At one of the clinics Eric Rudolph bombed he had a second bomb set to go off after emergency crews arrived. How is that not terrorism? How was the bombing at the Olympics or the night club not terrorism?

  Anyone who bombs a Planned Parenthood facility or a clinic where abortions are performed is a terrorist.

    Well. Brittain tags the IRA as terrorists even though they were essentially trying to cast out an invading and occupying army. The US tags people fighting to get the US out of Iraq (again an invading and occupying force) as terrorists.
    
    I guess whoever's in power or whoever has the stronger influence in government gets to decide who's the terrorist and who's the freedom fighter.
    
    Seems to me if Ayers is a terrorist for using bombs never aimed at citizens to protest an illegal war and bring attention to the fact that someone who intentionally targets civilians after targeting doctors is certainly a terrorist.

    You mean intimidation, right? Terrorism is intended to put people in fear, so that they might act in ways they would normally not, in order to protect themselves. They might shut-up when normally they might be vocal, of they might avoid avowing to their faith, when normally they might be evangelical, or they might avoid going to Planned Parenthood and go somewhere less obvious. Resistance might seem similar to terrorism, but it is designed less to intimidate than to create a burden for the oppressor that the oppressor eventually does not want to bear.

    Ayers was guilty of using terrorism to protest an illegal war of occupation. The war exacted a huge human cost in terms of fatalities, including 3 to 4 million Vietnamese from both sides, 1.5 to 2 million Laotians and Cambodians, and 58,159 U.S. soldiers. Ayers and his group planned their bombings to avoid any human causalities. The only people ever harmed by Weathermen were three members of the group who had a device blow up in their hands as they were constructing it.
    
    Ayers has said he wished they had done more. By that he did NOT mean more bombings but that they could have helped end the war earlier and avoid all the needless loss of life produced by dragging it out for years after the US knew it was a lost cause.
    
    All this happened in the 1960s, when Barack Obama was a little boy. Today Ayers holds the title of Distinguished Professor of Education and Senior University Scholar at the College of Education at the University of Illinois.
    
    To say Ayers slim connections to Obama makes Obama a friend of terrorists while condoning bombings of abortion clinics that are aimed at killing people is just another in the now legendary chain of RepugniCon lies told in this campaign. The Repugs are not content to throw the kitchen sink at their opponents. They aren't satisfied till they reach down the open pipe into the sewer and sling the putrid slime they find there.

Although there are many definitions of terrorist, I find this one the clearest:

Let's see whether it fits to the people who bomb abortion clinics. They are radicals and they are trying to terrorize women seeking abortions and medical staff providing abortions. They use terror as a political weapon, the political goal being a change in the laws. They are organized, and they use religion to justify their activities aimed at terrorizing civilians.

So how are they not terrorists?

I'm sure GLee or Redtomato will chime in at some point rationalizing. They justify the bombing as a way to save innocent children by blowing up their potential parents. I don't agree with abortion but I also don't agree with murder either.

A terrorist is one who targets civilians and non-combatants in order to acheive social change.

This suggests that the most egregious terrorists are those who bomb whole cities to acheive their ends, and that the war on terror may best furthered by cleaning out the White House and the Pentagon.

    If there was ever a chance for a viable third party to emerge, it will be in 2012. Clearly the Republican party has been overrun by the neo-con agenda and has lost a great deal of viability. There is a lot to admire in paleo-conservatism, particularly around non-interventionism and fiscal responsibility. The political field has been moved so far to the right that even a centrist like Obama is deemed a 'Socialist/Marxist'.

  Ah, the ACORN bank intimidation ploy. To be clear, ACORN was calling banks on their practice of redlining (not loaning to people based on location, NOT qualification.), a practi8ce made illegal by the Community Reinvestment Act.
  
  Just so everyone understands, the vast majority of bad paper issued by banks were not under the CRA. Only 1/6 for sub-prime mortgages had anything whatsoever to do with the CRA.

Here is an example of terror wrought by the authorities:

Four Kent State students died as a result of the firing by the Guard. The closest student was Jeffrey Miller, who was shot in the mouth while standing in an access road leading into the Prentice Hall parking lot, a distance of approximately 270 feet from the Guard. Allison Krause was in the Prentice Hall parking lot; she was 330 feet from the Guardsmen and was shot in the left side of her body. William Schroeder was 390 feet from the Guard in the Prentice Hall parking lot when he was shot in the left side of his back. Sandra Scheuer was also about 390 feet from the Guard in the Prentice Hall parking lot when a bullet pierced the left front side of her neck.

Nine Kent State students were wounded in the 13 second fusillade. Most of the students were in the Prentice Hall parking lot, but a few were on the Blanket Hill area. Joseph Lewis was the student closest to the Guard at a distance of about sixty feet; he was standing still with his middle finger extended when bullets struck him in the right abdomen and left lower leg. Thomas Grace was also approximately 60 feet from the Guardsmen and was wounded in the left ankle. John Cleary was over 100 feet from the Guardsmen when he was hit in the upper left chest. Alan Canfora was 225 feet from the Guard and was struck in the right wrist. Dean Kahler was the most seriously wounded of the nine students. He was struck in the small of his back from approximately 300 feet and was permanently paralyzed from the waist down. Douglas Wrentmore was wounded in the right knee from a distance of 330 feet. James Russell was struck in the right thigh and right forehead at a distance of 375 feet. Robert Stamps was almost 500 feet from the line of fire when he was wounded in the right buttock. Donald Mackenzie was the student the farthest from the Guardsmen at a distance of almost 750 feet when he was hit in the neck.

    How long have we been 'orange' on the terrorist alert scale (I'm guessing it will be 'red' on election day)? I travel for business from time to time and the airport announcement always says, "the terror alert has been RAISED to orange". I recall an instance where we actually went to 'yellow', the announcement still said, "the terror alert has been RAISED to yellow. " How Orwellian is that?

No, Obama is against late-term abortion, but he won't sign unless the mother's health can trump the criminalization.

I disagree with him--I think that if someone chooses late-term abortion, it's not only rare, but the circumstances warrant it. I think we need to find ways to limit the number of pregnancies. Give the patch, tie tubes, or give vasectomies to people who would like them, but can't afford it, and make drugs like RU-486 and condoms more readily available. That would save the country a lot of money as well.

  What you say makes common sense 'memestryker' but it still won't fly with the anti-abortionists. The reason it won't is that they have a this blind faith belief that the microsecond fertilization takes place the result is a full blown life. The circumstances how how this came about (rape,incest etc.) means squat to them. Even if a doctor determines a full term pregnancy will put the mothers life in grave danger is of no concern to them.
