Citing “ birth control compromises faith” the pharmacies have gotten around the legalities of refusing to fill birth control prescriptions by becoming officially certified by the anti-choice group Pharmacists for Life International. The new store policy also extends to over the counter birth control of any kind such as condoms and spermicides. The most disturbing part of this trend is that several of these pharmacies are in rural and heavily religious areas, forcing those who need their prescriptions filled to drive eighty miles or more to do it. This is one trend that could have a negative effect on low-income families who cannot afford to travel so far for something they have a right to where they live.
