All My Trials »

This Spadecaller music video presents Joan Baez's classic folk tune with visuals that reference the events of Katrina, Darfur, and Iraq. During the social protest movements of the 1950s and 1960s "All My Trials" became a popular folk song . It is based on a Bahamian lullaby about a mother on her death bed, comforting her children, "Hush little baby, don't you cry. You know your mama's bound to die," because, as she explains, "All my trials, Lord, Soon be over." The underlying message - this too shall pass; that no matter how bleak the situation seemed, the struggle would "soon be over" - lifted this song to the status of an anthem and was recorded by many of the leading artists of the era.

    LYRICS:

Hush little baby, don't you cry
You know your mama was born to die
All my trials, Lord, soon be over

The river of Jordan is muddy and cold
Well it chills the body but not the soul
All my trials, Lord, soon be over

I've got a little book with pages three
    And every page spells liberty
All my trials, Lord, soon be over

    Too late, my brothers
    Too late, but never mind
All my trials, Lord, soon be over

If living were a thing that money could buy
Then the rich would live and the poor would die
All my trials, Lord, soon be over

There grows a tree in Paradise
And the pilgrims call it the Tree of Life
All my trials, Lord, soon be over

    Too late, my brothers
    Too late, but never mind
All my trials, Lord, soon be over
All my trials, Lord, soon be over

          Very Well done my friend.

The flag folded as it folded to be presented to the survivors of a veteran, knocked me to my knees. I've seen that scene to many times.

As well as the soldier scooping up the child, lost in a war they didn't ask or or don't understand.

Yeah if life was all about money the rich would live forever, well they will just not the way they think.

Spadecaller. A beautiful haunting refrain. People caught up in trials that they didn't seek and have no ability to stop. Some things we all go thru as individuals and some things as society.

            Thanks you spadecaller.

For a reality check, see the videos below. The USA's enemies are drooling at the thought of Obama. They love the naive inexperience weak amateur. Where there have been young leaders in the past, they had over a decade of (real)experience, yet we paid a price for it. When John Kennedy(who had over a decade of rel experience both military and political) took over from Eisenhower, the Russians built the Berlin Wall, the Bay of Pigs attack failed, the Russians sent missiles to Cuba, and Kennedy put troops in Viet Nam. This is what our enemies do when they see an amateur take over the White House. Joe Biden warned us that Obama will be "tested". I dread the next attack.

                    Lovely, poignant.

And may the people who feel the need to insert negativity into the commentary find a way to get some rest and look at the world around them with kinder eyes.
