORN spends million validating registrations. When they find irregularities, those forms are bundled together and marked as 'suspicious' when submitted to the state election board. ACORN then has its own internal processes for identifying and dealing with whichever worker submitted those forms.
By law ALL forms must be returned to the election board, even if it is a registration for Mickey Mouse.-

Americas Political Cannibalism
It is no longer our economy but our democracy that is in peril. It was the economic meltdown of Yugoslavia that gave us Slobodan Milosevic. It was the collapse of the Weimar Republic that vomited up Adolf Hitler. And it was the breakdown in czarist Russia that opened the door for Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks. Financial collapses lead to political extremism. The rage bubbling up from our impoverished and disenfranchised working class, glimpsed at John McCain rallies, presages a looming and dangerous right-wing backlash.
As the public begins to grasp the depth of the betrayal and abuse by our ruling class, as the Democratic and Republican parties are exposed as craven tools of our corporate state, as savings accounts, college funds and retirement plans become worthless, as unemployment skyrockets and as home values go up in smoke, we must prepare for the political resurgence of a reinvigorated radical Christian right. The engine of this mass movement—as is true for all radical movements—is personal and economic despair. And despair, in an age of increasing shortages, poverty and hopelessness, will be one of our few surplus commodities.
Karl Polanyi in his book “The Great Transformation,” written in 1944, laid out the devastating consequences—the depressions, wars and totalitarianism—that grow out of a so-called self-regulated free market. He grasped that “fascism, like socialism, was rooted in a market society that refused to function.” He warned that a financial system always devolved, without heavy government control, into a Mafia capitalism—and a Mafia political system—which is a good description of the American government under George W. Bush. Polanyi wrote that a self-regulating market, the kind bequeathed to us since Ronald Reagan, turned human beings and the natural environment into commodities, a situation that ensures the destruction of both society and the natural environment. He decried the free market’s belief that nature and human beings are objects whose worth is determined by the market. He reminded us that a society that no longer recognizes that nature and human life have a sacred dimension, an intrinsic worth beyond monetary value, ultimately commits collective suicide. Such societies cannibalize themselves until they die. Speculative excesses and growing inequality, he wrote, always destroy the foundation for a continued prosperity. ....-

The Patriot Act, the FISA Reform Act, the suspension of habeas corpus, the open use of torture in our offshore penal colonies, the stationing of a combat brigade on American soil, the seas of surveillance cameras, the brutal assaults against activists in Denver and St. Paul are converging to determine our future. Those dark forces arrayed against American democracy are waiting for a moment to strike, a national crisis that will allow them in the name of national security and moral renewal to shred the Constitution. They have the tools. They will use fear, chaos, the hatred for the ruling elites and the specter of left-wing dissent and terrorism to impose draconian controls to extinguish our democracy. And while they do it they will be waving the American flag, singing patriotic slogans and clutching the Christian cross....

Hahaha, it is hilarious! Barry says he first represented ACORN 13 years ago and the story is over! He really squashed that one! I guess he hasn't been associated with them since then, no $800k, and he really didn't recently threaten banks with lawsuits from ACORN if they didn't give out sub prime loans! Whew! Good thing he squashed that one. M.O. saved, close one!

Isn't SOMEONE going to suggest that ACORN is Muslim-funded, and that its director is Rev. Wright?
Reply
That Bill Ayers was in charge of the bomb squad division? That there WAS a bomb squad division, in the ranks of which Obama started his political career?
Of course, the main question is, who IS Barrack Obama?
REALLY.
I mean, he doesn't look like me....
PS, you can (try to) register a zillion times, but you can vote only once, assuming you aren't an advanced identity misrepresentor. (And those who are will scarcely require ACORN's "help," right?)-

I think cons realize they have pretty much milked this ACORN "scandal." It's about time for someone on the right to accuse Michelle Obama of calling someone "whitey" again. ;-0 The question is, will Ann Coulter call Sarah Palin a "witch" and accuse her of "enjoying" the publicity she gets wh*ring baby Taz or Trick or whoever out to the media. ;-P

Obama may say he doesn't need ACORN to win. Lets see if he will give the votes back in his margin is small and he gets the majority of fake vots. Election stealing has been the norm for decades. ACORN and Obama have been doing this since he got

elected to State Senator. How do you think he was able to get
his oponents to drop out if not with ACORN's help. ACORN knew
exactly where to look and did his dirty work. They still are.
That is not squashing. It is lying with the help of the media.-

ACORN is voters. There are groups of citizens across this country trying to bring the disenfranchised (poor) into our process of government so they will have a voice. Some of the people they've hired to get registrations faked the names to get more in their paychecks. They're paid by the number of registrations they turn in. ACORN has turned in many fraudulent registrations, & named the people who committed voter registration fraud. NOTHING can be done about the few who cheat their bosses. And you don't stop registering people because some won't be honest! There has been no proof, no evidence, that those fake registrations resulted in anyone trying to vote with those names in the past. This whole fiasco is ridiculous. Do you really think if the 13 year old showed up to vote they'd let him? Don't be daft. THINK!

WOW, I feel so much better now. I thought for sure Obama was behind this voter fraud. I thought sooner or later Obama would come out and just ADMIT he was behind it. Now that he says he isn't behind it, then I feel so much better...NOT! Like Obama isn't a BIG FAT LIAR!

THERE IS NO VOTER FRAUD! NO BALLOTS WERE CAST! There have been a FEW instances of REGISTRATION fraud; few in comparison to those who were registered legally. It's just dumb registration takers who padded the numbers of people they registered to get more pay! So knock off the nonsense about 'voter fraud.' It is NOT true!

Obama says that he wants to clean up Washington - that means its time to clean up his act also - him and his party have been in control of the senate since 2006 running our economy in the ground - Obama stole my vote in Missouri - he wasn't even on my ballot, only Hillary, who I voted for (and I live in a predominately black district) and he still supposedly won - now how did that happen legally??? I'm tired of cheaters, so this time I will vote Republican, since I don't have to worry about voting against Bush any more. I can't stand lying parties - and this time it's the democrats!!

Repug obstructionist senators have backed Dumya's vetos on stem cell research and 10 millon poor kids geting some health coverage... are just examples of the problem for the last 2 years!
Reply
Pelosi has over 70 bills her house has passed (go to her website) just sitting awaiting Senate consideration that won't come because of the senate repugs ( 49 of 51 votes) and the threat of a Bush veto. For example, one of her first is to revoke the Medicare Drug Prescription bill mandate that senior drugs con't be negotiated. But the VA negotiates and pays 58% less (per Wikipedia).
Then if a bill gets through , Dumya puts a signing statement on it for the government agencies to ignore! Dumya has said Business works best when left alone!
Forget that it was the repug Homeland security bill that also dropped sanctions against overseas bank accounts? It wans't called the "Do Nothing" Congress for no reason besides Hastert going to a 4 day work week!
Only a pure idiot could blame the dems for this!
The repugs gave us the Great Depression too, and Dumya has only given us continuous failure! Look at the debt only added to by repugs from reagan to Bush one to Bush two! Torture and Preemptive war for which we hanged people for after WW2. Eavesdropping on Americans! Gitmo and Abu Graib! Katrina debacle! 2 unending wars, one based on lies! 14 of 20 most corupt congressmen are repugs! Only repugs have tried to impeach (johnson and Bill)! Only repug administrations have convictions at the cabinet level - 3 times for repugs (watergate, Iran Contra & plamegate). There is a terrrorist party in Americas - the repugs who should be declared so and banned!
Both barak and McBush agree! How can McBush's claims of greed not be viable without the derugulation that Barak and Bush both claim?
Only an idiot could blame the dems, I say again!

In fact, I say it's time for a civil war. Both parties truly despise one another. It's time for one party to rule over the other. That's why I'm voting for Obama. I think it's time America has a ruler, much like Cuba has/had Fidel Castro. Obama is all set to be the ruler for the next 40 or so years....A one party government is what Obama has in mind. Vote Obama 2008-2048!!!! -

Amazing how many Americans put corporate interests ahead of their own - a simple definition of a Repuke. Let's give billionaires tax breaks and they will share with the downtrodden. Bill Gates and Warren Buffett do this voluntarily but they are the rarest of examples. And they support Obama. As Gates said, he has no problem paying more in taxes. He realizes that this country provided him the opportunity to obtain such wealth. He has no problem paying America back for that priviledge.

Are you simply too vapid to understand that trickle down will never work? Seriously, are you people really that dumb?
And I suppose you were one of the outraged when Bush was compared to Hitler by a few wackos on the far Left. Yet you have the temerity to link Obama to Castro? You should be so proud. Sicko! -

4th, on second thought where do you get the Obama one party thought process from? It would seem that we are one supreme court judge away from certifying the UNITARY EXECUTIVE which would make Repugs supreme and throw out the Constitutional checks and balances. The repug judges have already given more rights to corporations than individual Americans, contrary to the Constitution!
Reply
Also, all the political strategy of the right is to destroy dems always! Even the unity instilled by 911 had the repugs planning how to blame it all on Clinton right from the start!

Republican operatives, under subliminal auspices of the authors of Operation Chaos, posed as ACORN workers and turned in registrations that have been found to be questionabe. Their good work will now mean that Mickey Mouse can probably vote, and, that guy that registered 78 times can now sway the whole election with his block of votes...NOT.
Reply
Are some of you stupid? What group of election judges will let that guy vote that many times. -

My daughter registered to vote today (she just recently turned 18). She went to the city hall with her passport as proof of citizenship -- after all, these are all hateful lies about ACORN. No one is trying to get unqualified people registered -- why would they? And besides, it would be caught when she went to vote.
Reply
Do you know what she actually had to show in order to register to vote? Her driver's license. That's it. No birth certificate, no passport, no proof of citizenship whatever. She did have to swear (but not on a bible) that she was eligible to vote.
Now, I'm told, that when we go to vote, we will no longer have to show ID?
So, exactly WHEN would they catch up with these people who registered that weren't really eligible to if there are any (of course there's none -- wink, wink) -

Obama didn't squash nothing. He did what he always does, what he has always done. Deny. He is in it up to 800,000 dollars worth. And he is still losing. These ppl that believe him is the same type that believe their cheating spouse when they walk in with lipstick on their collar and the spouse says it has been there before we got married. It don't matter how many times it has been to the cleaners. The man is such a liar. The writing is on the wall ppl and nobody has that much shaddy dealing linked to their name and still stay innocent.

Obama smirkish facial contortions made him appear elitist. The sincereity of John McCain was moving, while the naivete of Obama was exposed as he stammered searching for a rehearsed line whenever McCain addressed his flawed policy proposals. I felt a little sad for the country as I viewed the inexperienced pup attempt to challenge the best of show.

What Obama says doesn't change what I know to be true, obviously he will say whatever it takes to get elected, so in effect he is lying. Also about friends and associates, like Khalidi,Rezko,Auchi,Rev Wright,Ali Abunimah, Aiham Alsammarae,Rev Dr Louis Farrakhan,Miriam and Edward Said, Bill Ayers & Bernadette Dohrn,Samantha Powers,Raila Odinga ...Some are money people, some are muslim, most are all Israel haters...and most are RADICAL ACTIVISTS.............Obama may be able to explain away Bill Ayers, but why would Bill Ayers be supporting Obama, what does a terrorist with a radical agenda want with Obama , what does he expect..to gain from his presidency.....the same for the other Israel haters that are pictured on the internet with Obama at dinner parties- Think about it

The longer the GOP sycophants try to make an issue of these tangential non-issues, the farther they marginalize themselves with thinking Americans. People hate this stuff. Just watch the polls and instant responses from independents. Palin and McCain have alienated the media, middle Americans, and the rest of the world. They are digging their own graves. This out of control campaign is like an impending train wreck. One wonders how goofy they will be tomorrow and what their next identity will be. Their advisors will be retired to the scrap heap of history. Sad and yet somehow electrifying to watch this meltdown.
