FTA: "The Republican National Committee spent about $150,000 on clothing, hair styling, makeup and other "campaign accessories" in September for the McCain campaign after Palin joined the ticket as his running mate.
Reply
The expenses include $75,062 spent at Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, and $41,850 in St. Louis in early September. The committee also reported spending $4,100 for makeup and hair consulting. The expenses were first reported by Politico.com."
Hmm, wonder if they are going to give them to "Goodwill-

The answer to your last sentence is yes, Goodwill and other charities and in fact they already started doing just that.
Reply
This is a non-issue at best, the reason being is that the taxpayers are not footing the bill but rather the RNC is footing the bill taken from donations, not taxes. I made a donation and what they do or did with the money is fine by me.-

And these are the same people who use ugly sexist epithets to describe Palin rather than focusing on the issues. The same people who took up for Obama when he was a newbie who didn't sound "handled."

I disagree with Palin on issues, but I strongly oppose bringing her gender into it, and I've seen a lot of self-proclaimed progressives and liberals attack her venomously on gender. They'll be along shortly to neg me.-

This is TOTALLY an "ISSUE".
Reply
IT points to the lack of reasonable thinking skills by Republicans.
Are you kidding, they want to be the "reformers" and claim to "cut" government?
This doesn't say "responsible spending" to me at all.
I know it wasn't tax money, It would be different if it was HER money.
More evidence of the hipocritcal nature of McCain's campaign.
JUST like the baseball comments.....Sarah can do it 3 times at least that we KNOW about, but if Obama says ANYTHING similar then that is bad, he is bad....
The Country has seen through the two EMPTY SUITES on the Republican side...believe me.-

It's not an "issue" unless the RNC spent YOUR money and MY money, but they didn't. If she had appeared in bib-jeans you democraps would have been all over her trashing her looks. Get a grip. The decision, btw, to donate the wardrobe to charity was made long before the drive-by-media latched on to this story. Shame on all of youse guys.

This is no issue at all. Most clothiers gladly donate their clothes to candidates, the idea being that it will be THEIR designs on display if the candidate gets elected. Which brings up Hillary Clinton. She doesn't buy her pant suits like Palin has to; as a matter of fact, Hillary's suits are worth $6350 a piece retail! Should Hillary's suits have been an issue during the primaries? By your logic, the answer is a resounding YES!

I was preparing to give a small donation to Edwards' campaign when the story broke about his charging his campaign for his $400 haircut. Since my small donation would have covered only a fraction of a haircut, I didn't send anything. I'm not sure if the GOP even has small donors, but I would sure as heck be perturbed if I found that the few bucks I could scrape together went to buy designer dresses for the candidate.

REALITY CHECK
Reply
Obama - wealthy - has high quality cloths
Biden - wealthy - has high quality clothes
McCain - Wealthy - has high quality cloths
Palin - not wealthy - has regular cloths
What did the libs complain about as far as cloths.
Early on the libs criticized her clothing saying several put downs about what she wore.
When the new cloths were bought that stopped.
Now libs have to go ballistic because the RNC did the nice thing and bought cloths that matched the quantity and quality of the other candidates.
Such compassion.
Why do you have a problem with this. It is the Republican party giving her the ability to look as good as Obama and Biden. I guess you think she should wear the cloths you enjoyed criticizing. That is probably the problem.-

Shes in touch, or will she merely be charging incidentals to the public once again should she take office?
And THIS is your candidate who knows how to spend?

"She" didn't spend anything, didn't charge anything to the public, etc. ad nauseum. Yes, this is MY candidate that put on the best appearance than any OTHER candidate. And when she's the VP, she'll do the same for the heads of state, leaders, etc. around the planet. Much better than showing up in bib-jeans.

Nothing Palin does will change these people's views. We have the misogynists, who hate her just because she's female, we have some extreme members of the far left, who hate her because of her socially conservative and economically liberal beliefs and positions, we have the juvenile, who think she's attractive enough to Photoshop her head onto nude bodies and call her typical female derogatory terms, and we have ordinary democrats who simply disagree with her platform and won't vote for her.
Reply
The clothes are going to be sold for charity after the election. It's done all the time. But for those who already hate her, for whatever reason, it's another excuse to attack her.

From what i've heard, the GOP spent more money on Palin's families wardrobes than old Joe the Plumber makes in years! Seems that she could have afforded herself some clothes in light of the fact that she was charging the state of Alaska to stay home!

There is that Christian charity again n2n. The official residence of the governor is the building provided for her. Travel to and from that and expences when away from her residence is what EVERY governor gets. She did not charge as much as she could have charged. But you have to do the put her down don't you. Anything negative about Palin even if what she did is ethical and in keeping with what EVERY other governor does.

Why have the Liberals put her under such a magnifying glass. Why were hundreds of reporters sent to Wassilla? Why were all the lies that you gleefully posted on put on Propeller? Why has absolutely everything and anything been twisted to belittle her. And you gleefully go along with it.-

Even if the DNC was "running the least known and at this point least qualified person for president since Jimmy Carter" as you claim (which they are not),.he is still head and shoulders better than the RNC poor excuse of a presidential candidate. First, I don't understand this at all. How many of your major contributors pee money like this away daily? How much money was spent by the movie star, trial attorney, mortgage banker and insurance executives on Obama's campaign alone? While I think the costs are high, I am not offended but the investment. I am a contributor. Talking about investments, how much did the Obama camp spend on repainting the planes and buses? Especially repainting the "new" presidential seal.

If you really feel that way you probably should go out and do something enjoyable with what time you have left. I too remember the gas wars with a service station on every corner that went out of business while Nixon was president. Bank sprang up like dandelions in their place to con people to get credit for easy money that they didn't need. I'm also old enough to remember the minimum wage of $1.25 that the Republicans fought against raising that would be equal to about $12.50 in today's money compared to the minimum wage of only $6.55 today because of the Republicans. That minimum wage then would sometimes buy 5 gallon of gas. How much can you buy now with $6.55?

This would be a non issue if she stayed with in the reality of the people she is portraying, i.e. the Hockey Moms, Joe Six Pack, the Middle America. If she had gone to Sears, JC Penny, The Gap, etc. then she wouldn't of exposed herself to being nothing more than a fraud, i.e. a pig wearing NM and Saks.

But she wore a designer dress at the convention. Her 2 daughters also wore dresses by the same Chicago designer
If course the cost of the clothing was never mentioned that I could find
Now I'm absolutely certain that most middle class families buy designer dresses for the young daughters, aren't you??
I also recall the article about a "snack" Michelle ordered - lobsters and Iranian cavier. Certain to be on the menu in most middle class homes , right?-

Michelle OBama did not spend anywhere near the 300,000 dollars that Cindy McCain spent on her acceptance night outfit. There is, in fact, a video circulating of an OBama family interview where wardrobe was discussed and Michell was wearing a dress from The Gap and the one daughter said "Mom shops at The Gap a lot".-

It wasn't a designer suit but rather an Oscar de la Renta dress - $3,000. It was the 3 karat diamond earings that were $280,000. So what? It's her money, she can spend it on whatever she likes.

You don't waste your time fighting for those that already have it, you concentrate on those that don't. Obama wants to take away from those that have it and donate it to those that don't. McCain wants to let the middle-class worker keep what they have rather than spread it around.-

I sorry but you are badly misinformed. Obama has said repeatedly that his plan involves repealing the tax cut (or letting it expire would be a better way to put it) that Bush and the Repub congress gave the rich and have them pay the rate they were paying when Clinton was in office. He also has stated that he wants to give those that make under $250,000 a reduced rate of taxation. No one is getting any money from the rich as the Republicans keep saying because the middle class will still pay taxes but at a reduced rate. Isn't that what the Republicans have been screaming for people to keep more of their wages? Well, the middle class can keep more of their wages and the wealthy will revert back to the rate that existed in 2000.
***** DeauxNut . The middle class doesn't make over $250,000. Joe the plumber who claims to be middle class only makes a little over $40,000 so Obama's tax plan would help him.
