My wife made me canvass for Obama; here's what I learned »
Posted By MyWayOnNow 1 year ago in FamilyThere has been a lot of speculation that Barack Obama might win the election due to his better "ground game" and superior campaign organization. This election is not about major policies. It's about hope.

This is a very beautiful story. I was on my way to posting it.

The single most poignant and moving personal account of one intelligent and sceptical individual's "Road to Tarsus" experience - and I use that Christian image because this is a genuinely Christian story - not only because its published in the CSM.-

It's 'the road to Damascus' I think you are thinking about.
Tarsus is where Jonah was trying to get to, when he was swallowed by a whale.
HA! I have crushed you with my superior sunday school lessons!
HA!
But of course it is wrong of me to brag. I am just glad I could straighten that out in all humility.

My sincere apologies to any of my friends to whom I didn't get a heads-up.

I did the best that I could, in a random manner, and certainly wasn't discriminating against anybody.
In the middle of a 48hr sleepless work stint I just did what I could and hoped that others would find it.
The new propeller doesn't facilitate this process either..
It is one of the most enlightening stories that I have enjoyed on propeller and I'm very happy that many others enjoyed it too. -

If I had found a story written the other way round - i.e. that someone of the democratic persuasion had been persuaded to canvas in a republican neighbourhood and been well received I'd have posted it.
Barriers between classes and groups and races are a loss to everybody, but as people get squeezed financially or socially they tend to have less emotional space to encompass "otherness". -

What's truly incredible is that Obama has been able to build the record breaking ground operation as a newcomer on the Presidential Politics scene. He built it so quickly it even overwhelmed the machine the Clintons had in place for Hillary's coronation. For a guy who is criticized for being too inexperienced for a top management slot, he has outdistanced some of the most seasoned pols on both sides of the isle. That's proof of management ability, folks.

I voted for Reagan, Bush's father, but I never voted for Goerge W. Bush. He never impressed me as a genuine person interested in helping Americans. In fact, I think he purposefully hurt this country and broke laws and possibly has committed high crimes.
I voted for Clinton both times. I believe he was a great president. He left office with a 300 billion surplus. It was a happier time since people did not live in fear, or feel the president was violating our laws. -

Great post. I almost didn't read it. I thought it would be more of the usual anti-Obama stuff.

My background is very similar to the author. I'm a recovering republican who voted for Obama. He's the first Democrat I have voted for President in the past 30 years. -

This is the truth about Obama and why he is right for this country, not the tripe that is reaching the top of the page now. I truly hope that tomorrow we win big. I hope we stomp them into the dirt. Tomorrow should be the Republicans day of reckoning and I hope they receive it in full force. It is so richly deserved.

"I've learned that this election is about the heart of America. It's about the young people who are losing hope and the old people who have been forgotten. It's about those who have worked all their lives and never fully realized the promise of America, but see that promise for their grandchildren in Barack Obama. The poor see a chance, when they often have few. I saw hope in the eyes and faces in those doorways."
Nothing here has any substance. It is the "Hope and Change" of Obama's speeches. Hope for what and change to what. Pretty words with little meaning. That has been a big pat of my problem with Obama from the beginning.

His taxes are going to go up and he wants us out of Iraq and Afghanistan because he buys into the meme that we are not wanted there any more.

What will happen when the poor realize that they will not rise, but that all will fall under Obama and a Dem super-majority? Will they be able live on the satisfaction that all are miserable?
How many bright faces of hope will there be when U.S. withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan creates the vacuum into which Iranian expansionism and Wahabbist zealotry will pour... sparking the next world war?
The sweetness of false economic hope and foreign policy as a schoolgirlish popularity contest had best be tasted quickly for it will then just as quickly devolve into a depth of bitterness beyond your imagination. -

Didn't you get the memo, Truthfirst? Obama, the "transformational figure", IS the new Jesus.

Remember Jesus' admonition, "Render unto Caesar...."
In this age of convenience, they have become packaged as one and the same. No longer will one need, nor have anything left, to render separately. -
