"John McCain chose Sarah Palin, so he has no-one to blame but himself, but as I have said before, why didn't they vet her thoroughly? Why didn't they find out that she knew absolutely nothing about foreign policy and economics? Why didn't they probe her and find out that she was intellectually inferior for the job of Vice-President?"
Reply
Now why would they do that, after getting such an intellect in GWB they thought they had another winner in his clone, the comedian Palin.-

The problem for the post Reagan Republican party is this. Their real agenda is to constantly tweak the tax code so more and more money flows from the bottom 95% of Americans to the top 5%, and almost all of it goes to the top 1%.
Reply
Now it is difficult to win elections with no more than 5% of the vote, And you even have morally concerned billionaires like Warren Buffet who want no part of this push for turning America into a banana republic.
So the New Republicans have to build a base by appealing to every emotional issue out there. There's been hate of abortion, gays, Willy Horton style racism, Jesus votes Republican, if you're not with us you're a socialist or terrorist or anti-American. Vote for us or die. Bin Laden's planning his next attack and only we can stop him (even though we failed last time -- but that was Bill Clinton's fault).
Sarah Palin appealed to the Republican base. These are almost exclusively people who are not part of the wealthy elite who need their votes to keep raking in the cash of the middle class. And Charlie Crist couldn't have moved these geniuses to vote against their own interests one more time. Maybe if his name has been Charlie Christ, it would have worked.
But the simple fact is that the "Borrow and Spend" Republicans have run up 11 trillion dollars of taxes for us and our kids to pay while pushing economic disparity to the same level of unfairness it reached at the start of the great depression. The top 1% now earn 20% of all income and own 50% of all the wealth in America. Real income for the middle class has dropped 8% over the last 30 years of Republican rule, driven mostly by the tax code adjustments and the wild increase in cost of health care. And McSame wants to not only extend George Bush's policies that got us to the brink of economic disaster -- he wants to double down on Bush's bad decisions.
I don't think anyone short of the Messiah could help him as a running mate. And only then if he could force an epiphany in McCain's beliefs. -

What the right don't get is their time is up, the American people are not falling for all of their old tricks. The nation is not as conservative as they think, what happen here is Bush promised compassionate conservative, and we all fell for it even i did, however after 9/11 people were less apt to change government that coupled with the fear mongering help them regain the Presidency. Halfway through the second term the country settled back into it's usual position and in 2006 we saw the end result of that settlement in the nation...this time around the republican cant win no matter who was running for President...people realize the war was in Iraq was a terrible undertaking, and with the economy tanking like it has there is no way the republican could have won this presidency McCain or no.
Reply
That and Obama running one of the best presidential campaign most of us have seen in our life time this is all but over. The GOP is a little over 35% of the voters in this country and that's all McCain will get!

If he really wanted to attract the Hillary voters he should have picked Hillary to be his VP..lol . In all semi-seriousness a good pick..for a female VP..would have been Olympia Snowe of Maine. She has a track record of getting bi-partisan compromise deals to fly (a uniter-not a divider) and would appeal to moderates and those independant "swing" voters .
Reply
The core repubs would have issues with her being a "RINO" and she is not appealing to the evangelical loonies--sorry folks.. but you should be "marginalized" as old Rummy would say. -

david_nwpa8 months, 3 weeks ago
If the GOP had insisted on a female for VP, he could have played it safe and reached out to Elizabeth Dole. She has name recognition, and despite Bob Dole losing to Bill Clinton in 1996, Elizabeth Dole has been in the Senate, and at one time served as President of the American Red Cross. John McCain would have been better positioned, and she might not be slumping in her race in North Carolina. Fortunately for the Democrats, and me, he went with Palin.

Its obvious McCain didn't pick Palin. But McCain had to pick someone who could represent what he meant by the "change" mantra stolen from Obama. How could he pick a white male? He had to move away from the good ole boy image. He is trying to appeal to Clinton females, evangelicals and the working middle class. Unfortunately his people didn't believe the American people were smart enough to see through the manipulation. Palin isn't the best the republican party has to offer.

Really a sick comment by Tomato (or is it AG). Referring to Obama as a "pimp". But what else should we expect! This is just another shill, simply someone else who has bought this false bill of goods we call modern Republicanism. Although of course this silliness is destroying the middle and lower classes of America. But's that's not really important when the Party is on the line. Blame it all on the Democrats who for 8 years now have had no ability to pass any legislation, none. Not one piece. This is the same old trick. Confuse the masses. Slander the opposition. How anyone who makes an average income could believe in trickle down economics is beyond my reason? It has done nothing for the average wage earner.
Reply
Yet the polls are still close. We could see 4 more years of essentially the same policies. How is that even possible? Only through the slander and smears that continue to trick many Americans to vote once again against their very interests. That's why Palin was recruited. To arouse the foolish angry masses.
We now live in a completely global economy. If you didn't believe that before this latest crisis the evidence is now crystal clear. We watched our woes move like a power outage throughout the world. Yet Sarah Palin appears to have little knowledge of the world outside of Alaska. The ability to kill a moose does not translate well into international experience. Into determining policies that will affect every citizen of this planet. Alaska has a smaller population than 19 American cities. And very different issues from much of America.
But they do no such critical thinking. Just keep chanting the party mantra, slinging the feces. Never truly thinking what is best for America. Have they ever watched Obama speak off the stump? The man is worldly beyond his years. Can talk about any area of international concern with great lucidity. Can discuss economic concerns that truly make a difference to the average American. I suggest he is a good man and am sickened by the slander of this man.
Have I left out John McCain? He has become almost irrelevant to the discussion. You know he has no new ideas. But most of you count on the fact that he will not finish out his term and that Sarah will assume the throne. I don't sleep well at night and won't until Nov. 5th (hopefully not beyond) imagining the potential of this woman controlling the worlds largest military and the potential for doomsday that comes along with that. It is horrifying. By her faith and against all known evidence she believes that this life is of but temporary importance. Bush claimed the same belief but clearly his was not such a deep belief. He used religion for political purposes. Yet Palin might someday call up her God and get an answer that wont just go against the interest of the average American but every citizen of the world.
I feel no such concern about Obama. -

Good for Obama. Colin Powell isn't known for being a maverick like McCain. This kind of flip is unusual for him, although its not hard to understand why he might want some payback for the way he was set up going into Iraq. Powell is the embodiment of honor, in my opinion, and his desire to slow things down in terms of our rush into Iraq didn't go unnoticed. He was not as quick to throw our European allies under the bus as Rumsfeld was. Will he be Obama's secretary of defense?

I saw a bus go by the house this morning, and thought for sure I saw Sarah hanging on the underside. She was saying something about a pig in lipstick? Or maybe it was they're pigs and I lost my lipstick a block back? Not sure, the bus went by too fast..

Being from Florida I would have to say McCain is wrong on this. Crist is just another Liberal Republican that is disappointing to most Floridians I know. His move to embrace the Global Warming hoax is one of the main issues that have p1$$ed people off. Many other "spending" programs are also disappointing. In a time when government spending needs to be reeled in Crist is proposing expanded social spending. He ran as a conservative but once in office his mask came off and true colors as a Liberal spender are now in full view.
Reply
Crist is similar to the Democrat(ic)s and Republicans who ran on a Conservative platform in 2006 to get the votes and turned out to be nothing more than liberals.-

Where is this bus you keep talking about. The only bus I have seen is the one BO has been throwing his friends and pastors under.
Reply
I am sick of both of these guys. BO is using the same tactics that BC used. Just keep telling us how much he is going to give us, when we all know it isn't going to happen. Trust me under BO taxes are going to go up on everyone.
JM seem to think that we so stupid that we believe what BO is saying, that he has changed his tune to tell how much he is going to give us.
I don't expect anything from either of these guys, but at the end of the day I have to trust the guy who has spent his entire life in service of this country, both militarily and politically.

Bob and liz Dole were so disgraceful the two best immoral, Deceptive liars BJ bill and Hillary clinton were allowed to Disgrace Our White House for four more Years...
If BJ bill paid attention to getting rid of Bib Laudin when he was advised, instead of chashing the Dirty Green Dress of Monica lewinski, maybe just maybe 911 would not have happened and the loss of 3,000 plus 4,000 lives would have been avoided?
Really, what did BJ bill's sandy berger hide in the confidential documents he destroyed?
David, in all due respect, it is always wise to be informed on the issues before making foolish, Misguided, and illrelavent statements.

And maybe, just maybe if the Bush Administration had payed attention to the intel they had at the time the WTC attacks could have been stopped. And maybe, just maybe if Bush hadn't invaded Iraq on more poor intel we would not have an additional 4000 + Americans dead now.

The only way Mr. Clinton could have removed Bin Laden at the time was to have him killed. As we did not know for sure if he had commited crimes against our nation Clinton was limited in his actions.. There were suspicions but not any real proof. I believe this came under the executive order that disallows political assassination.
My opinion on the comment you made is formed because you keep pulling the BJ thing out. It's old and worn. Try and find another stupid excuse to blame Bill Clinton. I notice you don't bring up the Iran/Contra affair during the Reagan years. I think that comes under the heading of immoral deceptive lying as well. I probably shouldn't even pull this one out but I simply have to ask just how moral and trustworthy was the Nixon White House? Just how deceptive?
The actions of Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush 1 and Clinton shaped the policies of this nation. Trying to foist off the failure on one BJ is just stupid. Some of this is a culimination of years of supporting the insugents in Afghanistan against the Russians. Bin Laden was one of those very people we supported. No Bill Clinton's little sexcapade didn't bring this on. Years of paranoia did. We were paranoid about the communist threat. So we supported the Afghan insurgents against the USSR That went away some what with the collapse of the USSR. Now the former enemies of the USSR have become our enemies. Now we have paranoia about terrorists. Dealing with it on the basis of one BJ is just hiding one's head in the sand and not realizing that these policies are old and out dated as are the people who continue to cling to this non-issue.
And by the way on making foolish statements with little information, it was a BLUE dress.
Maybe just maybe you should start you brain before engaging your mouth.
Disrespect Intended. If you had any doubt.
