Kind of hard for us to get over it when some of us have parents who experienced violent racism.

  Even in the 1960s, Condi Rice's father and other neighbors sat at the entrance to their cul-de-sac with guns because the police weren't going to help them against violent racists.
  
  Violence against women also is a very serious issue that a lot of people don't realize is quite common--or don't care.

    I'm familiar with some of the rape and domestic violence statistics, but I I haven't heard of women being lynched.
