Comments for Voting With Emotion Rather Than Intellect »
Posted By Nixie 1 year ago in NewsAsk a person why he/she is voting for Barack Obama and you will inevitably hear a response that begins with, “ Because I feel…” It actually made me sick listening to Sean Hannity’s "Man on the Street " radio segment last night. He asked a number of random (mostly college-aged) people who they were voting for and why. Everyone I heard said Obama. Every reason they gave was a ridiculous reason to vote for a candidate.

"Some of the greatest leaders the United States has ever known were terrible, completely uninspiring speakers. Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln are just two that would fall into that category. Yet, according to many Obama-supporters, Obama’s ability to inspire and his talk of hope and change seems to be his biggest qualification for being our next president. What about experience? What about leadership ability? What about fundamental, American principle?"

Nixie - If you think about the last election of Bush, his entire campaign was built on the emotions of fear and paranoia. Fear of WMD's, fear of terrorism, fear of infiltrators into our society, fear of Muslims in general. The Republicans portrayed themselves as the only politicians who could defeat the forces of terrorism.
Reply
McCain, too has played on fear, though not as blatantly. He says Obama is not ready to be president. Unspoken is the part where McCain hints that Obama is not ready to take on the terrorists.
McCain and Palin keep alluding to an association of Obama with Jeremiah Wright and to Bill Ayers. Again, there is a play to fear Obama because he may secretly be a Muslim, or a radical leftist and adopt Black, radical policies guided by Ayers and by Wright. Then there is the charge of Obama being a socialist or communist, that he will take away wealth and transfer it to the poor. The poor are just a faceless mass of money-thirsty zombies who will suck up all that cash and turn normal white folks into poor folks.
Of course there is a great deal of emotion in any election. Who isn't afraid of losing your house or becoming more dependent on oil from Muslim countries?
But think about it. The emotion that Obama inspires most is hope. Maybe an undefined, incoherent hope for many of the poor and those who have lost their homes. Maybe they can not clearly verbalize what they are hoping for. But isn't hope a better emotion to evoke to inspire a vote instead of fear?
I myself have read the policies of both candidates about health care, tax plans, foreign policies, military plans for Iraq and Afghanistan. I have listened to all 4 national debates.
I have watched the demeanor and behavior of the 3 men and one woman thru the months of campaigning and their responses to the mortgage and credit collapse.
I have watched the anger and racism that McCain and Palin arouse. I have watched the young folks of our country become inspired by Obama and how they now rouse themselves to participate in the glorious responsibility of voting
Obama clearly is the better candidate for this historical juncture and for this generation.
Please read both websites about all their policies and a variety of editorial analyses and opinions of both candidates. Obama does say a lot of substantive matter. You must educate yourself on both sides. I have.-

Which ones? When he promised to take federal funding and then backing out of his "promise"?
Reply
How about his promise to bring people together. If he continues on this path and wins, I see a repeat of history. I see a great division. They're following a playbook written by the likes of Lenin, Stalin, Mussolini and Hitler. He has most of the press, after the fairness doctrine ends talk radio, his party will control all of the media. His party will hold the House, Senate and the White House. We've seen what happens when they control a state like Wisconsin or Michigan. Now it will be the whole nation. Jobs will go away as businesses are taxed to death. Like the NKVD, Gestapo, SS, SA or KGB, he's promised to create a civilian security force equal to our military. For what? Gun collections? Who would control them? The "Party" bosses? The more I'm hearing the more it reminds me of the stories of Austria in 1938. A part of my family left only days before the Anschluss. We supported the Engelbert Dollfuss. Not a good thing when he was opposed to Hitler. As I was saying, this is exactly how they started. First winning, then the taxes, restrictions, and security. You guys always claimed Bush was the bad guy. I think we're seeing an iron curtain being drawn in our own nation.

McCain is not ready to be President. He's an angry old man with poor judgment. Why did he challenge his party and vote with Bush 90% of the time? Good question, I'm thinking it was probably because everyone else had enough sense to know Bush was flushing us down the commode and McCain didn't. Look at his choice of running mate? Not a very "bright" choice.

Most who plan to vote for Obama will say they're voting for him because he will bring change.
Reply
The problem I have with that so called "change" is that Obama has never really said what that change will be. He says crap like...He will raise taxes only on people who make over $250,000 per year, then he say's $200,000 then it was 175,000. The last I heard it was $120,000. I say if Obama is elected we ALL will pay more in taxes. Anyway, the bottom line is that Obama is full of CRAP. He has pulled the wool over many peoples eyes!-

if its a tax break at 200 for single and 250 for jointly (meaning their income is listed as one income) how is that a penalty? with two incomes the total should be larger, therefor by increasing the ceiling of those included in the tax break for the couples, he is benefiting marriage not punishing it.

Not really. 2 married people working in comparable professions making about the same salary, just say $200,000. One of them starts paying higher taxes at $50,000, not $200,000 even if they file separately because they both itemize. One reason for that could be if one of them owned a business as sole proprietor, and Obamas talking gross, not net.

GehlLady - It was Mccain and Palin who were aiming their propoganda at rich and middle class whites to make them fear the poor.
Reply
Obama was trying dispel the racism and prejudice by encouraging everyone to disregard the differences in his external appearance. It was McCain and Palin and the neocons who keep saying that Obama is different, that he has a muslim name, that he is a follower of Wright, that he is not a citizen, that he is actually a kenyan citizen. It was McCain and Palin who were playing on the subconscious racism and fears. Obama was mentioning it to dispel it.-

Perhaps, but there were charges of the 'race card' being pulled between Clintons and Obamas campaign before the general election. I feel it was inevitable it would be an issue in the process of this election, and I fervently hope it can now be put away.
Reply
Since you mentioned Rev. Wright, I do feel he was fair game due to Obamas words, that he was a mentor, and all the accolades Obama gave him early in his campaign. I felt John McCain showed much class in taking the issue off the table because, imho, it was too racially tinged to be examined without the true racists and lunatics becoming the issue instead of the other radical statements made by Rev. Wright, ie 9/11 and HIV.

The Lincoln comparison is interesting on another level as well. He and Obama were both from Illinois. Both were heavily criticized by their opposition for being too inexperienced for the job. Yet Lincoln is regarded by most historians as being one of the greatest of American Presidents. Like one to include on Mt. Rushmore good.

Now you want real government experience, let's look at some of the top contenders. Dick Cheney you would certainly be familiar with. You may not recognize the name of James Buchanan, Jr. He was president just before Lincoln. He had an enormous resume that included legislative and top executive branch experience. Far better a resume than John McCain, by the way. Yet he is on just about every American Historian's short list for worst presidents ever.
Although it looks like Dubya will ensure that he isn't ever accorded the bottom spot.

McCain backed Bush on abandonig Afghanistan and invading Iraq. McCain has consistently voted against funding for green energy research. He decided to launch all these negative attack ads. He precipitously decided to suspend his campaign and fly to Washington whenn all the experts and the senators already working on the financial collapse told him not to come. He became more of a distraction than a help. McCain decided precipitously to pick Sarah Palin as his running mate. Palin is probably the most unprepared VP candidate in the history of our Republic.

"Two weeks ago, Palin’s campaign told several reporters traveling with the campaign that a summary of the governor’s medical history would be made public before election day.
Reporters were told that details on Palin’s medical background would be released early last week. Last Thursday, after that timeframe had passed, a campaign aide backed off the previous pledge, saying the campaign wasn’t sure when the information would be released.
John McCain, Barack Obama and Joseph Biden have all provided details about their medical history"

Rose, Wolfie, K9, Klarissa & GLee... I am neither extreme left nor right, but if I had to choose, I would move as far away from you all as possible. Re-read your posts... you sound like a bunch of psychos sputtering out ridiculous nonsense and assumptions.
Reply
I've said it before and I'll say it again, there's not one good choice in this election. Picking what you perceive is the better choice does nothing but perpetuate the problem. NEITHER candidate is fit for the Presidency and everyone knows it. Then again, neither was GW or Clinton. The majority of politcians in Washington today should be thrown out! In fact, if you think about it, when was the last GREAT President?
I'm fairly young (which automatically means I'm an idiot to the extreme right), so I can't say I even remember one. Between Bush Sr., Clinton and GW, it's laughable! Well, all I can say is hopefully Obama is going to bring the kind of change people think he's going to be bringing. We'll just have to wait and see, won't we?
It will then be VERY interesting to see how each side responds. It's doubtful that you extremist cons will acknowledge your error, if it turns out that way. The hardest thing for most people to do is admit they were wrong. Same thing goes on the opposite end of the partisan scale. The mark of an advanced, intelligent being is their capability to realize their own faults and to adapt accordingly. (JMHO)-

I've got a question for you. This is hypothetical at this point, but since the lawsuit is going up to the Supreme Court at this point.
If it turns out that Obama isn't a natural born US citizen, or, isn't a legal US citizen, should he not be allowed to be President, even if he wins the election?
Also, totally agree with you about not having a good choice in the election. I don't really like or agree with McCain but i don't like and disagree with Obama even more.-

Considering its been PROVEN that he IS a legal citizen (the State of Hawaii has officially verified his legal citizenship just this past Friday confirming the legitimacy of his birth certificate), will you ever admit that such accusations are futile? And further, will you ever accept him if he wins and support his authority as the legally elected President?

Here is a link to today's PM article covering the verification of Obama's birth certificate once and for all.
Reply
http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/11/03/o...
From the article:
Well, on Friday, the Director of Hawaii's Department of Health, Dr. Chimoye Fukino, finally got tired of listening to ridiculous chorus coming from McCain/Palin supporters and he went to personally inspect the original birth certificate.
Fukino said she and the registrar of vital statistics, Alvin Onaka, have personally verified that the health department holds Obama's original birth certificate.
"Therefore, I as Director for the State of Hawai'i, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawai'i State Department of Health has Sen. Obama's original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures, Fukino said.
Fukino said that no state official, including Gov. Linda Lingle, ever instructed that Obama's certificate be handled differently from any other.
So........are YOU willing to admit your (and others') obsession with this subject has finally hit the brick wall? Will YOU support Obama, if not as President, at least as a NATURAL BORN AMERICAN CITIZEN or will you continue to find SOMETHING, anything to tear him down with...even if that anything is pure fabrication (like this lie about his birthright)????-

corl641 year ago
This comment is below the standard viewing threshold View It »
The birth certificate is real, that's not the question. Obamas mother applied for the birth certificate four days after he was born. That is where the problem begins. Hawaii can only verify that it is a real birth certificate, they have no way of explaining why the delay of four days, or the fact that there are no staff or hospital records from the day he was born.
Reply
"anything to tear him down with"
This is going to go on for the duration of his presidency. He is the wrong man for the job. He scammed his way into every political position he has held. Now, he's worked his scam ways into being POTUS. You'll se in four years, the same people that have hailed him, as a saviour will be trying to get him out of office.

Well, IF it turned out he WASN'T a natural born citizen, the he should NOT be allowed to be President. However, it has been confirmed that his birth certificate from Hawaii is legitimate. No more debate here... he has the right, like every other natural born citizen, to run for the Presidency. Like I said before, I just really hope the change he's talking about is the kind everyone is looking for... ya know, the good stuff. LOL. I'm sitting tight and watching the show... it's quite funny at times.

Just to add some semblance pf balance--IMHO FDR was great--he held the country together even when his progressive policies didn't really work. Took WWII to really end the Depression. JFK was middling to above--the above was due to how he motivated people, not so much as because of what he actually accomplished. Clinton -- middling at best. A great politician in the perjorative sense. Can't believe that you don't include Teddy Roosevelt as one of the best of the 20th century.

if you want to play the party game, Lyndon Johnson gives Nixon a good run for the worst of the 20th century. No matter what his intentions were with the Great Society, he remains the only president we've rejected in the middle of a war. His decision to try to fund his domestic program and VietNam at the same time was almost singularly irresponsible; it set the stage for the whole inflationary spiral of the 1970's. -

Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the creation of an egalitarian society.[1][2]
Modern socialism originated in the late nineteenth-century working class political movement. Karl Marx posited that socialism would be achieved via class struggle and a proletarian revolution which represents the transitional stage between capitalism and communism.
Some socialists advocate complete nationalization of the means of production, distribution, and exchange; while others advocate state control of capital within the framework of a market economy.
Anarcho-syndicalists, Luxemburgists (such as those in the Socialist Party USA) and some elements of the United States New Left favor decentralized collective ownership in the form of cooperatives or workers' councils.-

Calling people greedy and self serving because they want to keep the money they earn is so totally ignorant.
What is sad for you pboc is that Obama's socialism just like all socialism will put everyone but the politically favored few into poverty and slavery. -

The Second Bill of Rights was a proposal made by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt during his State of the Union Address on January 11, 1944 to suggest that the nation had come to recognize, and should now implement, a second bill of rights. Roosevelt did not argue for any change to the United States Constitution.
So, when you said (above):
"...FDR, he wanted to replace the Bill of Rights with a new Bill of Rights.."
were you mistaken or lying?

Articles like this are such trash.....the same thing could be said for the vast majority of McCain/Palin voters...especially the wagon jumpers who support Palin. They like her because she makes them "feel" comfortable that someone "like them" is running for office. Just like those who love Joe the Plumber...he makes them "feel" important because he's "just like them". People like Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber make people "feel" good because they are proof positive that even morons have a chance at celebrity in this great country of ours.
Reply
But I'll tell you....I have solid reasons why I voted for Obama, and NONE of them have anything to do with how he makes me "feel"..just like I'm not voting against McCain/Palin because of how they make me "feel" either. Why did Obama get my vote? I'm wagering its for the same reason damn near every other THINKING American supports him.....he's got a measurable IQ and, when tested (already with the financial crisis) he PASSED by not losing his head and flying off the handle. He's proven to have the judgment necessary to lead us through these difficult times (from being right on Iraq to commonsense approaches to what ails us most today) and his opponent has proven the opposite (from his hither, thither, and yon policy positions throughout his entire campaign to his choice to appoint an unvetted "vagina" as his VP as soon as the "vagina" running on the democrat side was defeated - like ANYONE with a "vagina" would replace Hilary Clinton and garner the female vote, proving how little he thinks of every woman/vagina out there).
For me, there is no comparison between the two candidates. One who thinks and one who has yet to prove the capability of thinking. And all the right-wing slime machine publications won't change the fact that MY reason for voting Obama is shared by the vast majority. Claims to the contrary only prove the desperation of the losing right has reached panic mode.-

Excellent post. You hit the nail on the head. Republicans never use "logic". If they did, then George W. Bush would have never had a chance at the Office of the President.
Reply
There is not one "logical" ad from the Republican Party. All of their ads are on how horrible the country would be if Obama is President. They never say anything about how well-off the country would be if McCain is President. The reason is because the Republicans know deep down inside that Obama is a much better choice for the Country then McCain. McCain is only a better choice for the Republicans. McCain's "Country First" mantra is such a pathetic lie.
If Repblicans had any logic McCain would have been the GOP nominee in 2000 not Bush. But we all know that Republicans never use logic.

Anybody consider that if you rersearch the history of the great Depression 40% may lose their jobs with Obama. The lesson you should learn so that you won't repeat the same mistake is that the Depression started with a recession but President Hoover raised taxes on the rich and it turned to depression which took a long time to bounce back.PLEASE CONSIDER THIS PROBABILITY because we are in the same situation now with Obama,Pelosi and Reid ready to increase all taxes starting with rich and trickling down to the middle class.

Oh it took a World War for the depression to end. Let me fill you in on a little secret. It took a World War to start the depression. Yeah imagine that. If Germany paid back all of the money, to France, England and the U.S., it was supposed to after WWI then the US.. never would have went into a depression.

Lets see we have an unjust war costing us $10 Billion a month for 5 years. Lets add that up. $10 Billion X 12 X 5 = $600 Billion dollars. How much was that bailout? Around $750 Billion. Do you see my point. When you needlessly spend money on a stupid manufactured war, Iraq, then you don't have any funds left to use where and when it is needed.
Let me make it easier for you to understand. If you have a $100 a month and you spend $98 food a month then you are only left with $2 to spend on everything else you need, like a mortgage/rent, utilities and such..-

Jefferson & Lincoln were NOT uninspiring speakers. As for voting with emotion any one with Logic can see why the Republicans must go. Their present policies began with Reagan who followed the Calvin Coolidge dogma of never allowing the government to regulate business. Those policies brought us the Savings & Loan Crisis of the '80's (Subprime's Little Brother) and the real estate crash and rescession of 1990. They also brought us leveraged buy-outs, junk bonds, Michael Milkin, Charles Keating Carl Icahn, Frank Lorenzo and other corporate thugs of the '80's. We had some respite under Clinton who was not perfect. After the 94 elections, he "republicanized" himself to keep power, even parroting some of their slogans. He continued some Reaganite policies like signing the repeal of Glass-Stiegel and authorizing Derivatives. Then came Dubya. These policies bring us to where we are today. It became clear to me after the S debacle in 1989, the Republicans were liars on everything and just no damn good. The Republican ideology belongs on the Ash-heap of history. Enough! Throw all of those bums out!!

To those who would at this very late stage of the “game” raise the “emotional issue” of Obama’s comments about “spreading the wealth”, I must point out to you the HYPOCRISY of your position:
Reply
What is the "beef" involved saying something HYPOTHETICAL to Joe the Plumber about "spreading the wealth around"?? Does no one bother to think about the ACTUAL REALITY of how the wealth HAS ALREADY BEEN "spread around” by “our” CURRENT political crowd (of which the erstwhile Sen. McCain has been 90% a part!)??
There is a whole lot LESS "wealth" to "spread around" now that Bush and the Crackpot Cabal of NeoConMen have worked their "magic" for the last seven years. What REALLY needs to happen is that folks now need to get busy actually GENERATING SOME MORE OF THE STUFF! But REAL wealth this time, not make-work, make-believe activity conjuring up "money" that does not actually correlate with REAL WORLD GOODS AND SERVICES that are actually USABLE by REAL PEOPLE!
That is going to mean something along the lines of a NATIONAL MOBILIZATION TO RECONSTITUTE THE ENERGY DIET OF THIS WHOLE SOCIETY, so that “we” quit "redistributing" our wealth OFF TO THE OIL "SHEIKHS" (Arab and otherwise) of the world!
It is more than a little bit amusing to watch the crowd who have CRASHED our economy now pretending to have suddenly "gotten religion", and trying to pass off a TEN PERCENT MAVERICK as a "stalking horse" in order to hang on to their "control". If people actually FALL for THAT ploy, then they are SURELY fools, and all hope for this nation is GONE! -

democrats vote for fear or mccain. republicans vote for fear of obama. it's all fear and duality. people don't get that we're all on the same team. so we vote for people we actually don't even like.
Reply
i say voting for either of these two-major party candidates is aiding and abetting. it's criminal negligence. that's right folks. we're all accessories in the two-party crime.-

voting for them? I disagree. Donating to them? Absolutely, that's aiding and abetting.

The 2 mainstream candidates get "public funding" if the want it, they get hours upon days upon weeks upon months of free coverage in the media. They get their exclusive televised debates.
While third-party candidates get the shaft.
They are excluded from the debates. They have extra hurdles to overcome to get on the ballot. They are completely ignored by MSM, to the point where Joe the Plumber has had more air-time this year than Ralph Nader, Bob Barr, or any of the nearly a dozen OTHER unheard of political candidates.
You can't really blame people for not voting for someone they've not heard anything about... but to continue to give money to those who have the most??? Seems a little unbalancing to me. If I were American I'd be calling my local papers and TV stations and asking them when they were going to do their jobs, as IMPARTIAL ADVOCATES FOR THE TRUTH and cover the platforms and policies of the third-party candidates.-

Couldn't agree more Will! It's way past time for a third party to become viable! Rep. and Dem. are way too complacent and comfortable with their minions. They are far too esconced in their respective bureaucracies to actually worry about bettering America!! I pray for the sake of our country that we can shake it up some. Too late for this election!!!

As far as reasons to vote. I would vote for Obama, because I think he IS the change that the country needs. I like his platform. I like his policies. I'm not afraid of his association to Wright, I'm not afraid of his association to Ayers... hell, I'd probably associate with them. I wouldn't condemn a man for his actions 40 years ago, and I wouldn't leave a Church because I disagree with some of what the pastor says: I ALWAYS disagree with some of what the pastor says. If you agree with anyone all of the time, you should seriously wonder if it's YOU or THEM that's refusing to admit your true opinions.

Guess you never asked me. I'll give you three good reasons why I'm voting for Obama rather than McCain.
1) I don't want to see the Supreme Court packed with more ideologues like Scalia.
2) Obama has committed his office to seeking a Manhattan/Apollo type project for energy alternatives to fossil fuel.
3) I believe he will actually seek to expand medical coverage for Americans while trying to reduce costs. I don't believe McCain will. -

Nixie, this is trash, really.

You should know, if you don't, that we don't easily compartmentalize feeling and intellect (let's call it). How we think about people has an emotional component and how we feel about them has its measure of reason.
People can be underinformed, ignorant or just plain stupid about their choices, but you can't hack these up into thinking and feeling, as if the two were mutually exclusive.
So the premise of the article, or your interpretation of it, is faulty.
I'm putting aside the ridiculousness of posting this as if it were somehow a judgement on Obama or on those who support him. -

I'm a 53 year old WASP. I'm voting for the first time in my life this year. Why??!! I'm so sick of the last eight years under Bush, I can, and will, scream!!!
Reply
What has Bush done, beneficially, for us during his Presidency? What have the Republicans done?? Let's see, they have, 1) Done everything in their power, even if it meant going against the CONSTITUTION & BILL OF RIGHTS, to wage war against Iraq, invade every American's home through ILLEGAL wiretaps, etc., and condone and endorse torture of prisoners (Remember WWII & Vietnam). 2) Done everything in their power, even if it means going against previous legislation, to wage war against our planet ecologically, without whom we would perish, and may still. 3) Given every Corporation, Ammunitions manufacturer, and Christian fundamentalist fanatic group, the endorsement of the United States government, and the money of EVERY citizen, while ignoring the needs and rights of everyday Americans.
I'm voting for Obama because:
1. He's a Democrat. (Republicans need to make a party decision to make an honest, concerted effort to connect with "real" Americans. Those with an intellect, under the age of 70, and those who make less than $150,000/yr. know what I'm saying!)
2. He's coherent. (McCain & Co. couldn't bring themselves to choose a Vice Presidential candidate that would be a viable President, in the ALL TOO LIKELY event of a life threatening medical issue facing McCain. Instead, they choose a candidate that would hopefully swing a majority of H. Clinton supporters to their camp.)
3. He is being attacked by every "Hate Group" in our country, and you have been all too helpful in identifying yourselves on this blogsight (Is that a correct phrase? I have never replied to one of these blog things.)
4. I make $30,000/yr., and my wife is currently unemployed, but our financial plight does NOTHING to dissuade our commitment to see Obama in the White House.
I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN CALIFORNIA, AND MY WIFE WAS BORN IN IRAN, AND MOVED HERE IN 1977. WE ARE BOTH DIEHARD AMERICANS, WHO BELIEVE IN EVERYTHING THIS COUNTRY "ONCE" STOOD FOR. EQUALITY, AND EQUAL RIGHTS FOR EVERY AMERICAN. GOVERNMENT OF, FOR AND BY THE PEOPLE (A PHRASE FORGOTTEN IN THE LAST EIGHT YEARS). MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE, AN ELECTION THAT IS DRIVEN BY INTELLIGENCE, LOVE OF OUR FELLOW AMERICANS AND...
A DESIRE, NO, A NEED, TO BE RECOGNIZED BY THE REST OF THE WORLD, AS A COUNTRY THAT CAN AND WILL LEAD THE WORLD IN "LOVE OF THEIR FELLOW MAN", AND EVERYTHING THAT PHRASE ENTAILS.
Please, all you hatemongers out their, send me your vitriol and vehemence, but spare it from the voting polls!! -

Rev. Chapter 13
Reply
This will make you re-think: A Trivia question in Sunday School:
How long is the beast allowed to have authority in Revelations?
Revelations Chapter 13 tells us it is 42 months, and you know what that is. Almost a four-year term of a Presidency. All I can say is 'Lord, Have mercy on us!'
According to The Book of Revelations the anti-Christ is:
The anti-Christ will be a man, in his 40's, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal...the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, will destroy everything..
Do we recognize this description??
I STRONGLY URGE each one of you to post this as many times as you can! Each opportunity that you have to send it to a friend or media outlet.. do it!
I refuse to take a chance on this unknown candidate who came out of nowhere. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Dr. John Tisdale
Dear Friends, As I was listening to a news program last night, I watched in horror as Barack Obama made the statement with pride. . 'We are no longer a Christian nation; we are now a nation of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, . . .' As with so many other statements I've heard him (and his wife) make, I never thought I'd see the day that I'd hear something like that from a presidential candidate in this nation. To think our forefathers fought and died for the right for our nation to be a Christian nation--and to have this man say with pride that we are no longer that. How far this nation has come from what our founding fathers intended it to be. I hope that each of you will do what I'm doing now--send your concerns, written simply and sincerely, to the Christians on your email list. With God's help, and He is still in control of this nation and all else, we can show this man and the world in November that we are, indeed, still a Christian nation! Please pray for our nation!-

I'd like to know where in revelations it says that since Islam didn't exist when revelations was written (handed down, or whatever you believe),
>>To think our forefathers fought and died for the right for our nation to be a Christian nation...
our forefathers did not fight for a christian nation. the first amendment proves that. the diaries and letters of jefferson and adams proves that. simple logic proves that. . -

“Voting With Emotion Rather Than Intellect”
Reply
I have a close friend who voted for the current administration twice.
He is a black minister, and the issues that guided his hand where Gay marriage and abortion.
Personally I think both those issues should be out of the jurisdiction of the federal government.
But for those that want the feds in the bedroom, I ask: what did you get?
Have there been less gay marriages?
Have there been fewer abortions? -

McCain supporters are actually ridiculing Obama supporters for "feeling" that Obama is the best choice as president?
Reply
Demographically, McCain supporters are predominantly Christian. Religious experiences have no basis in logic, they are largely emotional and based entirely on "feeling"...feeling that God is present in the church, feeling that Jesus loves them, and so forth.
Interesting that "feeling" a "truth" is acceptable when one is experiencing the emotion personally in a religious setting, but it's irrelevant and invalid when it's someone who has a different political view.-

Actually, the fanatical Christophobe zealots who comprise so many of Obama's supporters are beyond the reach of logic. It's interesting that religious based morality is not a legitimate basis for voting but opposition to faith, pursued with religious fanatacism, is a valid motivation for voting.

Do you have any evidence that proves beyond any reasonable doubt that that "so many of Obama's supporters" are beyond the reach of logic?
Reply
And who said that religious based morality is not a legitimate basis for voting? You were responding to my post, and I didn't say anything like that. I did, however, point out the fact that religious types think it's OK to base their spiritual beliefs on a "feeling", but that apparently, that same process is not OK when it's someone of a different political bent. Methinks you just created a straw man...typical tactic from someone who has no rational rebuttal. 8(

One of the reasons McCain will lose, and lose big tomorrow is because so many of you on the right don't have a clue at to why so many are voting for Obama.
Reply
I'll make it simple: George W. Bush.
Now you may be saying, Bush isn't running, McCain is! That's irrelevant to the average voter. This will be a referendum on the republican party and it's support of one of the worst presidents in our lifetimes, if not ever. Where was the dissent from the republican ranks when Bush did one boneheaded thing after another? Why is it that massive amounts of spin are needed to justify the things Bush has done?
Go ahead and blame the media, stupid democrats, America haters, ex-real estate partners, and so on. Your petty bickerings will ensure that the republican party will become more and more irrelevant until it vanishes from the landscape altogether. -

Ok...your wife has a high risk pregnancy, and your son or daughters potential life hangs in the balance. You have two choices for attending physician..one, a bright, good looking young medical school grad who has never practiced medicine before but has some "great ideas" about high risk pregnancy...the other, a scruffy looking, ill tempered doctor with 40 years of experience in labor and delivery...which doctor do you choose? The country is just as ill, and at the end of the day, I have to go with the resume and tomorrow vote for John McCain

I have been in this country for 25 years and became a naturalized citizen since 2004. I believe this country is wonderful, I will never burn, step, or destroy the American flag in any way, yet I recall the first time I felt when I saw a protester, in the great city of New York do this to an American flag. I began wondering why it was, this person had such hatred towards such a great country, then I realized, they probably never lived anywhere else. Americans don't know how lucky they are to live here. In this election, all I hear is how bad the leadership in this country has been, but frankly I don't see it. Bush kept his country safe. The economy is bad, yes, but, face it, you have freedoms, people like me only dream to see. Love your country and embrace it. Be proud and know that you would not be here in the first place if it weren't for men like John McCain.

This is not news! This is some wingnut wacko spouting some ill-informed opinion. What he pretends not to understand is that most people say "feel" when they mean "think," yet he doesn't notice or care when it comes from a fellow regressive. Americans don't know how to say what they mean, especially when they're in front of a camera or microphone.

Obama is a Socialist!
Reply
What metric should I use other than history?
If I tag and compare spending it looks like this:
Outlay Data from the White House:
Payment Where Earned Income Credit Exceeds Liability for Tax: 2000 = $26 B 2008 = $39.4 B
Payment Where Child Credit Exceeds Liability for Tax: 2000 = $.08 B 2008 = $16.3 B
Refunding Internal Revenue Collections, Interest: 2000 = $2.7 B 2005 = $6.1 B
Private Collection Agent Program: 2000 = $0 2008 = $12 M
Unemployment Trust Fund: 2000 = $20.7 B 2003 = $54.6 B
Grants to States for Medicaid: 2000 =$118 B 2008 = $204 B
Food Stamp Program: 2000 = $14.7 B 2008 = $34 B
Medicare Prescription Drug Account, Federal Supplementary Insurance Trust Fund: 2000 = $0 2007 = $49 B
I could go on and on…. and every budget Item That I tag with a socialist concept, has spent on average a great deal more than %100 than what was spent before the current administration came to power.
I try to look at crap pragmatically.
I am a dumb uneducated carpenter, but it is the law that I can look at this stuff.
It ticks me off that so much is hidden, but the hidden stuff is not social spending.
