The Taklamakan Desert, also known as Taklimakan, is a desert in Central Asia. It is known as one of the largest sandy deserts in the world, covering an area of 337,600 sq. km., 1000 km long and 400 km wide. The wind system, human activity and the cultivation of vegetation is responsible for the development and movement of its dunes.
