I'd have to hear a bit more from before the carefully trimmed quote to hear which flaw Obama was referring to, otherwise, it would be impossible for any person to understand what exactly is meant.

If Obama has a "secret plan" to change the constitution, at least he's keeping it secret, unlike the current administration. -

Amazing! This is the second video that lasts less than 30 seconds. It's easy to change the context and meaning of the message when you use sound bites. Obviously, he said what is being played, but what exactly is the message? Here again we have a bunch of scared right wingers grasping at straws in attempt to divert from real issues.
BTW - The Constitution was written 300 years ago by men who had to compromise their religious, philosophical, and political views. Of course there would be some flaws. Unless you think the Constitution is the equivalent to the Bible?! (That statement is for you Neocon faithful that equate the Constitution to a "religious" proclamation).
Next...saying there are "flaws" within the Constitution is a hellava lot better than GW's claim that it's a goddamn piece of paper! -

If the People did get scared from W's preemptive strikes, Patriot Act, economic policy leading to the financial melt down, trade policy and torture, Obama is a cake walk. McCain being a Republican, he will want to do as bad as 'W' and heaven help us if Palin inherits the Top Executive and CinC position.

Just give it a rest, like we are that concerned about the nation, the Constitution when we would not challenge the voter irregularities in 2000 and 2004.

When you get sworn in as President you put your hand on the Bible and swear you will uphold the Constitution. Will Obama have to like about that ... or does he have a secret plan to fundamentally change the constitution. Scary stuff.

This tripe reflects nothing. There was obviously a more entailed discussion that has been omitted, so you can't tell what 'the' funamental flaw is that Obama was addressing. Taking things out of context is typical dirty CON politics. And guess what. Americans are sick of it.

You can HEAR Obama, in his OWN voice, say what he calls a "FLAW" at either Yahoo or AOL news; this morning's editions, 27OCT08. Will that suffice? Somehow I doubt it. There were those who pshaw-ed Hitler's "Mien Kampf" too. He wasn't KIDDING about his published plans. But history can teach nothing to FOOLS. "This time", they tell themselves, "it will be different." This IS NOT to equate Sen.Obama with the Nazis, this is to show that some people will DENY no matter what the evidence. WAKE UP! -

If I were to sport a guess, I suspect he was referring to the Constitution's original legitimization of slavery and commenting that the consequences of that legitimization are continuing to this day. Like Jordan11 and earthlingerer I'd like to hear more of the context the statement occurs in.
Reply
You'll notice he did say that the constitution is a remarkable document and he respects it. I also notice that the usual suspects are immediately eating up this as an "Obama wants to overthrow the constitution" conspiracy, without asking what he was actually saying. -

Um, you do realize there was a constitutional amendment concerning slavery, the right to vote, forbidding discrimination based on race, national origin etc...? If there was a "flaw" it has long since been corrected. The country "changed" a long time ago, and but for the constant resurrection of the "slavery card", that change would have been sufficient.

On paper, by subsequent generations. And yet, subsequent generations of bigots hold true to the belief that black Americans are 'inferior', and had that been addressed from the git, might never have been set down from generation to generation. On the other hand, addressing it then may have caused such a rucus among the colonists, many wouldn't have joined the cause for THEIR freedom.
Of course from the perspective of a black man, given the treatment of the black race over the centuries, it's an honest view that not addressing it then was a flaw.

Obama explained his statement in the other tape circulating on the other thread. As explained here: http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=YmFhYzIzMGQ1Y...

"And uh, to that extent, as radical as I think people tried to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn’t that radical. It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution — at least as it’s been interpreted, and [the] Warren Court interpreted it in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties: [it] says what the states can’t do to you, says what the federal government can’t do to you, but it doesn’t say what the federal government or the state government must do on your behalf."
The United States of America — five percent of the world’s population — leads the world economically, militarily, scientifically, and culturally — and by a spectacular margin. Any one of these achievements, taken alone, would be cause for enormous pride. To dominate as we do in all four arenas has no historical precedent. That we have achieved so much in so many areas is due — due entirely — to the structure of our society as outlined in the Constitution of the United States.
The entire purpose of the Constitution was to limit government. That limitation of powers is what has unlocked in America the vast human potential available in any population.-

"...many of the attitudes...are still around in some parts of the population..." Last I heard, couldnt legislate someone's attitude! As long as there are people around, where-ever in the world, some will have good and some will have bad attitude. The only way to rid a country of people with "bad attitudes" is to do what Stalin, Hitler, Hussein, Pol Pot, etc...tried to do---and even that ultimately fails as long as the good ole USA with its bad attitude in upholding the Constitution, continues to do just that.

As best I can figure, this is really all about the "Gimmes". The schools are never good enough, their neighborhoods are never good enough, Liberia wasn't good enough, King-Drew Hospital in Watts wasn't good enough. Why is it that nearly ANY OTHER ethnic group can be given what the blacks were given and MAKE A SUCCESS OF IT? Sound Racist? I don't really give a fig anymore, and if the FACTS sound "RACIST", that's too bad. There's is NO WAY one can have a MEANINGFUL dialogue if one can't mention the elephant in the living room. All one will ever hear from this segment of our population is what's wrong: ANYTHING and EVEYTHING BUT THEIR GROUP. LOOK IN THE MIRROR, DAMMIT! Slavery, yes it was most horrendous...BUT IT IS OVER---GET OVER IT and get off of your collective keisters and DO SOMETHING like every other ethnic group in this country---the greatest country on earth! There, I've said it, now ADDRESS IT. Oh I see; screw the facts, LET'S GET THE MESSANGER CAUSE WE DON'T WANT TO DEAL WITH THE REALITY! You, my Black Brothers and Sisters have the answer...YOU ARE THE ANSWER... GET TO WORK ON IT and don't look for false messiahs like THE ONE! This country WAS NOT built on GIMME! -

Come on, our founding fathers never intended us to look at the constitution blindly. To accept it as imutable. We are not talking about the Bible. We are talking about a document written by mortal, human beings capable of error. It is a fool that follows something blindly. It provides provisions to change it. Do you think our founding fathers did that so that it was never meant to change? Our founding fathers were radical, revolutionary, daring and they loved this country. I believe you can question the Constitution and be a patriot. American's were never meant to settle for the average. We are to push for the best. If that means finding flaws and fixing them, so be it. What are you people afraid of? I am a smart individual, voted republican (ALOT), but I just don't get the fear. American's were never meant to sit still and just ignore societies troubles. Something to your core feels threatened. I wish I knew what it was.

It is fundamentally flawed. It was written by slave owners who wanted to be free.

If it wasn't fundamentally flawed we would not need admendments. While it is fundamentally flawed, it is still the best "piece of paper" ever written.
I think the Constitution is great even though it has it's flaws. Everything else man created is flawed, why not the Constitution?

Context is ambiguous, also this video that keeps getting linked to about it is on youtube and disallows comments, which says a lot about the whole thing.
Reply
The federal reserve was a mistake, Ron Paul declares that clearly, but that certainly wasn't intentioned by the founding fathers. Thomas Jefferson expressed quite clearly how dangerous the banks are, so I doubt he means that.
Obama could mean the electoral college, that's certainly garbage. But perhaps that's wishful thinking on my part.
I'm glad he plans on doing something for social security though, there's really nothing more patriotic then something Thomas Paine came up with and it's helped many people, we don't need someone like Reagen (McBushe's Hero) coming in and raping it again.
But as for slavery, I don't know he could mean that, like I said too ambiguous, no one should be satisfied without hearing what flaw he's talking about, for the sake of honesty to themselves.
Anyway people let me end this post by pointing out something obvious, if the constitution "written by men" is flawless than why did we need amendments? Sounds like some sort of idol worship to me.
At least Obama sounds a little different from the usual trash we get, eg. Bush. -

By the way, I have a feeling that a lot of you Obama haters are Christian fundamentalist, as am I, however, I believe in the true fundamentals of Christianity, not hate.
Jesus gave us all a FREE gift. One that we DID NOT deserve. As good as you think that you are, the bible says that we are not good enough. There is none righteous - no not one. He says what we earn for our sin is death, but Jesus gives us grace - Life that we DO NOT earn.
My question to you is. If a Holy God can have mercy on you - save your miserable souls from hell, then why can't you have mercy on others.
Its quite sad. You think poverty and dispair cannot happen to you. I used to think like that too, then life happened to me, buddy, and it can happen to you.
If you were to be in poverty and tried as you might to get your things in order, but just couldn't - Obama might not sound too bad. Pride comes before th fall - be careful.
I say this from experience.

Obama wants the Supreme Court to stop defending the part that says what the government CANNOT do to the people (think King George) and wants the Court to tell the Government what it Must do.
Reply
As as example of on one of his plans:
"Obama proposes to achieve almost universal service for the nation’s 17 million college students by offering a refundable annual tax credit of $4,000 toward college tuition. This program should cost about $65-100 billion a year, perhaps more if it substantially increases the number of students attending college.
In return for the credit, college students will be required to perform 100 hours of community service every year for four years.
By offering college students a hefty $40 an hour, Mr. Obama will ensure that nearly every college student will participate in his program,
without actually making their service mandatory."
Notice that last phrase:
Just give money to college students so that they will vote for him, under to direction of the Supreme Court, but with no personal responsibility.
