It's not a good sign when the developer of a format doesn't support it, yet with the announcement of its new MacBooks last Tuesday, Apple omitted FireWire ports from the new models. This stirred up a lot of criticism among Apple users, who expressed it on forums.

    I use firewire a lot in making digital movies and recording albums to digital files on my MacBook Pro, but I could easily use USB as well. It's slower, but I can work with it.

    Too bad those who want to do the same thing have to buy the Pro now...

      This is sad because I really like firewire.

        For audio recording Firewire is simply much more reliable than USB. This is a disappointing move for Apple, which has always been the preferred platform for pro audio work.

        Also, Firewire backup drives are more useful in OS X than USB.
