Obama: Affinity to Marxists Dates Back to College Days »

Barack Obama laughs off charges of socialism. Joe Biden scoffs at references to Marxism. Both men shrug off accusations of liberalism.
But Obama himself acknowledges that he was drawn ...

But Obama himself acknowledges that he was drawn to socialists and even Marxists as a college student. He continued to associate with Marxists later in life, even choosing to launch his political career in the living room of a self-described Marxist, William Ayers, in 1995, when Obama was 34.
Obama's affinity for Marxists began when he attended Occidental College in Los Angeles.
"To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully," the Democratic presidential candidate wrote in his memoir, "Dreams From My Father." "The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists."-

Obama's interest in leftist politics continued after he transferred to Columbia University in New York. He lived on Manhattan's Upper East Side, venturing to the East Village for what he called "the socialist conferences I sometimes attended at Cooper Union."

This seems to provide an explanation of how Obama wound up so close to the domestic terrorist Ayers. I've always been wondering how that happened.

This, if it really is true, indicates Obama was seeking out radicals for his support group.

Cls - no question is dumb- This will give you a very rough idea. Basically, the state (government) owns everything because that is the only way everyone can have the same share,- but there are volumes on the subject with a lot of variations.

Marxism is the political philosophy and practice derived from the work of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. . . .the basic difference between Communism in general and Marxism, is that Communism aims at the realization of a " Communist society", while Marxism is a theoretical-practical framework based on the analysis of "the conflicts between the powerful and the subjugated".
the transition to socialism could occur within existing bourgeois parliamentarian frameworks, and communists, who argued that the transition to a socialist society required a revolution and the dissolution of the capitalist state.
The following countries had governments at some point in the twentieth century who at least nominally adhered to Marxism: Albania, Afghanistan, Angola, Benin, Bulgaria, Chile, China, Republic of Congo, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Ethiopia, Grenada, Hungary, Laos, Moldova, Mongolia, Mozambique, Nepal, Nicaragua, North Korea, Poland, Romania, Russia, the USSR and its republics, South Yemen, Yugoslavia, Venezuela, Vietnam.
In addition, the Indian states of Kerala and West Bengal have had Marxist governments. Some of these governments such as in Venezuela, Nicaragua, Chile, Moldova and parts of India have been democratic in nature and maintained regular multiparty elections, while most governments claiming to be Marxist in nature have established one-party governments. -

Gotta choose your friends carefully, and Obama was very very careful as he stated in his memoir - none of those pesky Republicans qualify.

Just good old radical communists, and foreign citizens. Nothin' unusual there. Move on everyone. Not a story anymore.-

I agree 100%, it's a non-issue. Everyone should just ignore the background of anyone who wants to be president. One's friends and philosophy are totally and completely irrelevant to the question of how you would rule the country as president. Just get over it Republicans! NOT

Shame shame shame on whoever posted this communistic drivel. NOT

I should've more seriously addressed Goppy, thank you Klarissa. Actually, I thought the question was sarcastic, so appreciated the equally sarcastic responses.

In an age when the Cold War against Communism still was ongoing, and most except the most radical avoided communist associations, Obama was seeking them out.
Reply
Can someone explain why that would not be considered hardcore radical?
Thanks. -

Healthcare costs in this country have skyrocketed so much that few of us can afford a hip replacement let alone a heart transplant. Yet I constantly read demands that the government provide universal healthcare. Well, if Euclid was correct that the whole is equal to the sum of its parts, then it's hard to see how we as a society can possibly provide that which we as individuals cannot afford.

For me, Marxism is best summed up by the famous shibboleth, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs." Overlooking the fact that while abilities are limited, needs are endless, Marxists opt for a system in which the satisfaction of all needs is guaranteed; and confusing rights with privileges, they suffer from the delusion that all such rights can be granted without any loss of personal freedom. Well, I'll tell you, comrade, it just ain't so.

wrong. borrowing from klarissa's wiki c & p above which klarissa didn't actually read.......

"Marxism is a theoretical-practical framework based on the analysis of "the conflicts between the powerful and the subjugated"."
i could simplify it as class-struggle but that's a hackneyed term that makes dimbulb eyeballs glaze over. so to put it in simple, easily digestible words...... it's about looking closely at the relationship between the haves and the have nots, trying to understand what made it that way and then trying to find a solution that is fair to all. scary stuff huh? -

The Marxist philosophy embraced by Obama is very important to understanding his inclinations and goals for American society.
Reply
Historically Americans have rejected and fought against Marxism because inevitably it leads to a loss of personal freedoms and economic collapse. That has been the end result of Marxism wherever it has been embraced.
This explains why the U.S. is now re-evaluating its fascination with the unknown quantity of Barack Obama. What was once unknown is now becoming known and a lot of people are surprised. -

bush on the other hand was able to achieve both the loss of personal freedoms and economic collapse completely without the aid of marxism. and that will be historical.
which leads to the mind boggling consideration that it is just possible that it is not marxism that leads to the loss of personal freedoms and economic collapse..... [the crows hushes].....
but other factors, such as totalitarianism and mismanagement for example....
yeah, i know pretty far-fetched huh?

Um...instead of attacking Obama, maybe if you would actually PROMOTE McCain, he might not be such a long shot. If he and his advisors had spent half of their time actually trying to make him and the nutcase less distasteful instead of spending ALL of their time attacking Obama (as you people LUV to do) he might not be in such dire circumstances.

Obscenely rich capitalists stoke the marxist fires whenever they feel their grip on America's wealth slipping away. It's the bogeyman that the filty rich uses to turn the rest of the populace on one another and divert the real problem of unequal distribution of wealth to the haves from the have nots. Socialism, communism, marxism are the buzz words used to tell the sheep that other sheep are trying to steal their pasture while the wealthy wolves are eating their young. You cons don't know real marxism from democracy, only what someone else told you to think.
