I'm not crazy about Joe Biden, but I'm more concerned about the possibility of Sarah Palin becoming president because McCain is 72 and has had four bouts of cancer. I think choosing her as a running mate was the worst decision McCain has made in this campaign.

There are those in the Republican party who wanted to see a culture war this election and have been mostly disappointed, it will be interesting to watch who comes out on top of what's left of the Republican party after this election. Those pushing for a culture war or those pushing for more moderate measures. For the culture warriors, Palin has become their poster child.
Reply
I have a feeling people who thought this election got nasty will be looking back on 2008 as warm and fuzzy moment, when the 2012 election rolls around.-

I'm disappointed that you attack a person because of her religion. I went through the article and didn't see how her religion affects her position as a Vice President.
Reply
On the other hand, Obama came from a "Black Liberation Theology" religion, he's a Presidential candidate, and holds many fairly radical views.
I you want to discuss Palin's religion, I'll debate you. (I'm sort of bored, right now and I'm sure you want something to attack).-

Calling Palin a poster child for culture warriors is an attack? I suspect Palin would be flattered by my comment and people like Rush Limbaugh would agree with it.
Reply
Personally I think politics and religion are like oil and water, they don't mix., but as you point out, America has heard about Obama's religious choices, (Martin Luthar King was a Black Liberation Theologist too), so it's only fair to bring up Palin's. In the furture maybe we can dedicate one or two Presidential debates to candidates explaining to us how their god can beat up their opponent's god.-

Uh, lets see, i.e. John Kennedy was likely scrutinized more for his Catholic faith than any other quality.

Put Palin's beliefs are stone age. That is unless the Assembly of God's biblically literal views are not her own. It's Jesus Camp type stuff. Raising little warriors for Christ. Then sending the legions forth for now if for nothing else than prosletizing to others. No Assembly of God member has ever held high national office that I know of?
But I don't see Palin as any type of Jesus figure. Someone to emulate. Did he supposedly go around bad mouthing his fellow man and rendering judgement from the stump? Ok, so the Rambo Jesus these people believe in does kick*ss!And he whipped the moneychangers didn't he? But instead McCain/Palin want to give the moneychangers a whopping tax break! And a multitude of Christians will vote for this. They see a 5% additional tax put on the 5% of the wealthiest and consider it socialism. And I don't seem to recall that type of condemnation of those who think differently? And I also don't think Jesus would ever rumble onto the stage with "Redneck (Wo)Man" as a theme song as I saw the other night. How inclusive! I know a lot of redneck women but I don't want any of them running the country.
The thought of her as my Vice President doesn't make me angry because what can I do if this is what my fellow Americans choose? It just makes me sad to see how liitle we expect anymore. I can her it now, "Hey look Cletus, McCain died, now the weathergirl from Wasilla is President"! Would make me feel like the guy in the painting "The Scream". Four years of this? I can't even imagine!
But that's not even what truly what scares me about this woman. She has not a shred of intellectualism in her. And that is considered an asset these days? Her beliefs are but one symptom. Obama (unless you blindly hate him) is an actual thinker. But that is considered a negative somehow? He's considered sinister and calculating. Mediocre intelligence and simple mindedness are now somehow in vogue again. But didn't we learn a da*n thing from the last 8 years? Hasn't America suffered enough? We'll see on Tuesday.

The fact that Palin thinks Christ is going to return to earth in her lifetime makes her a dangerous wacko.
There is nothing to debate, when it comes to religion. Religion is nothing more than a naive belief system that attempts to validate superstition.-

I'm sorry you feel that way.
But I can understand it, when you see people who claim to be for what God wants.
Do evil things for their own self gain, while hurting those who are seeking to find the answer.
It is not easy to see what is the Truth is. For even satan takes part of what God says and then twists in his own values trying dillute and make less the True lessons of God
It seems many people blame God for all that is wrong, yet give Him no credit for what is good.
Religion is mans way to try and make himself Holy in the absense of living Gods' way.
And yes some of them are superstitions. Personally I have never understood praying to a piece of stone or metal. Yet some do it with the belief that they are communicating with God.
God is so immense this world cannot contain Him, nor our minfd fully comprehend Him.
That is why some have problems understanding, because they are limited to believing in what they see. Or understanding what is so much more vast and intelligent than they are. -

I agree... especially if the Dems come to control the executive and legislative branches this year. If that comes to pass, put your head between your legs and kiss the economy totally good-bye. Barack, Barney and Chris have kicked off the first leg of the downward spiral with their housing redistribution schemes. A redistribution president and a redistribution congress will put the nails in the coffin. This country is going to have more than a culture war on its hands in 2012.-

If Obama fails to deliver than a culture war won't be needed for Reps to win back the White House, a guy like Romney could do it. However, IF Obama manages to keep people happy for the most part, the only hope Reps will have is to run the type of campaign Limbaugh and Hannity have been calling for this cycle.
Reply
Redistribution has been the word coming from McCain lately, but can you name a tax that doesn't redistribute wealth? I wasn't aware that McCain was going to eliminate all taxes, funny how he signed that bill redistributing $700 billion dollars worth of wealth, since that's something he's against.-

Is that even a word?? Another word the cons have pulled out of their 'scare the hell out of them' play book is ..socialist. The hypocrisy of this accusation is just astounding. How can the neocons define spreading the wealth as some sort of evil when we have been doing it since this country was founded. The first time someone came up with the idea of taxing a resource to fund a common need you had the basic concept of spreading money (wealth). Just saw a couple of clips of Palin making speeches accusing Obama of favoring this 'crime' when just a few months ago she was bragging of doing the exact same thing in Alaska. She was actually PROUD to say how she was taking oil company wealth and spreading it among Alaskan citizens who did nothing to earn it.

Nope. McCain just realized calling Obama a "distributor" of wealth sounded like nonsense, so his neocon lobbyist handlers made up a new word to fool the masses.

Socialism 1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods2 a: a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b: a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state3: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done

I don't see that the state of Alaska owns the means of production. Neither does Alaska own the means to distribute the petroleum. I believe the oil companies are the ones producing and distributing. The state of Alaska owns certain mineral rights and gets paid for them.

She took the oil company profits and instead of investing them in the projects for her state that needed money she gave them back to the people and then asked the US Government for money from the lower 48 to pay for her pet projects. How is that not redistributing the wealth?-

Your guys had already broken the system through Fanny and Freddie. That $700 bill is to keep it from going down the tubes. Now you want to layer further disincentives to work and invest on top of that... plus throw in protectionism so the U.S. economy doesn't need to compete. You are creating a mess the dangers of which you have no clue.

Those that brought up Rev. Wright opened the door for this, though to be fair we have been examining the religion of candidates before this election cycle. That's a mistake in my opinion, nobody's religion can stand up to being put under the media spotlight. Religion, like sausage, is easier to swallow when not examined too closely.

Palin's Assembly of God faith has ministries like Exodus (or - as I like to call it - homo no mo ministries) which work to convert gays to straights (we all know how that works out). They are also fervent last days nuts who would love nothing better than for Palin to usher in Armageddon. She is a dangerous woman.
Reply
Now some on my right may think that my view of her is overblown, but I don't think so. And it is the truth.
My hope is that cooler heads in the Republican Party will prevail. I hope that they would return to the core message of fiscal responsibility (a message that is more than just about tax cuts). I hope they reject the religious nutcase wing of the party....
I'm not holding my breath. The religious right has been courted by the Republicans since Jerry Falwell darkened the doors of Reagan's Oval Office in the 1980s. They will not give up their influence easily. They might nominate Palin, blaming the 2008 loss on John McCain muddling her message (yes, she does have a diva complex...)
In a weird way, I hope the Republicans DO nominate her in 2012. She will lose again, and the party will stay in the wilderness...until they realize that "divide and conquer" is NOT a strategy that will work with the American people anymore... -
