Alaska Paper Endorses Obama For President »
Posted By TimALoftis 1 year, 1 month ago in Political NewsGov. Palin's nomination clearly alters the landscape for Alaskans as we survey this race for the presidency -- but it does not overwhelm all other judgment. The election, after all is said and done, is not about Sarah Palin, and our sober view is that her running mate, Sen. John McCain, is the wrong choice for president at this critical time for our nation.
Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee, brings far more promise to the office. In a time of grave economic crisis, he displays thoughtful analysis, enlists wise counsel and operates with a cool, steady hand. The same cannot be said of Sen. McCain.

Jordan, as I read the last paragraph they are saying that she is not ready for the V-P spot and be a heartbeat away.... Also for purposes of endorsement they are looking at the top of the ticket.

And here we have another strong republican state and it's major newspaper endorsing O>Bama. Can't help but wonder why the poll spread isn't greater.

In one sense, Gov. Palin has gone a long way toward giving Alaska legitimacy on the national political stage. Granted, she has her flaws, but she has brought attention to a state that often goes unnoticed by this country's media. I view that as a positive for the state of Alaska. I'm very close to someone who is Alaskan-born, so I'm aware of at least a bit of the sentiments Alaskan folks have regarding the state's status in this country.

That said, to lose your hometown newspaper's endorsement is a big deal, even if you are only the V.P. candidate. Alaska is a conservative state. You would expect the state's main newspaper to back a conservative candidate for President. I've read some stories from the ADN that were unfavorable to Gov. Palin, but I guess I didn't expect them to jump off the bandwagon entirely. My understanding is that there are those who believe the Anchorage Daily News is a liberal-skewed paper, so that may explain the endorsement.
By the way, Senator Obama has the endorsement of both of Chicago's major newspapers (the mostly conservative Tribune, and the liberal-leaning Sun Times) as well as the one large suburban daily (the conservative-leaning Daily Herald). I guess some candidates polarize (pun intended), while others unify. -

We still have newspapers? Oh well...I guess all liberals can't find teaching jobs or work for ACORN. So working for the Democratic Party is next best thing. er...I mean journalism.
